Hello from India!

I wanted to try a vaporizer. The Magic Flight Launch Box seemed to be getting fantastic reviews, so I contemplated getting one. But it costs a bomb ($40) to get it shipped from the US. Even if I do get it shipped (Don't mind paying), and it breaks - it's practically worthless as I can't really send it in for warranty here.

Even though there are other factors to consider - I decided to make my decision primarily on the durability and un-breakableness of the vape. From the few I looked at, the VaporGenie Aluminium Bat seemed to be the best.

If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

High there in India. Well, I have a vaporgenie aluminum bat, and the regular pipe style aluminum pipe. I use them both quite a bit, and I'd say the bat had more of a learning curve than the regular pipe style pipe, but once mastered, it works just as well. They are both great and as long as your not totaly abusive to them, they should pretty much last your whole life I would think. They give nice clean thick vapor if used with the right tecnique.

Albert,

Thanks for your response! I like the look of the Aluminium Bat better - so it's the one I'm most probably going to get.

Are there any other similar vapes with a smaller learning curve?

You should check out the lotus. It's another flame powered portable, which seems to be what you're after. I don't know how to provide a link for you, but there's a thread about it on here.

I'd recommend any of the log style vapes. They are incredibly durable. Go watch some of Tom from PD do some of his durability tests and you'll see what I mean.

A vapor genie is a good choice I think. It's portable and durable you don't have to worry about it breaking in shipment. And it's flame powered so you can vary the temp if you will be using any hashes. The bat is good, but I don't think you can use a mini-torch like you can with the pipe style. A torch lighter makes this vape much better. Something like this.

Any vape you buy can break. Any.

That having been said, I'll redirect you back to the Magic Flight Launch Box. Bought my first one March 8/10. Still works even though it was run over by a pickup truck (amazing that the plexiglass cover did not break) and has survived getting chewed on by my Cairn Terrier. Thought I lost it, so bought another one. Found the original and gave it to a relative.

It works. It has a lifetime warranty. It is very durable.

Wow, you're really tempting me to change my mind on the MFLB.

I'm pretty sure it's durable and a friend I spoke to had a similar experience. But I'm just scared that in the event that something goes wrong (there can even be the occasional manufacturing defect) - I'm gonna have to go back to smoking regular joints - something I don't look forward to.

I will probably get myself an MFLB or two a few months later, when I hopefully have a bit more money! Then I can use the VaporGenies as a backup.

I wish I could get a butane powered torch. Unfortunately, hardware items, DIY stuff, butane, lighter fluid, etc are all not found in India. We tried to build our own bong a while ago, but it became impossible to find even the simplest of materials :( We ultimately gave up. There simply isn't a market for hobbyist items in India, as people consider building and fixing things yourself to be ridiculously bad for your social stature.

That said, I'll keep an eye out for a torch lighter. Thank you.

Wow, those are pretty durable. Purple Days seem pretty awesome!

I'm most worried about the glass tubes (in the MFLB or otherwise) breaking. is there a place I can get a spare set of those?

Antileet, try dealextreme.com for cheap torch lighters with free worldwide shipping. Shipping to India shouldn't be a problem. (edit. duh!, just realised that was the link momatik provided)

I spent nearly 7 months in india in my late teens (i loved the place) and I can remember getting my lighters both serviced ( :o impressive reconditioning of cheap plastic lighters) and refilled with butane on the street for a few rupees by clever lighter wallahs. That was in the city though.

Wow! I didn't know their shipping policies are this good. I'm gonna get the lighters as well. Thanks for the tip!

Btw, where did you stay in India? just curious.

antileet,
Yeah, MFLB is a great choice if you have access to good NIMH batteries and only need to use herbal material. If concentrates are a big concern, and I imagine you may have access to some mindblowing ones being in India, then a VG classic or Handcarved or Aluminum are probably a great choice. All of them are quite durable, portable, and flame powered. The Lotus is also great for herbal and concentrates, gives a better hit than the VGs (cept glass), but is more expensive and a little less durable most likely I know you said butane is hard to find but it simply has to be available, it's essential for so many applications, just hunt it down. Flame powered vapes

Now that I think, a vaporstar might suit you. They're like 25-30 US plus shipping. It's made of walnut and stainless steel and is very tough. You could drill a hole in virtually anything and turn it into an impromptu vaporizer, or order a small piece with it, and power it with a lighter or jet torch.

Unforturnately, the PD doesn't ship outside of North America. The glass stem for the MF is an option. Acrylic is standard.

I like the Vaporstar. Very versatile. Vaporstar Dave certainly ships international too.

Glad to hear your picking up the torch. As charlie said, keep a lookout for butane-it has so many applications.

^Tips for using the vapor genie with the torch.

If you haven't done so already, be sure to ask vaporgenie to throw in a bunch of extra stuff (pipe cleaners, screens, wire coils) before shipping. They don't mind shipping free screens to genie users.
