Plastic that melts easily.

Where are the pics of melted Solos?

None have ever been posted.

When I posted I said I could provide pictures if anyone wanted to see.

You should contact Arizer as that is not normal.

I just opened my M103 and my M105 and both are not showing any signs of plastic melting since the plastic is not in contact with areas that get uncomfortably hot. I ran a couple of cycles with the cover off and feel very safe using my Solos.

Why on earth would the plastic melt at the contact point with the cool metal case? Are you pulling something here?

It was to show that the material would melt. The point of concern is where that plate and the hot part of the mica heater assembly come into close quarters, at the center underneath the mica heater assembly. My original post said that the bottom of the mica heater assembly gets hot enough to hurt the back of my finger, after running my Solo for about five minutes on a setting of 4 (m105). At this point the distance between the two pieces is less than 1/16". I said 1/8" before and I over estimated it. It is VERY close and get pretty hot.

So the melting shown in the pic, is what exactly?

Is this where you melted it yourself with a lighter?
or this is as a result of normal use?

Oh dear god, that girl has the most horrifying stare...

I think it's been pretty well established the solo has no means of melting itself without a little outside help.

I would not use the Solo as your main/party vape.

That is your personal preference, and is fine to share.

Kept to one twelve minute cycle. After a half hour to forty-five minutes it would probably safe to use again.

This is pure speculation to imply that the Solo is unsafe.

So, it is safe to have plastic exposed to temperatures that could at least cause off gassing in the air path? Yes you are probably right about the speculation. But I would also speculate that if I was hit by a car I would suffer some sort of injury.

The Solo has plastic in the air path. Plastic that melts easily. The "smell" everyone here is posting about comes from below this plastic. It is in the air path. You can either stick you head in the sand and pretend it is not so or take the appropriate precautions. The proof is in the hands of every Solo owner. Look for yourself.

You mean the smell that "everyone" here is posting about? It seems a small number experience problems; certainly not all have smell issues, or melting issues. It isn't "everyone". I have no "smell". I didn't have to bake anything. I did wipe with ISO when it arrived. No smells. No melting. Some airflow issues, but nothing major. I think if one reads the massive number of posts here the class of "everyone" is not very large at all.

MrNorml,

OK disagree with me, I can't force you to be right
Some motherfuck*r smashed in my car window this afternoon and stole my SS Solo :(
I was only away from the car for 15 minutes and parked in a public place...lots of foot and auto traffic. The Solo and two filled tubes was in its case under the seat. Other stuff got stolen too, but that was nothing compared to the loss of my beloved Solo.

Edit:
Mari, I only just saw the photoshopped in solo after looking at that pic about 5 times...

Frederick McGuire,
I got an M105 a few days ago, and so far I'm absolutely delighted. I find it a very convenient and civilized way to vape. There was a bit of a scent the first few cycles, but it went away quickly.

Big thanks to the forum for hooking me up with the way to turn off the beeps. I have a dog with noise phobias, and they were freaking him out.

I've got a question about fitting screens to the stems, though. I've looked through a bunch of pages in this thread, but I haven't found a good answer. The interior diameter of the stem is 7/16". The smallest stainless steel screens I could find are 1/2". Has anyone found a good way to cut them down or bend them in such a way that they will fit snugly in the stem?

Take the end of a sharpee marker and use that to mold a screen into a dome shape. It will now fit in the stem.

Yeah, 1/2" stems bent around a sharpie make for perfectly-domed screens.

Shit, Gonzo. I didn't realize the UD screens were 3/8". I assumed they were 1/2" (never measured). Those were the screens I was referring to that fit absolutely perfectly. I stand corrected. Well, I'm sitting because it's been a hard day and.... well, you get the point.

NP Stu, I make the dome shape and then place it upside down in the solo stem. Once in the stem I push down with the wooden dowel and the screen flattens out perfectly. Luckily I have more than one spare UD stem lying around.

Yeah, Dave sent me a shitload when I got a replacement power supply from him. He's generous that way. I don't press the dome down when I insert it, but rather leave it that way for better airflow IMO. Stays put very nicely.

I will have to try it. I always pressed it down so I could get the maximum load. Will give the dome a try, think I'll pack one now to try it out actually :D

Here's a pic of one I just did now (using one of Dave's UD screens). My friend's stem was filthy (he's never used screens.... what a pig) and I asked him if I could clean one and put a screen in. My next ISO evap will be all the more richer for it, and he gets a nice clean stem with a screen. ;)

The same blunt end of a Sharpie will also act as the "dowel" you mention to tamp down the screen just enough that it will stay in position when emptying. No need for a wooden dowel.

When the 1/2" screen is domed over the blunt Sharpie end the screen will drop all the way in the bowl , dome up, then compress.

I'm not sure how big te screens from planet vape measure, but I just got a few, and they are a bit small for my tastes.
They are just smaller than the ID of the stem without doming.
So they basically will just drop in and drop out very easily.
I like my cut down ssv screens that hold themselves in because they are that little bit bigger.

I've got some 0.5" screens coming soon, I hope they are a bit better.
If not, I guess I'll have to get some 3/8 screens.

Still no word back from my glassblower, hopefully I'll hear something from him soon...
I want my GonG Stems.

Aren't they lovely? My Arizer Solo and I met a few weeks ago, instantly married and the 'Honeymoon' just keeps on going.

I made a new one! Simple straight sides, the 'bowl' consists of a cone with a hole at the end, about 7mm wide and 4 mm deep. A bud of unground material is placed in the end. Despite the large hole, moist material is not pulled up.

[edit] The small size of the bowl makes this a 'two hitter'. The shallowness makes the conduction heat dominate, and the taste is closer to a mflb at my preferred higher temps. The pictures make these look better than they are. The annealing with my butane torch is hit and miss (need a kiln for that) and this broken-through hole is a bit too big - I havent figured out how to make small holes in a glass bowl yet :)

That's very cool mari.

Do you mind if I ask you if you have any glassblowing experience?
Or are you just kinda DIYing your homemade stems from those test tubes?

Had training to do some glass work with thin tubes but no 'glassblowing experience'
