OK thanks guys. This is going to sound weird but I feel like my Solo gives off some frequency every now and then. It sounds like that mosquito sound you can play on a phone or computer. Its kind of iritating, but then again I cant tell if its real.. :uhoh:

Also the temp indicator lights tend to blink sometimes and move up and down temp every now and then, is this normal? Also the bowl is black but there is a silver ring before it.
Maybe time for a break and a little lie down mate!
So your theory is that he's both hearing and seeing things that aren't there? Are you familiar with electronics? High frequency noises aren't all that uncommon.

In general, women have better hearing at the high end.

There is a review on amazon that talks about a high pitch squeel/whine so it has been reported...

I really want to get an arizer solo but I'm trying to wait for the stainless bowl version. However there seems to be all kinds of sales going on. You can get them as cheap as $150 on amazon.com but I don't want to have to deal with the bs of the bowl flaking or smelling bad or giving me a headache.

Is it guaranteed to be a stainless version if you get it at puffitup.com ? Someone said earlier in the thread that they had the new stainless version in and I asked them on their website/aim chat but didn't get a response. I would definitely pay a little more to guarantee that I got a newer model. How sketchy are the amazon sellers? It seems that arizer honors the warranty no matter where you buy it as long as its new and you have a receipt so I don't see the point in overpaying.

It wouldnt be uncommon for the circuit design to use some kind switching power supply that operates in the upper audible frequencies. older people and men more th an women suffer from attenuation at these higher frequencies.

Far as I know, I'm getting no squeal... just massive clouds of enjoyment haha.
I accidentally turned my beeps off... guess I held the up button too long or something... I kinda like it quiet, but it's also kinda weird without the beeps...

here for the chicks
It's normal that it blinks every now and then, it's just reheating the bowl. It's got some sort of thermostat that controls the heater, so the power isn't on all the time.

The noise thing is kinda funny, first time I hear of it even though there's two of you now. I would not like this.

Oh, you got a ceramic coated bowl then, so they send you the wrong one unfortunatly. This combined with the noise thingie would probably make me ask for another one..

the noise will be inherent in all units -- unlike flaking or smell which from reports is dependent on the particular unit.

so if the solo crucible is coated ceramic aluminium, its not gonna be too healthy vaping off aluminium if you ve removed youre coating. Is vaping from an aluminium bowl safe i wonder?
great post by the way!

the solo is a heavy hitter no doubt about that .abuse it and it will smash you. :)

I don't think the aluminum is going to matter. there appears to be no conclusive evidence that Al has any obvious bad effects on health. also Al has a boiling point of 2500C or 4500F so its doubtful even any would get into the vapor and then into your body. but I'm no expert.

Here is a link to a post by Willeh about an email from Steve at Arizer, below is a quote from that post. http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=5564

my arizer email wrote:
The chipping paint you mention is ceramic, it is chemically inert so there is zero risk to ingest it but still it's a disappointment. You're right it was done primarily for looks as the steel bowl underneath 'blues' over time with repetitive heating. Having it black just looks better. To get ceramic to adhere to steel is usually a potentially toxic undertaking because of the 'binding agents' used. They normally use a combination of silica's and glues. I wanted a black bowl and I wanted a ceramic coating applied "organically". My suggestion was to bake it on using no binding agents. I insisted on it.
It's possible to do this, our research found it's been done this way in parts of Europe since the early '90's.
It works great 'if' you bake the ceramic on for an exact length of time, to short or too long and you get either flaking or peeling. That's what's happening now. Some bowls could of been baked in an oven that wasn't preheated long enough, or left in for too long.
I wanted to give you a detailed explanation so you're not concerned. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience

I got one for $170 on Ebay from evapor, came with a nice hardshell vapecase. Is a ceramic, but so far is fine. the Solo will bake you, no doubt.

Just got the Solo from Puffitup for 189$. I love it, perfect for work! I got a snug stem and a loose stem, so I'm happy. I cut DBV screens down to the same size as the stems diameter and it stays in perfectly. I don't see how one would hit ground up bud in this device without an added screen though, it sucks right through those two little holes. I have a question though, when its charging I noticed the numbers start lighting up until it gets to 7, does that indicate the charge level? If so how do I bring that up when its not plugged in. Also Randy told me I'm getting the SS version, how do I confirm that, because everything seems to be coated in ceramic?

