Damn... I had forgotten about the hot chocolate that I meant to make with my dirty stems. Thanks for reminding me, Papa. I guess I need to dirty up some stems again to give it a whirl!

This is the best way i find to clean my stems, using full fat milk, gets it very clean and you get to have one of the best cups of milk you will ever taste. I am about to try it again this weekend while i paint the bathroom, should be a good day.

how do you know when your bud is cashed?

Does it still produce vapor when its not worth inhaling?

when it stops producing vapor.

The most common issue that new vape users have is that you need to let the glass and the herb warm up. I load the stem. put in the arizer on 7. wait for the heat light to go off and then start hitting.

if you dont let the glass and the herb warm up you will get wispy vapor at best. I have a high tolerance and 1 stem will medicate me well.

you are grinding your meds right?

grinding increases surface area and well ground herb provides better vapor and seems to cook more evenly.

Yes, post 1835 page 74!, I am a huge fan of your technique and give you your props for bringing it up. Thanks for MANY cups of the best hot chocolate I have ever made (with clean stems to boot!)
Thanks again FLskwat.

Man, this vape 'high' is weird...i've never vaped before but I just took 4 full stem bowls to the head and i barely feel anything. I mean..i'm high because i feel disoriented a bit (like slow to react) but my head feels weird...like nothings happening but it is? its hard to explain...but, im smoking some indica and don't feel the same 'high' as combustion. (no shit, but still its new to me)

Also,

-how are you guys getting such huge clouds? Mine look week and im taking like 8 sips.

-Why does my Solo LED blink red when i take a sip? And then it stops after a few blinks and again...

After I got my Q I explained to friends that it didn't do much until I stood up and walked sideways. Anyhow, lower temp = different ingredients vaporizing = different high. Light blinking = heating up while you drag off it. Clouds? Practice but also many say the best vape is the one you never see.

Its a strange idea for an aussie not to swallow alcohol?? Dont know how to sell that idea around here.

Oh BTW OF- If you find its dull in oz, then you aint drinking, vaping or hanging out at the beach enough.
oh, then there is the cricket. Just watched the aussies smash the Indians in the Sydney test, 4 days of riveting stuff. Much more interesting than baseball, and it goes for 5 days!!(this one went for 4days cause India needed
to rest cuz we smashed em!!) woo-hoo!

It was awesome, no matter who won BTW.

Man, I haven't watched a cricket match since 2004. Cricket is so much better than baseball. I miss tests, perfect way to get closer to the ganja. And fuck the Aussies, you fuckers most always win. I didn't get to watch the last two world cups, but I am so glad you guys did not win last year - 3 in a row is good enough, ya greedy convicts. I was really surprised when India won that one!

Shadyonedeath -- I come from a fairly heavy smoking habit (in fact, I still smoke joints now and then -- this will never stop, I would not want it to), and it does take a short while to feel/get-with the vape high. I actually got into the vaporizing thing very easily -- the high is there and you will feel it soon. I am sure by the 2nd or 3rd time you vape, you'll have nothing to complain about. Keep vapin', man. If you have a Solo, use it at the highest temp possible (level 7).

What's up fella's. Just found this forum the other night while I was browsing for info about the arizer solo. I've been a vapor aficionado for about 11 years now(everyone else just calls me a weed snob :]), and have owned many different contraptions for vaping over the years. (I even used to vape with a magnifying glass and a normal glass pipe, lol) My main setup has always been a Steinel 3002LCD and a 1.5ft straight glass tube, and I have acquired several good working tubes and guns over the years.

So I have recently been doin alot of hiking since the days have been warm, and wanted to find a good portable vape for my trips. I originally had one of those oldschool ubie's, the little glass cigarette vape, but it is impossible to use in windy conditions, so I needed something a little more self contained. I had owned the Vapir No2, and it was cool, but the battery stopped holding a charge within a few months and eventually stopped working altogether( i had already given it to a co-worker). I did a ton of research, and found that the two portable vapes that I was most interested in were the iolite WHISPR and the Arizer Solo. I was decidedly a bit wary about the battery life on the solo, as the battery life on my Vapir No2 was so bad, but I decided to bite the bullet and try it due to some other minor problems I had heard concerning the WHISPR, (ignition switch failures, leaking butane, not an even distribution of heat from metal pins, etc.). I hope I have made the right choice

So I did overnight shipping, and got it this morning, charging up right now. Will post any first impressions or problems I have, looks like a promising well built unit, build quality is much superior to the Vapir No2 that I had previous experience with. Seems that I got a SS-m105 model, so hopefully no weird smells or flaking issues.

I have also read that charging the battery should not be fully drained like I am used to and then fully recharged, but charged fully and then kept at high levels(above 80% charge from what I read). I am fully charging the unit and then I will recharge it after use to maximize the battery life. ( I hope!)

