Arizer Solo

I'm surprised to hear that these scuff easily. I had a chance to hold one the other day and it felt like a tank! Very satisfying in hand. Now if only it had been at a friend's house and not a store I might've been able to find out if it hits like a tank too ;)

There are already stores carrying it? I didn't realize. Where did you see it nr-cole?

I can confirm that it does indeed hit like a tank.

Ordered two Arizer Solo's from GreatVape.com and received them today. As my first vaporizer, I am extremely impressed. Without past vaporizers as a reference point my opinion is minimal at best but there is no doubt this vaporizer is fantastic! The second vaporizer (for my Dad) is also getting some serious love, he can't put the thing down it seems!

How does the Arizer Solo compare to other vaporizers know for effiency such as the PD? I would certainly purchase a PD for home use if there is a huge difference in efficiency.

Overall this thing provides an awesome experience. I ran into no issues other than user error on my first bowl. I didn't pack the herbs enough and they cooked in the heating element.

Well, no, there is no difference in efficiency. In fact, I'd say the Solo extracts better.

There is a difference in bowl size, however. So, yes, it is easier to go through more herb in the Solo than a log-vape. If one is careful about how much one loads, then no, a log-vape is not more efficient than the Solo both from an extraction and amount-of-herb-used pov.

I come from using the PD primarily for a long time. Yeah it's good, but I like being able to adjust the temp and I don't really see a difference in my consumption between the two. I am now strictly using the Solo just because it's so easy to use and just feels better in my hand than the bulkier log vape. It's much slimmer. Plus cleaning the Solo tubes seems much easier without having to shake anything really. Everything seems to come out in an iso wash with maybe just a littler swirl.

I'm in Ontario. One of our five head shops (university towns, right?) had it. Was even selling it for roughly the same price I've seen online. Seems to me stores usually mark shit up anywhere from $30 -100.

Arizer is a Canadian company, so that might explain it.

 I had a big long reply, and I paused to compare having loaded a PD stems worth into my Solo... came back and my post was gone :o

Anyway having done the test I'm confident in saying that I don't believe that there's anything to gain by owning a log vape as well. Except a pretty and reliable alternative vape to run 24/7 for periods when the solo was charging. That's good enough justification for me at least :p But the Solo is just as 'efficient' with the small amounts, and maybe even more so seeing as you can up the temp for a more complete extraction. The bowl is bigger, and so there's the temptation to load more, but for me that just means less stems- I'd have maybe 3-6 PD stems in a session , whereas the Solo it's 1-3. I
don't have scales, but the PD load seemed to be around 1/3 of a full Solo stem.

That said I'm not even a week into ownership yet and so am still experimenting and forming my opinions. But I am very impressed from a functionality point of view. I will say in addition to other peoples comments about the charging position that this unit would be so much better if it charged on some kind of small base station- just like my electric shaver or toothbrush. Super easy to slot onto the stand, and means that the unit would't be laying on it's side to charge. I might even see what I can make from a block of wood, but it won't match with the ultra sleek modern design of the unit! lol.

Battery life is an issue for an all day vaper like myself- really I need 2 units on rotation- one in use whilst the other is charging, but that's an expensive solution when I've got lots of other vapes in the house. If I didn't though I'd seriously consider buying another :o. Modular batteries would be an even better solution.

The loose glass stems have actually really grown on me. According to my other half they do look a bit out of place, but I actually think that they're a pretty good design in most respects. And I'm getting to like to loosness of the fit- it's pretty easy to steady with one finger. I don't use any extra screens- I just haven't found the need to yet- and have just been packing into the stem as it comes.

If it wasn't for the battery life I think I would be giving full marks.

While I am really enjoying my Solo, I don't think it will ever replace my PD for daily home use. The PD is always on and ready for a stem. There is no waiting a couple minutes while it heats up, no worrying about timing out after 12 minutes, no worries about how much battery life is left, etc... Besides, there is something about my PD ritual that is comforting in and of itself. I also blow through about twice as much weed with my Solo, but I know a lot of that is just me still playing with my new toy. The Solo definitely extracts more from my bud, but the PD excels at stretching your supply much, much better.

Are you sure the above is a characteristic of the vaporizer? Seems more like a characteristic of the user. I have the same opinion as you: the PD/WDZ/Zap will stretch the supply longer than the Solo. But I am pretty certain this is not because of any short comings in the Solo, instead the inability on my part to load the Solo with less herb.

That said, there will always be a log vape in my house.