Just wondering what the model number is ? Mine is M104. Not sure if that is a newer run or not.

I can confirm that the Solo emits an audible sound when the heater is on. I held it up to a very high quality microphone connected to a meter. when the heater is on, the mic pics up a sound (i can't hear it). when the heater goes off, there is no signal shown.

If anyone is interested I followed up arizer on the socalled stainless steel 'inserts'. These are actually just screens for the bowl, but they're pre-cut to your size and a nice micron, very small holes. Sort of a disappointment as it does not stop chipping from entering the abv.

I use a top and bottom screen in the mouthpiece stash end. this way nothing gets/touches the crucible/bowl and the avb stays in the glass end until its removed. also require the salad not be compressed. works loose which is real nice.

I guess I hadn't seriously considered using one as a bowl cap. I don't want to deal with plucking a screen out of a hot bowl when I want to pack seconds though as far as preloading for on the go that would be nice. I'm just going to continue using the solo with a water filter and throwing out the avb til I get the next best portable to come out, or the cloud.

Ahhh the pitch is driving me nuts as I type. Its almost constantly apparent at temp 5. And comes on about every 20 seconds on lower temps. The best I can explain it is that its like a squeek inside the left side of your brain. Maybe I can hear it because I'm younger, anyone wle who notices the noise should state your age group. And I'm kind of wondering why Randy assured me its the new SS bowl, when its not. I thought he was a stand up guy?

@ watTyler re post 2217- dude that was one of the most classiest replies I have read to a flaming asshole
in a very long time.- kudos.

Thank fuck most of us down under are a bit more relaxed than some others.

thankyou for your interest in australian history & some of its folkart.
Its barely referenced here at all anymore.
you brought something to my attention that I had not heard before, and I live here.-lol

In order to stay on topic:

I fucking love my solo, it rocks harder than my HA 2.1 & my DBV, and continues to blow my head off everyday.

and they both continue to work perfectly, (despite one of them flaking.)

dorkus_molorkus,
I've never noticed a high pitch with any of my Solos, either while charging or in use. Maybe too much loud music?

Nos, Randy has always been awesome in my experience. Email him about it and see what he says, you'll probably either get a SS Solo or your money back.

I experimented with the dual screen setup in the stem a long time ago. I figured it allowed for a more convection-centric vaporization, with no conduction from the hot chamber bottom. Eventually I abandoned it just because it was a little bit of a hassle and also because using the Solo with one screen or no screen is all feasible. Each of the three methods has advantages. There's also the little discussed method of putting a screen in the bottom of the actual chamber for various supposed purposes. And again, there's the idea of putting a fibrous substance in the bottom of the chamber and soaking oils into it - be it stacked screens, a glass frit pad, or hypothetically a piece of cotton. So we've got.. 5 ways to use the Solo, or 6 if you count vaping oil out of the stems themselves with a torch.

I thought mine was hitting harder than my DBV too when I bought it. I think we are just people who didn't crank the DBV temp up enough LOL. I sold my DBV and I'm in the process of selling my solo. They are both great vapes I've just moved on to better (for me personally) vapes.

Maybe you can hear it because your unit is making the noise and others aren't. It's also possible that different frequencies are involved with different units. Certainly high frequency hearing can differ due to age and sex, but it's not the only answer.

And I'm kind of wondering why Randy assured me its the new SS bowl, when its not. I thought he was a stand up guy?
Why don't you ask him instead of casting aspersions on the forum. Randy has proven many times that his company's service is top rate. All you need for proof is the number of posts in the Supporting Retailers section. If you're not satisfied with your purchase, I'd be willing to bet that you can return it for a refund.

If you intended to convey humor with your response you should have used one of our emoticons- ;) would have done just fine. They're a good substitute for tone of voice and body language, and without one, sometimes the intent of the words has to be determined by the reader, and is open to different interpretations.

I would never replace my solo with a DBV. They are around the same price and way more r&d was put into the Solo. Which IMO justifies the price, unlike with the DBV. I really don't miss my DBV at all, but I would definitely miss my Solo.
