Oh, I meant to mention my screen solution when I introduced myself.

As I stated, this is my first vape. One of my preferred devices before making the switch was a solopipe. I took one of the screens that come with it (they come sort of preformed to fit into a bowl) and, sure enough, the thing fit into the stem absolutely perfectly. Not sure if they are sold on their own somewhere, but they come with this cleaning kit for only $2.99: http://www.tccworldwide.com/solopipe-cleaning-kit.html

Just received my solo today, it is charging now. I must say, as other members have that:

1. The build of this unit is amazing, truly setting a new standard in hardware/design
2. This thing is much smaller than I expected, a VERY nice size for on the go but also at home use.

I expect this vape to fill my use for when I am away from home, but not necessarily in need of stealth or away from an outlet/civilization. Example, when I visit my parents for the weekend. Currently I usually haul along my LSV, which always feels a bit over the top.

I am excited to try the difference between a stem with a screen and a fine grind, versus without and with a more coarse grind. If this can truly be used with a less fine grind with no screen (which normally requires a good 2pc, and therefore a place to dump the herb) then this will truly be an asset on the go, less time worrying about the grinding process (or pre grinding) and less clean up due to clogged screens.

Enjoy your new toy, Shadow. I'm still experimenting with grinds and screens, so I will appreciate your findings as well.

In my preliminary research (all in the name of research, right?), I've found that while a finer grind with a screen provides a little better performance, a little pinch of a nug in a screenless stem still gives off very nice vapor.

Anyone else been experimenting with different grinds (or lack thereof) and screens?

Hi all, had my solo for about a month now and thought I'd chime in with my 2 cents worth. Only other vape I've owned is the no2. I read all the bad reviews about it but most seemed to agree that it was a heavy hitter, that along with portability were the most important things for me so I decided to take my chances with the taste and give it a go. I won't go into it too much as this isn't the no2 thread but it definitely got u where u needed to be however the taste wasn't great and I did have some issues with a dry cough and a tight chest if I vaped at higher temps.
Gotta say the solo is a much better experience all round. I don't know if I already had it in my head from reading the thread that the no2 had a plastic, potentially toxic element to it but the solo tastes better particularly after the first couple of draws when the herb flavour starts to change. It also feels a lot easier on the chest and have only had a couple of instances where it has made me cough. Definitely seems like a cleaner delivery. I would say that the no2 probably gives me a stronger buzz but I think I prefer the high from the solo.
Here is my method after much tweaking and experimentation.
I use a steel screen concaved at the bottom of the bowl as advised by willeh.
Pack a full bowl but don't thumb it too tight.
Set it to the max temp and put it in the solo about a minute or 2 before it reaches temp for a short pre heat.
Take as long a draw as I can first up as this is always seems to be the best tasting.
Turn it down to 3 for the 2nd draw then gradually increase temp until back to about 5 and hit the bowl about 7 or 8 times.
I also try not to sit on it for too long in between draws if I can help it, usually the time it takes for the temp to adjust is enough of a break.
Anyway thanks for all the great tips and reviews, hope I didn't ramble on too much with first ever post, I have been trawling fc for about a year.
All the best from down under

Greendingo,
Well, I have to levy one relatively serious grievance with the Solo, and that is battery life. While I had previously said it was adequate for me given my tolerance and my expectancy of a day's vaping.. Well, I didn't count a whole day, and certainly not a "vacation," time-off type day.

I only got 7 bowls out of my Solo today before it got down to the 1 out of 7 battery life rating. At that point I stopped because I didn't want to A) harm the battery's long term life expectancy by running it down, and B) have it fizzle out halfway through a bowl. I realize now that I really will have to plug in the Solo whenever I'm not using it, if I truly want to "not worry" about it dying. Even then, it is not a viable solution for, say, you and two buddies on a 8 hour long road trip. The battery would be well dead by hour 3 if all of you were serious heads. Maybe it somehow didn't get a good charge last night (10 hours plus), but it still has me worried.

Maybe the battery is truly the limiting factor in this technology, just like it had been for almost 100 years on the electric car. Has Arizer given us an actual MAH rating on their battery? Today's experience makes me suddenly very curious. And if I can only get, say, 6-10 bowls out of a battery, then the battery should clearly of been modular - think a well made Android phone, not a BS Iphone internal battery phone. And just like a smartphone, I think heavy users or users with lots of friends who want to vaporize as well will quickly have range anxiety about the battery life.

Edit: those bowls were moderate packs, taken at a setting of either 3 for native or 5 for vapebonging. Also, my finding of 7 bowls is roughly consistent with the 8 that FLskwat estimated he got.

There have been people talking about the Solo VS MFLB, and I have to say they are very different, complementary vapes. The MFLB is infinitely more stealthy, has no heat up time to speak of, and can be put away at a moment's notice with almost no breakable parts in its construction. Solo gives better clouds and with almost no learning curve.

Can somebody take a picture of the bottom of the power adapter, or just type out all the relevant info like output, output current, etc, etc

Thanks

Edit: Got the info I needed -- a 9v 1.5amp power adapter is minimum to power the unit, but you can always use a 2amp, 2.5amp, etc

 well I ordered late last night when my temptation resistance was low.... now you've got me questioning my choice Charlie! Nah, I guess the other alternative toy I might have bought right now was the wispr, but that's only a 3 hr tank. Although I suppose you can just refill the fuel .... But then I have 2 Iolites, and I can't imagine that the hit quality on the wispr will be all that different. I've justified the Solo on the rationale that it's a portable heavier hitter- good for night times when I have to stay away on business- and can beat all my other portables in that department (please don't tell me yet if it can't!)

