Hello FC!

I've been lurking for about a week now and thought I'd ask a few questions about MJ/vaporization that I've had on my mind for a while now. Who better to help me out than you knowledgable folk! Note: I wrote this pretty quickly and just let my thoughts flow off my mind. I apologize for poor spelling/grammar.

Quick Background:
First off I had been smoking MJ a couple times a week for a few months, started to feel a difference in my lung capacity (I workout a lot), bought a cheap vaporizer off ebay (it works for me + im poor) and began using MJ more often. I vapid daily for about a month but for the past week I haven't touched the stuff (my dealers out of town).

Anyways now to the questions:

1) I currently have this vaporizer: http://cgi.ebay.com/Herbal-Vaporizer-Digital-Vaporizer-Free-Whip-VP100W-/310260660403. It works pretty well for me, but I was interested to see if you guys had any good suggestions for a cheap vape, possibly one thats portable. Keep in mind the most important things to me are that its cheap and healthy (ive heard bad things about vales that use butane).

2) I love MJ. It makes me feel positive, creative, and relaxed. However I have noticed that my memory, (ESPECIALLY my short term) has gotten noticeably worse. What are your opinions on this? Is this a problem for you? Is there a way to make it less of a problem? I'm not really sure what to ask here. I guess I'd love to hear any information/experiences/thoughts/recommendations you have on the subject. I'm talking both short-term (when I'm high) and afterwards (to a lesser extent of course). I just find that sometimes I cant or it takes me longer to recall something than I believe it should. Not really what I would call a huge deal, and I have a bad memory to begin with, but it is noticeable.

3) Once when smoking my friends weed (of which he had very little left) I had one of the best highs. It was amazing because I had all the positive effects of MJ, yet my mind felt especially clear. I could transition between thoughts and not forget what I had just been thinking about. Hard to explain but my mind wasn't as "cloudy" as it normally was after MJ. I'm assuming this has to do w/ the strain of MJ? Do you know what I'm talking about? Once again I'd love to hear your thoughts!

4) I'm currently a student and need a clear mind when working on assignments. Any thoughts on this? I'm sure some of you are students, or have jobs that require a great deal of deep thinking. Maybe good times to smoke/ ways to balance the two? I think you get my drift. Any thoughts on this?

6) I mentioned I'm big into being healthy and active. When I'm working out or running I hate feeling like I've been hurting my lungs or body. I haven't had too much of a problem w/ this as long as I'm not smoking, but if I vape a large amount or for a long session I can tell a bit the next day. Maybe its just in my mind?

5) Any other thought you have? I really appreciate you taking the time to read/respond to my post. I enjoy Mj very much and would like to continue to use it in a beneficial manner. I'll probably vape anywhere from 3-7 times a week depending on my workload schedule.

PS) You guys are awesome and I enjoy reading all your discussions. :D

1) expensive is subjective. Any parameters? If you don't want butane fumes possibility I'd suggest, starting cheapest, and based upon what I have tried in portables; Lightbulb style, Vapbong, MFLB, Eclipse for concentrates, Vapman . Not tried the Vapocane (if you use a bong) or Lotus or Ubie. inhalator also, although gettng away from what i would call cheap. Likewise supreme. sure there's a few others I can't remember just now.

2) my memory sucks. Let me know the answer if you find it!

3) The phenotype of the plant (caused by a combination of the genotype (strain) and the growing environment) dictates the characteristics of the effects, coupled with your own mood and physiology.

4) For me the only solution is to abstain. My work and time management does suffer if I partake too much.

5) I seldom do high intensity excersize, so can't really comment on these effects, but I have noticed improvements since I stopped smoking. Much as I enjoy and promote vaping over smoking , it's not healthy to regularly breathe in quantities of anything except fresh air IMO (chronically, perhaps, rather than regularly, i dunno?). I think many might like to pretend otherwise, but generally the best inputs to our body are those that it has evolved to ingest. Lungs are for transferring the bodys required gasses, not psychoactive compounds (although we can cope with short term impurities- but not sure if a vaping lifestyle fits that label). I believe that all 'fun' from altering our body comes with some cost. It all a trade off. Life life or live long. Up to us each to decide on that balance.

6) If it works for you and you're happy, then enjoy it. Welcome to FC!

1.) Agree w/ Tyler. I find the best way to find a 'cheap vape' is to browse the forum until you figure out how cheap you really want to go. I hear time and time again on the forums to go for a MFLB. I have a vapor-genie which is half the price, but probably half as good as well . You can go cheaper... but things get more complicated and vaping is less enjoyable as a complex task in my opinion.

2.) Smoke less :o. I am a college student with a heavy science based curriculum as well and took about a year break to get back on track with my mind. Just remember everything is better in moderation :).

3.) Yes, but it can also be a personal experience as well.

4.) I can think of a few people who have great memory and smoke every day, but they also work hard and study while smoking. There are a few possibilities with this one but its all personal trial and error. You can always smoke at night to relax after a long day.