Wat: I, too, have thought about buying another Solo to keep on rotation. We'll see. If it were inherently more portable (lighter, less bulky, some way around glass stem), I probably already would have. Modular batts does seem to be a better solution for sure.

I would say that it is an observation from personal experience. This of course is anecdotal and the underlying factors involved certainly have to do with the user (me) as well as the device. YMMV.

So does anyone know if you can purchase the AC adapter to use with the Solo while not charging anywhere besides rockwise? And does anyone own one of these adapters and care to share their experience?

You can find the adapter here http://www.rockwise.net/catalog/7?page=1 and of course they are sold out. I really hope a U.S. retailer get some of these adapter since when I buy a Solo I know it will be a lifesaver and battery saver, and with the price already being so steep I don't want to pay for shipping from Canada.

Is it possible to connect the charger with a car power adapter so you can plug in the solo and charge while in the car?

geez we're gettin' a bit precious here...fingerprint & scuffing concerns! for fuck's sake!
this vape has no equal... yeah, yeah, yeah, piss in my ear about * and it's various attributes but, after 31 years of ingesting dope, the solo delivers what i want when i want, economically and with minimum harm to my body. been a long time comin'
perhaps all you girls out there can focus on the innards rather than the superficial.
the solo delivers.
p.s. i hate the non programmable 12 minute cut off.

Stu,
Perhaps you should ponder the high price point of such a vaporizer, and how small details like a shitty paint job can tarnish an otherwise excellent impression. The battery life is also nowhere near what most retailers are advertising. Combin that with the battery's non-modular design, and we have people seriously considering buying another 230+ dollar vape, instead of a spare 20 dollar battery. That's not superficial - do you happen to work for a living? If you do, you'll likely understand. Now those people are only willing to pay that expense because they love their first, somewhat flawed Solo so much, and that does speak of its very impressive strengths, and no one here disputes that the Solo is an impressive, efficient, and power-packed vaporizer... But flaws is flaws: A) battery life and non-modularity, B) Paint job, C) various stem issues related to tightness of fit, which I recall you also experienced personally, and D) the whole two-adapter system.

This isn't the immaculate vaporizer after all. I'd still recommend it to anyone looking for a powerful portable.

Contradictory ass post  I don't mean to bitch so much, I just want a fair view. I was similarly floored by the Solo initially until the grim, meathook realities of battery life set in, but again I still rate it like 8.5 out of 10 and use it on the daily. The Solo and the Supreme make a great combo.

charliedontsurf,
Cant wait to try one of these out, Love my extreme for the $$

Any chance they'll make it in any shops down south?

i dig what you're sayin' charlie...your questions; the most important to me is yes; i do work. i work as a farmer and last financial year i earned $12,000. i grow my own so i don't have that expense and i have lot's of country living perks such as fresh vegies so i'm cash poor and life rich.. but i reckon the price i paid for solo which is bound to come down is worth it.
*eeek* i almost forgot for all the above is I.M.O. *rousing music*

Cheers man, it sound silly but I always thought honest agriculture was an admirable, almost enviable way to earn a living. I heard somewhere there's a big lack of new farming blood in America, too. If that portion of my post came off as adversarial, it's my bad.

so I decided to poke around the internals of the solo a bit more today. I disassembled the heating element and it seems to be completely proprietary -- there are no marking on it at all.

I may also have good news for those who really find it necessary to disable the 12 minute shutoff. There are two ic chips on the board that have been intentionally scribbled on to hide their identity. When I head back to my office tomorrow I'll clean them up and hopefully be able to identify them. One I do I should be able to provide instructions on how to disable the time by either a) soldering a resister between two pins to deactivate the reset line or b) heating and lifting one pin. Do be aware neither will be an easy job for a novice.

Also of note the batteries in the solo are only 2200mah.

Dude, you're braver than I! Can you get some pics of the innards up? I'm dying to know the exact nature of the air path since no one is saying anything about it. All we've heard so far is where the air comes in from, but nothing about what it travels over as it is heated up and directed to the stem.

Well it looks like the SOLO has invaded ebay. There are many for sale on ebay now and for anyone who is looking for the cheapest price, this is where you will find it, $199 with free shipping. Just keep in mind, if you purchase one of these at this price, you may not have full manufacture warranty. There is even a used one for $160 shipped.

Yep he was asking 180.
He also states that the stems fit snug and don't spin I emailed him about it.
I do think with a snug stem it let's less air in so it should be a more milky hit

Edit the one for $160. is the "Used only once" form N.H. sorry.
