and i'm sure he enjoys the product also
tom, you really shouldn't feel this way,
one of my hobbies is restoring mucsle cars
some of the higher demand vendors (trim restorers,componant rebuilders) put lead times as much as 2,3 years for thier services, they are in very high demand.
you should throw a lead of 2-3,4,5 months and if it takes longer too bad
you should take your damm time and take away the pressure you feel
and not get burnt out from it.
my only other suggestion would be to hands on train someone and spread out some of the load.

In related news, Purple Days units will be available on our site later on this week (yay!). They are going to go fast though. If you miss the initial window, look for another batch to go on sale next week.

Oh, and in regards to the "secret day" -- I've given some people estimates of when we'll have the units, but these are estimates always and I'm usually off by at least a day or two. So your best bet is to check the page on our site regularly and be patient. We know being patient isn't always tons of fun, but what else can you do? It'll be that much better when you finally get yours.

This is the kind of problem that is good have when your Tom, congrats. A mere bump in the road to progress as they say.

On the dyeing - isn't there a vegetable dye that is safe to use? Obviously, the upkeep of the wood is #1, but there must be a good natural solution. How about a fireproof cylindrical jacket cover?

Hey, I think it all boils down to how it went down bummed a few of us out. Changing things and changing them again is a little frustrating. You can hear the chorus of us w/out PDs lining up to pay for a spot in line.

KP, I would fight you for the last turboman doll before xmas if we are talking PDs in real life here. I'm glad they'll be another season of EBAD w/you in it. That first season was awesome, especially the last one w/April.

On a related note, it is because of my wife that I didn't get one off the site a long time ago. She made me promise to hold off on buying until we knew if she got tenure or not. She did get tenure (and promotion) but not until last Thursday. Yes, you guessed it, the PD color questions are an attempt to 'blend-in' w/her color prefs too.

Right now, the 'E' has a nice dish of green tea in it. Really though, I expect it's holding a place for another vape.

I have tried a couple of non-toxic stain options. The only thing I found that was near what I wanted was mixing some of Pammy's old dried up watercolors (labaled nont-toxic of course) with our Buzz-Butter finish. Very light woods like Maple or White Ash are absolutely bland without some sort of stain to bring out the contrast of the grain.

My Ash unit has this stain. It highlighted the grain, but is in no way 'dark'. Dark stain requires a lot of pigment and penetration.

I just haven't found anything in a natural, non-toxic stain that will give a Black Walnut or Mahogany look to a light colored wood. Since Walnut has a bit of odor it was rejected as a PD wood species. Mahogany is not a sustainable wood species, has been over- harvested and is not so pleasant to work with, another reject. Gotta consider we only use sustainable North American Hardwoods. The choices are also limited by wood density, grain structure, workability etc.

The other problem I see is... What color of 'Dark' would you like, sir? Haha, just joking, but you may see the point. With 6-8 shades of oak stain in the hardware aisle, getting someone's idea of the perfect color might be another challenge.

Pammy was talking with her buddy at the frame shop and was given a packet of 'dark' pigment for making stain. Nice of the lady to give it to her, but when the label was read, I didn't even want this toxic stuff in the house and asked Pammy to return it.

So, it's not like we just dismissed the staining idea. We have looked. Nothing has been found.

Sorry, but the PD was all about making a non-toxic product. It's also about us working in a safe, non toxic environment. Using as sustainable and environmentally friendly resources as possible. Remember this was a dining table operation, literally. It's not a factory with an MSDS book as thick as...

"fireproof cylindrical jacket cover?", asks Duh. What did you have in mind? That can be worked on a dining table and is safe, non-toxic, durable and has the right thermal insulation values and electrical non-conductivity. Not trying to be funny, but the choices seem limited.

On changing then changing again. It was sorta like a flood. You try moving to higher ground (the 1st and 15th scenario). but when the water keeps rising you can't just sit and drown. You gotta find even higher ground.

As pointed out before when we said 7-10 biz days wait the demand went up. When we increased the lead time to 10- 12 biz days the demand went up. When we shut down sales the e-mail flood started. When we announced the 'higher ground' 1st and 15th plan, things started to go crazy. People even started offering extra money for a spot ahead of others. No way. Something had to be changed, Higher Ground Plan 2.

It's been mentioned that I was ready to quit. I like building the PDs and seeing them go into the world. But the business end of it... well it became too much and wasn't what I wanted to do in the first place. Already having a small retirement income and modest lifestyle, I was this close to going back into retirement.

I want to keep making PDs. It's fun, mostly. But changes had to come. They come to everything.

One last time, on lead times and waiting lists. While certain folks can justify 2-3 year lead times as Gak Hater mentions, bear in mind that those artists are dealing with tens of thousands of dollars and contracts and a project that the future owner has a real stake in (his dream car etc.). The PD on the other hand is a $180 internet purchase. And we are dealing with a bit different crowd than the auto or art collector.