Hope this wasnt too long winded for ya guys :]

Welcome Mr. Mud, your Solo will work well on your hiking trips as long as they are a day hike or you have access to power if longer than a day to charge up. I use my Solo while skiing on the chairlift, in the trees, in my car and it works flawlessly. I've got 15 days in this season and have not run out of battery power while keeping myself and friends pretty well vaped. Buy a car charger so you have a way to charge up overnight but if you are hiking out for more than a day and not by some sort of power to recharge, you will more than likely drain your battery. You are correct, don't let your batterys drain all the way down to zero or you will lose overall life expectancy to your batteries.

Wow, so i get the unit up and working. put some herb in the stem, put it in the unit, take a few nice clean pulls at 3, really tasty, no strange tastes, definitely gettin some herb in my mouth though, needs some sort of a screen, gonna go to the headshop soon and get one.

SO anyway, i set up the first bowl, put it in, take a few puffs, and my idiot roommate comes in, oh wow you got it working?!? I'm like yeah man try it, hand it to him, and then literally told him "the glass peice in the top just sits in there so dont fucking break it" Sure enough, he takes a hit for about 30 second, pulls the tube out with his mouth, drops it on the floor, shatters everywhere... So great first use for my solo. it auto turned off while i was cleaning up the glass from my straight 4 hole tube, that i got to use once, (i really liked it too..)

As for the vape, i only got it up to temp 3, and it was producing some light vapor clouds, very tasty. personally i dont like to roast my stuff too hard, once the flavor starts being compromised by the popcorny taste, i usually cash it out. Also I did hear the extremely high pitched power supply whine, but I can see how many people don't even hear it, I can barely hear it, and is a non-issue imo.

Thanks for the welcome Papa Woody! I was actually thinkin about buyin that car charger, but I live very close to most of my hiking spots, so it most likely will be a product for the future once I fall completely in love with my vape :] I did have the foresight to order the ac-adapter, an extra straight tube (thank god for that), and some of those tube caps from planetvape.ca last night. So, good thing!

Mr. Mud, I seriously do not know why friends have this overwhelming need to pull the stem out of the Solo after taking their hit even though you have explained to them "you turn the Solo over, insert the stem, turn the Solo right side up, wait a few seconds then hit it. Do not pull the stem so everything falls out!" I've had a number of them immediately yank the stem dumping the contents after 1 hit. What the hell. Sorry to hear your friend broke your stem that quickly. Load up your other stem and forget about it LOL.

lol'' used to be''- the indians thought the same thing. personally, I dont really care who wins, just make the cricket good. Besides the aussies were becoming arrogant in victory, then came complacency, then came the losses & drop in the world rankings.

So, yes watTyler- I agree with you. The holder of the ashes is the better side always.

Welcome mud , I'm sure u will love your solo!

Got an email back from Kevin at arizer today. I was asking what the temp difference is from the ceramic version to the stainless steel version as I have read that people believe the ceramic runs hotter , reply below.

Hello Ash,

Thank you for your email. A small number of the Stainless Steel units had their temperature adjusted by 2-3 degrees C, but all units are now manufactured back at the same temperatures as the original ceramic units. Either way, all units functions the same, just a small number of SS units run slightly cooler, but this does not significantly impact the functionality of the unit.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask me.

Best Regards,
Kevin

Just got a reply from Steve from Arizer about the stinking M105 unit I send back a while ago, I'll share the relevant part of it:

There is a slight smell I agree, it's not the smell I feared, by that I mean not a burnt or electronics smell. We went through every part of your vape yesterday, nothing burnt or melted. The smell is from the stainless dish itself, it's from the process of hardening and purifying the steel, after that it's to be cured by heating and it wasn't cured long enough. It's not toxic, but noticeable, we've known some cases of dishes had the problem and returned them to the supplier for replacement, yours is one that slipped through and it shouldn't have.

My workers should of caught that, I've taken action to ensure it doesn't ever happen again.

OTA, do you think this could account for the smell that some early users had complained about with the old ceramic versions? It seems to me that this would only account for SS smell issues, no?

At least someone at Arizer has acknowledged that a smell issue exists in one form or another with some units. Interesting...

Strange how members have specifically called it an ''electronics' smell.

@OTA- what do you think of his response?? Would you say he has described correctly?

dorkus_molorkus,

I'm not sure Stu, I think it remains a possibility since not the entire bowls were covered in ceramic but just the inside of them.

It appears there are several possible causes for a smell though, as they are still looking in to the matter of the melted/scorched mica they found in one unit so far. But perhaps that one was just an exception since they haven't been able to find another unit with that same problem up to now, lets hope so.

edit: So far I have no reason to believe I'm being bullshitted Dorkus, and I usually have a pretty good feel for people even if it's just via email. Steve has been very open and informative once I finally got in touch with him and he has gone out of his way to help me in greater lengths than I would have expected him to.

