Arizer Solo

woops, I guess I need to clarify.

I feel that the solo hits harder than my DBV for a couple of reasons.

I use a convex UBER screen for awesome one or 2 hit stems thru my waterpipe at temp 7 & let the herb pre-heat a bit.
Nice quick (sortof), THICK,
THICK, THICK clouds that are about 1.8 times my lung capacity.

So, one really big hit, then one not so big.
Now I get 4-5 stems a solo heat cycle. and the ABV is toasted, really toasted.

My herb supply is a hit and miss affair ATM, so conservation is very important to me & I feel that the solo provides the best efficiency out of the vapes I own.
If I found myself with an abundance of herb, I would dust off the DBV & flog the bejesus out of it just to be sure.

but as posted above- ''I really don't miss my DBV at all, but I would definitely miss my Solo''
sums it up for me.
but thats just my opinion & :2c:

:peace:

@ Kelblow, my model is M103

And I didn't mean to talk down on Randy, he is a great guy with a great company, it was probably just a misunderstanding, I'll let you guys know.
\
And wow this mofo does hit big! I'm a happy customer!

I actually contacted PuffItUp support about additional stems for the Solo. The very same day, Randy contacted me and let me know replacement wands have been added to the site and they were ready to purchase. I can say nothing but good things about PuffItUp and their service has always been excellent. As for the Solo, loving my new unit from PuffItUp. It's the ceramic model (M103) but there is no electronic smell or noticeable noise.

I was a bit disappointed when I noticed my replacement unit from Arizer had a strong odor to it. The smell has since decreased slightly but is still noticeable. I had hoped that it would have burned off by now but it's still there. My Dad is fine with it but I wasn't a fan of it at all.

That smell finally wore off on mine completely, so I wouldn't worry about it, I think it really is just from the manufacturing process. The noise does seem to be controlling the heat temperature because it engages during a big hit. Its not really a nuisance and is a very low frequency so most people wont here it. I am just prone to irritating noises but I hope I outgrow the abilitity to hear such a low frequency soon.

I agree it works great but to say its better than the DBV lol Everyone has their own opinion though

I would never replace my solo with a DBV. They are around the same price and way more r&d was put into the Solo. Which IMO justifies the price, unlike with the DBV. I really don't miss my DBV at all, but I would definitely miss my Solo.

What makes you think the solo had more R&D? They are already replacing the ceramic bowl that is peeling for most people here, but they somehow didn't notice that? Not trying to bash the solo but I really doubt your claim that it had more R&D than DBV

Blaaaaah
Maybe less QC, but the solo has more room for error than the DBV anyway, mostly due to the seemingly useless ceramic coating Arizer puts over the SS bowl in the solo. If arizer was not so concerned with cosmetics, than this issue would not even exist since they have said that it serves no purpose other than aesthetic value.

As for the R&D, just look at the two devices. One is a simple ceramic rod, much like those found in many soldering irons such as Hakko made ones. This is set up to a potentiometer that simply controls the heat for the ceramic rod. Not too many custom made parts it seems, simple and effective.

As for the solo, it is digitally controlled unlike the DBV. Also you can clearly tell that there are quite a few parts to the solo that seem to be made specifically for it. There was actual programming involved with the design of the solo, what with the 7 selectable temps, the automatic 12 minute shut off, the display of how much charge is left when first turned on, the ability to turn the sound on and off, the fact that it has sound, the battery light display as you charge the unit, etc... just a lot more going on.

I'm not saying that this is what makes the solo a better vape for me, just simply stating that I feel the solo had more engineering put into it. Which when you compare the two vapes and their prices, seems a bit unbalanced.

Fair points and as always there are pros and cons to each vape. It just seems weird that there are more issues being reported with the solo already as far as I can tell. Headaches, smells, flavors. Stuff like that worries me. The biggest inconsistency I know of with DBV is the knob position was relative to your vape alone.

darkrom,
I own both solo and DBV/SSV, and the SS model is much better then the ceramic. Taste is on par with the dbv but it is much more user friendly. Buy the SSV over the the solo if you don't chill much with newbies or are very tough on herb. People except the portable to provide desktop quality vapor.

I thought mine was hitting harder than my DBV too when I bought it. I think we are just people who didn't crank the DBV temp up enough LOL. I sold my DBV and I'm in the process of selling my solo. They are both great vapes I've just moved on to better (for me personally) vapes.

I'm curious, what would you say is better than a Solo at this point? The only thing I've heard more praise for is possibly the Cloud.....

Portable wise? I don't know anything that hits as hard as the solo. That is why I am pretty dissapointed that I sort of just grew out of mine. There are a few things I don't like about it. The smell and flavor is worse on the SS bowl IMO. At least my solo is. It tastes how fire retardant material smells when you expose it to direct flame which is as offputting as it sounds. Maybe some people are just more sensitive to it, but it has almost made me vomit on 2 occasions. That and the odd "unknown smell" and people having to put their solo in the oven is really something I can't believe is happening on such an expensive and new vaporizer. I also am one of the people who gets headaches from the solo. It doesn't happen often, but it doesn't ever happen with other vapes.