Somebody has to drive the bus. I'm it. This is the route we are taking.

Edit: We are including a double size sample of Buzz-Butter in our larger one ounce tin for a limited time (about 80 units). We are discontinueing the 1oz. Buzz-Butter and thought a little extra in a few kits might be nice.

What ever you do, dont make Tom stop the bus and come back there ,

Hello to all in the PD family (as well as all wishing to adopt or just curious )!

It looks like the thread has reached (and blown past) its 100 post marker (thank goodness for the search feature ).

I won't ramble on about how much I agree that Tom, Pammy, and the PD are great, however, I do feel badly about the difficulty Tom seems to be experiencing balancing his interest in being accommodating and the need to set clear/reasonable limits .

I, therefore wanted to contribute my :
First off, I am glad that VAPENOW.COM has begun to make a presence here and has been striving to make some predictable and organized system of ordering the Purple Days. I hope that VAPENOW.COM directs forum questions about availability through VAPENOW.COM's (already established) sales channels, and enable this transition to be quick and smooth allowing the dynamic duo to have the clear (yet cloudy) heads it requires to consistently produce the vaporizers that continue to grow more and more popular (for reasons that many already know first-hand)--and many more will know thanks, in part, to VAPENOW.COM . Well...I hope that everyone begins to realize that coming here to vent does not really help you get a PD (unless you have not yet been directed to VAPENOW.COM ).

Also, for the DYNAMIC DUO, I humbly suggest the possibility of increasing the price of the PD by a small increment each batch until demand decreases enough to get 'reasonably close' to supply (this would allow you to continue to find/buy buy better equipment/components, discount units for some customers if desired, offer specials when stock builds, and most importantly have more control over the demands placed on yourself

PD tip for Iolite (formerly I-Inhale) owners:
The moisture condenser of the Iolite fits nicely into the stem of the PD for easy cleaning (and works well in the PD with oils in place of a bed of herbs if careful ).

I hope all in the family (including the couple birthing our little wooden children out in Oregon) are well ; all interested in adopting a PD are taken care of (if they are willing to wait through the adoption process ), and all just reading are enjoying (thanks for reading and not just posting repetitive nonsense that lengthens the thread unnecessarily ).

Take it easy all (and, as always, toke it easy!).

edit: Stickstones, it is pretty simple (you push the sticky metal moisture condenser out of the Iolite mouthpiece into the tip of the PD and draw hot air from the PD past the sticky moisture condenser until it is clean). Please elaborate in your post if you still have a question.

We've thought about an email list, but I'm not sure it will have a big effect. Everyone will want to get on the list instead of just checking the site and then there will be a huge rush when the email goes out.

Now that things are set up with Tom we're going to have a steady supply of PDs moving forward so this situation will be much improved over the next week or two.

lol.....I set some bud on top of a heater set to 70 degrees about a month ago, and the same thing happend to me. I live in an apartment. I went out for a run, came back in about an hour, and OMFG !! I was lucky that the DEA along with the local SWAT team wasn't camped out waiting for me to come home.

Shoot I'll do you one better I actually have a little routine that is perfect. I get about a weeks ready at a time and grind it in the space case. I then open the spacecase and turn the PD upside down and rest it right in the spacecase on top of the ground material. It is a perfect fit I think they are made for each other. I usually tilt the PD to one side to leave a little air gap for condensation to escape. I then let it sit for about an hour or so and then run it through the cheapo plastic grinder to get a finer chop. Then back into the SC and PD back on top until dry to taste. Little system works perfect for me. If you anyone else has a SC give it a shot. I got the idea from someone earlier in the thread who mentioned doing this with the billy bowl. Speaking of which are you still going to be selling them Tom? Was planning on picking on up eventually.

will the resistor inside ever get hot enough to cumbust? i spanked my pd today, and i found 2 rather large flakes that were completely white and gray.... not sure how long they have been in there, but i dont think that long, and i thought the resistor only got to the set temp and leveled off?

I think Tom and Pam did the right thing. It is far better to wait a couple of weeks than have Tom and Pam go through burn out and close the doors. Good luck to you both. but I have one question, how do I get more buzz butter ? Vape now or thru Tom and Pammy?

You can burn food on the stove even at the low heat setting if it sits there long enough, but I doubt any plant material would actually ignite in the vape, even sitting down there on the resistor.

Although I've yet to have the pleasure of experiencing Buzz-Butter or PD, I frequently use another beeswax product that sounds similar. Obenauf's heavy duty leather protectant is, perhaps, the most amazing stuff I have ever used. It smells great and completely rejuvenates and waterproofs leather and wood...and my hands. It's made in Idaho. You can get a whole gallon for $150 if you'd like your house to smell like an apiary.