I do have some experience with micro soldering, and to be honest it was the only thing I could think of it (the smell) resembled at the time, but my knowledge about - or experience with metals and their curing processes is virtually non existed. I think his explanation seems plausible at least.

@OTA- wasnt implying any BS or fibs, more do you feel he has got it right (via some investigation)
or is his response appear to be a deflection (cant think of the appropriate word) after some cursory inspection?

It was your unit, so therefore he is smelling what you were smelling, do you agree with his description of the smell in your unit?
Mainly because other users have called an electonics smell, and I know one of my units stank for a couple of cycles before it went away, and I would describe that smell as an electronic smell.

(I have no idea if this makes any sense)

dorkus_molorkus,

I find it hard to answer that without the unit here, since it has been over four weeks now since I've actually smelled it.

I just went over some of my older posts where I described the smells when I had just received the unit, just to help me remember. It didn't really help me remember it though, so I'm just going to have to rely on the observations I posted then.

I described two distinct smells back then: I determent one came from the metal body and smelt like paint (thinner?), and the other one seemed to come from the inside of the bowl and reminded me of freshly melted solder. A smell I think many people may confuse with what I would call an electronics smell, which to me is more the smell of hot components. I guess the smell coming from the inside of the bowl strokes with what Steve says, and my lack of experience with melting and curing metals other than solder could explain why I assumed it was solder instead of properly cured SS. I don't know man, I think I'm just gonna stick with 'plausible at least' :D

Perhaps we have a metal guy in here who actually has experience with working on SS that can do a comparison for us?

I'm a bit unsure whether or not I should make this post, but I think I'm going to..

Steve made such a nice gesture today, and since there have been many complains about the fact that Arizer chooses not to be a presence on this forum and the lack of personal contact with the creators like we have in many other vaporizer threads I felt it was sort of 'on-topic' to share this with you, as it might give you a little glimpse of the guy behind the company and the product we discuss here in this thread.

I've been waiting for over a month now to receive my replacement replacement Solo, and just yesterday I found out this was caused by a screw up by Dutch customs. Even though it clearly says it's a warranty replacement on the accompanying documents our customs treated it as an item bought outside of the EU, resulting in a total of around 50US$ in added fees&taxes. Now I could just go and pay those fees and make my case with customs, prove it's actually a warranty replacement, and get my money back. But I'm a stubborn guy -or at least I was this afternoon- and a man of principles or so I'd like to think. So instead I insisted they took the package back to customs, have them do their job properly like they should have in the first place, and then deliver it to me without the bullshit fees. But, since you can't fight a rusty old system this isn't going to happen. The package just sits at the post office now, waiting for me to come pay the fees and pick it up, or it will be returned to sender after 30 days.

I was just venting my frustrations to Steve about this after he informed if I received the replacement he personally picked out for me yet, and this is how he responded:

Hey Marcel,

Thanks for the quick reply. I share your frustration, post office/customs is a pain in the ass to deal with .... seems the way of the business world nowadays ... too many difficult people. We're shipping and importing parts all over the world, I could spend weeks telling you customs stories, LOL.

Seriously, just go get your Solo, pay the fee, I'll paypal you the amount, then enjoy your new Solo and forget about all the paperwork and customs refunds I don't care about that. What we need to do Is get a working Solo in your hands ASAP.

Your Solo in customs is really nice, fresh from off the assembly line, the steel is so thoroughly processed for impurities, cleaned and well cured. I want you to have it.

Anyway, have a good weekend, I hope your Post is open on Saturdays so you can get your Solo.

Best Regards,
Steve

Now I may be going a bit softer as I grow older, but aside from the fact if I'm going to accept his unnecessarily generous offer or not, it's little things like that that just make my day.

When I got my first M104 in October, it stank really bad but I thought it smelled more like a Marks A Lot Magnum marking pen. I sent that one back and got my second M104 which had a very slight smell. This was at the time many posters on here thought it was the paint not being properly cured so a lot of people were baking their tops without the plastic plug. When I unscrewed the top and sniffed the inside of the top, it had the smell. The heater cup did not have any smell. I baked my top and the smell went away. I haven't had a smell issue since. I never felt the smell had an electronics smell, a hot electronics component smell, a solder smell, or a plastic smell. If you know what a Marks A Lot pen smells like, thats what I smelled.
And by the way, in looking at my heater cup now after heavy use at levels 4 to 7, I see absolutely no signs of heater housing melting or distortion as was described a few pages back.
I love my Solo and will continue to use it as my hourly driver. Those who still sit on the fence should know that despite some issues, the Solo is a fucking great tool that works for me everytime with great taste and punch.

OTA, now that's the kind of service I expect from an excellent company. Thank you for posting that experience.