5.) It may be in your mind, as people biologically have different sensitivities to pain. Something that hurts your body may be ineffective to someone else. It's all about survival, and if you notice pain immediately you can go to the doctor and check it out, rather than someone who almost never feels pain. I am fairly sensitive myself, and it is hard to take big bong rips or large hits from a blunt. It just feels very unpleasant, which is why im starting to vape in the first place =].

6.) Sounds like a plan man! Enjoy yourself and dont take life too seriously ;).

Welcome to FC man!

1. for a portable vape i reccoment the mflb for herbs, and the eclipse for concentrates. mflb is super stealth. i walked downtown to the farmers market today and was hitting it whenever i pleased. it's is super stealth. the eclipse i would not use in public though lol looks like a crack pipe. :D the new arizer solo looks very promising, if you have 270 CDN to drop. :p

2. my short term memory is not so hot either. i write a lot of things down. :D
I think of it this way. I need to remember a lot of things, and there is a lot of "junk memory" too. you know, numbers, addresses and the like. as far as im concerned that type of stuff i don't need to worry about remembering, i will just try to focus on the more relevant info. practice memory games and exercises. "If we don't use it we lose it" repeating things three times is also a trick to remembering things.

3. It was probably just because it's a different strain to what you were used to. but ask him and inquire about getting more if it's the buzz you are after.

4. My thoughts on this as a recent college grad are: for some subjects mmj is a good thing, for others not so much. (physics, chemistry and math for me were no good when stoned) pretty much every other subject i took i found either had no effect, or actually was able to encourage creativity.

think dosage when you are on this subject. Maybe you don't need to be too baked before a certain lab or lecture?

i also never wrote exams while high. ( I cut myself off 1.5 h before any class i didn't think i could handle it with)

5. other thoughts:
consider starting a collection of herbs if you can. I love mixing it up from bowl to bowl, and it keeps you from building up a tolerance to any one strain. :)

6. I notice when i vape i immediately have a slight wheeze or contested feeling. but after 30min or so that is totally gone.

yesterday I went out for a hike and there was a long steep hill to climb. I was breathing very heavily when i got 75% of the way up. I also have/had asthma (i haven't used an inhaler in years though) anyways the point here is i was expecting to hear the familiar wheeze that comes with being a pot smoker. but to my surprise there was no wheeze, i was just out of breath. I was impressed! :)

When you vape you are still putting something into your lungs. looks at the beautiful honey that forms on your vape delivery line. way better for you than smoking? hell yes. good for you? well from a medical treatment point yes, but I can't honestly say I believe that it doesn't have some effect on our lungs. eating is another route if that risk is too much for you.

hope you like it here! it's my main forum i visit these days :p

Keep in mind the most important things to me are that its cheap and healthy (ive heard bad things about vales that use butane).
The vape you're using may be more unhealthy than a butane powered vape. Butane is perfectly safe as long as the equipment producing it is working properly. A lighter (or iolite) would have to be leaking butane from somewhere other than the designed exit point, in order to expose the user to inhaled butane. As long as you have flame (or the catalytic process in the iolite), no butane will escape it without being broken down into hydrogen and carbon. And with a torch lighter (or the iolite), even the carbon is eliminated.

The LB is the best deal going for a portable, but it is easy to get into the higher temp range, and you may like the lower range for a clearer mind and to take it easier on your lungs. To avoid high temps with the LB you just have to limit your battery connection time and go for effect, rather than big hits and a lot of visible vapor on exhale.

dude,
i am the owner of a da buddha, just got my lotus (clean air) vaporizer 2 days ago, and it is a fantastic portable vape. maybe you can check the lotus thread.

i haven't used all the vapes in the market (so my experience is limited) but the lotus has so many things that met my criteria. i wanted simple, portable and convenient to use with occasional stealth.

The Lotus uses butane torch but is enclosed, so you don't inhale any butane. it's got weight, is sturdy and feels like a premium product. just nice to hold and use. the magnetic top is so convenient to use (no screwing on/off) when you empty/refill the bowl and the 'stickiness' is good so except for a hard knock, it won't dislodge easily.

as a dbv owner, i use the dome screen mod when i want small hits but the lotus allows me to use even less herb, ridiculous! some people prefer taking big hits after big hits and continuing on, so maybe this vaporizer is not for them. the way it's built, i don't even have to cover the whole screen. and the bowl is small so you're 'forced' to use less herb, so don't expect to get da buddha sized hits but the lotus hits are really nice, and effective. and this is a vape that extracts quickly. basically a good 2-4 hitter per bowl (even 1 hit depends on your bowl load and pull technique), for one, maybe 2 people. and real easy to clean.

I like the overall 'pipe'ness of the Lotus and how when you hit it, it's not like breathing air; there's a smooth drag that makes it feel really 'pipish'. i didn't like battery usage cause i prefer torch use, so yeah, you gotta get quality filtered butane (otherwise the torch will 'jam' after awhile) but small expenditure i feel.

and maybe not stealthy like a mflb, but i vape in my house and only occasionally in public, like when i go to the cinema i'd just vape in the boys' room first, so no prob. If you wanna use the vape mostly in public, then maybe the mflb could work better. But for anyone looking for a fun, aesthetically pleasing, efficient & simple to use butane-based portable, the Lotus is a good choice.