I am back to the MFLB on the go and my underdog in my car or at home. The cloud looks awesome, but I've never tried it. I think its crazy to compare the non-portable cloud with REAL all glass air path (that's true isn't it still?) to the solo portable vape.

did you happen to speak to Randy about why yours was a ceramic one when you asked for S.S? i'd like to order one from PuffItUp but only if its the new SS model. I'm from the UK so can't really risk being sent the wrong one and having to send it all the way back.

With respect to the noise/pitch issue, my old peeling Solo developed that after a month or so. I distinctly remember it starting, so who knows...maybe a knock over on the table could cause it? I think I remember it making noise whenever it heated up. My replacement solo is quiet, and my warranty replacement for the warranty replacement should be here today.

I'm a little disappointed to hear that the SS Solo is way better, and then to hear conflicting reports that it's not as good as the ceramic due to smell, etc. when Kevin at Arizer Tech said that other than a SS bowl, there is no difference between units. I personally don't believe that the ceramic coating was just cosmetic. I also don't believe that it is only 3% or less of Solos either.

As for DBV vs Solo, i've only owned the SSV and EQ, and like another poster said, i'd miss my Solo but wouldn't miss my SSV/EQ. Sure those are heavy hitters, but I can get pretty heavy vapor out of the Solo so i'm not too concerned.

Had the same problem on another Solo and it started after a while of use. All I can say if that others you then never buy an EQ! I swear every power supply squeels on that thing!

Nosferatu said:
Ahhh the pitch is driving me nuts as I type. Its almost constantly apparent at temp 5. And comes on about every 20 seconds on lower temps. The best I can explain it is that its like a squeek inside the left side of your brain. Maybe I can hear it because I'm younger, anyone wle who notices the noise should state your age group. And I'm kind of wondering why Randy assured me its the new SS bowl, when its not. I thought he was a stand up guy?

vape4life,
Has anyone else been having charging issues?
Mine will recently just stop flashing the green light when charging and will not reach a complete charge.
I have only had it for under a month so I feel like loss of battery capacity is out of the question. Any ideas?

I'm not 100% certain because I haven't kept an eye on it for too long but I swear after a full charge that sometimes after just a few sesh's it drops by like 3 or 4 lights and it never used to do that before. Then again, it could just be me being fried lol

Being a Solo owner myself I know all too well the headaches, but they seem to fade quickly. I have been hoping that its just the increased suction required, and nothing else too serious. The smell has also made me gag more than once, I have found removing the top to be 100x better but still not perfect. I could never ever go back to the MFLB after the Solo, not for all the vapor in the world. I'm holding out high hopes for the miVape, the idea of a Solo like device that can be used while charging with an all glass vapor path? Fuck yes. Have been using my Solo daily and have absolutely no flaking issue what so ever so at least thats a big plus :)

So now the SS version tastes bad and gives people headaches too...??? AAAAARRRGGGGGH!

Every time I try to pull the trigger on this thing some new issue comes up that I do not want to deal with. I just want it to function as advertised with no BS side effects.

Pros:
Portability
Quality Vapor
Adjustable temp

Cons:
Chemical Smell
Potential Headaches/Health concerns
Peeling Ceramic Bowls
Battery Life/Replacement
Annoying high pitch noise
SS not really an "upgrade" just a sidestep

The smell/taste/headache/peeling/battery/noise issues are REALLY scaring me away from this thing unfortunately...

I probably would have already bought one from puffitup.com if he could just give me a straight answer as to whether he's selling the new stainless bowl version yet instead of "let me check and email you back later". His website says he got the new SS version and started shipping them last Monday. Either you have the SS bowl version in stock to ship or you don't what is there to check??? Shouldn't you know what you have if you just got it in stock a week ago? Seems like he's trying to hold the stainless ones back or something, probably trying to get rid of the old ones before he stops doing the discount code in a couple days.

All glass vapor path. That's what I meant thanks. The solo having an "all glass air path" was one of the big reasons I bought it and shortly later it was decided that it was incorrect.

The headaches are definitely something I don't think are acceptable. Even if they fade fast (sometimes mine don't) there is SOME underlying cause, and I am 100% certain it isn't glass, cannabis, or stainless...which is quite worrying.

As far as gagging with the nasty ass taste...thats likely related to the headaches. IMO (with no facts to back it up) there is SOME kind of offgassing happening. I keep telling myself I will keep my solo because it hits hard, but then I use it and just feel disgusting for using a vape I don't trust at ALL anymore.

The vape itself works and works well. Arizer has really good customer support (yet terrible communication skill/lack of effort there) , but even with those 2 factors I simply can't deal with a vape that has negative side effects like that. I can deal with a good deal of inconvenience, but when you are talking about disgusting smells/taste/headaches etc... that is NOT a good product IMHO. It's a shame because if you look back you will see my early posts where I was talking about this vape like it was the second coming of Gozer....I loved it. Too bad arizer. If there were no health concerns with your vape I'd still be all over it.

As it should IMO. Anyone who disagrees I have to ask...why not? The manufacturer is remaining 100% silent about that and brushing it off like everything else. It is my opinion that they VANISHED from this site because they simply do not want to be held accountable and answer our questions and concerns. That's seriously frustrating to the customers to buy a product that they don't really stand behind. Sure the warranty is fine, if you want a new unit with other problems that they won't address.

The Solo, as nice as it is, is a portable with somewhat restricted air flow. IMO (and I'm far from alone here) it's a big leap to be rating it higher than many excellent home units. To start with, you'd have to specify in what way it's "better".