The Firefly vape guys have also lost out because I'm really interested in what that will be, expecting something special, and was going to wait before making another vape purchase. I might have chosen it over the Solo for a portable electric (it's claimed to have customiseable wood inlays :brow:), but still no news even though it is meant to be released this summer. I guess my resolve to wait weakened when I placed the order for the mis-priced listing on Amazon. I was never ready to purchase before that, but ever since it was cancelled I've been teetering on the brink of buying. What a sucker.

Now that awful waiting game for a parcel from mainland Europe. 3-6 days. And I haven't told my partner yet! Not that it really matters; she won't leave me over it, but I'm always moaning about how skint we are at the moment with her not working and trying to economise in other areas like eating out, which is the type of thing she would rather spend on. And this is the second new vape I've bought this month! Oh well, I'll perhaps be in the dog house for a couple of nights........

Edit; and no worries VapoShop- you got my order last night- I got the 10%- and will give you a good review (when I get it  , I'll give you one for my Vapman purchase now too!). it was Kelblow that missed the discount.

It'll be worth it Wat!.

By the way VapoShop that was me that missed the discount and I've shot you an e-mail man!!.

Me again!,
Just to say I did my 1st early morning mini bowl test with the solo today and it passed with flying colours.Something that my SSV couldn't do,as it's just tooooo heavy!!.Solo gave me a lovely warm buzz to go back to bed on and snooze further.A sort of Snooze Control if you like.

Sorry to hear about your disappointment Charlie. But to be honest, what did you expect? I think so far most users users report a battery life of about 6 to 8 bowls, perhaps it's time for a tolerance break mate ;)

Nice to see Vaposhop reading along with us as well, I'll do a little shop-review if that helps. I do hope somethings wrong with my Solo so I can test your after-sales service as well though

WT, welcome aboard, lol. 3 to 6 days doesn't sound that bad man, I usually have to wait 2 to 3 weeks if I order something from the UK.

Great Scott!
Heres a question I have mostly prompted by charlie not liking the battery life...

How many stems back to back do you need to get YOUR desired level of effects? I know this depends on the person, the herb, the packing of the stem etc... but I still want to get an idea here.

Are most people set after 1? 2? 5? Just throw up your numbers for my curiosity since it is hardly scientific.

Personnally I'm at a suitable level after 1,though I could go to 2 if I was in the mood for gettin blitzed!.

Before I read that post about not running the battery down all the way (I think it was Pakalolo that spoke to the question of battery care), I was experimenting to see how many 12-minute cycles this thing was capable of. I noticed that although the battery indicator went down to "1" after 6 or 7 cycles, I got another 4 or 5 full 12-minute cycles with the battery indicator still on 1. So I guess what I'm saying is that "1" doesn't necessarily mean "almost dead". It certainly doesn't mean that there is only 1/7th of battery life left. Clearly the 1-7 scale for battery life isn't a truly reliable indicator of battery life as it goes from "7" down to "6" rather quickly (and from 6 to 5, etc...) but gives several cycles still once the indicator reads "1".

A power invertor for your car would work well for trips, just charge when not using. I took it with me on a 3.5 hour car ride this past week, and 5 bowls was about perfect. Then again, i was rolling solo.

That's what I do to keep mine charged. Been working for me and I go everywhere. I am a conservative heavy user. I use everyday like 15 times, but small bowls. Have not had an issue with the battery.

Anyone have the charger that you can use while vapin. My solo is here, 1 load in and I like it.

edit: The instruction paper isn't very clear. It says" Note: Unit cannot be used when plugged into charger. *An optional wall charger/adapter is available if you wish to use the device while plugged in AND charging. **19V charger also available."

Would you take to mean the 19V is the charger+use adapter. Anyone else think its weird that Arizer only appears on the paper two times.

A few posts up I mentioned that it appears you need a 9 volt 1.5 amp power supply for simply running the unit.

http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-9V-2500mA-2-...195?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item20badbb83b

This will work since its got 2.5amps to draw from, and the unit will use 1.5a

Only thing is you may have to buy universal attachments for the tip so it fits the solo of course... but its actually the same size as the extremes connector so it'll most likely be perfect.

This would mean its a 15watt heater inside the thing?

Screw it, I'll just order the solo and take it apart haha

I hear Rockwise has the car charger for 29.95. Having a charger in your car would come in very handy and necessary if you're on a long road trip or car camping.
I plug mine in after a few sessions and so far my battery seems to be holding strong. I definitely plan on getting the power adapter for home use so I can cut down on the battery usage whenever that becomes available.
Good to know about the battery life when it's reading low....thanks Stu. I think that's to get you to plug it in so you don't get that lithium ion battery down too low....that's bad. That's the disadvantage to a battery unit....the battery will not last forever and at some point will have to be replaced.

I had mine set on 2 recently and it was also hitting nicely for the strain I was using....only bumped it up to 3 at the end.

Also have noticed that with a screen in I don't get any particulates in the stem only a nice light oil which thanks to gravity seems to get heated up when I use it.

August West,
I've used the battery down to a single blip twice now today, and it's not even dark out. :uhoh:

Maybe I need treatment. I've noticed that less flavorful strains allows a distant, vaguely plasticky taste to become apparent. Nothing Vapir-esque or anything, but still noticable at times. If you put your schnoz up to the air ports on the top of the Solo and sniff, you'll get what I mean. I agree with others' findings that 2 is a great temperature to start with for most cases.

Edit: you can add "Whip Vaporizer" to the Solo's resume. The mouthpiece mates very easily to standard 7th floor tubing, and it works just fine as a dense hitting whip vape. Careful not to let the Solo fall over from the tension of the whip bending back and forth. And today's vaping required a total of 3 charges out of the Solo, plus two MW bowls.

Edit edit: Four charges. The last charge got 3 bowls on the last light blip for a total of 9, without dying. The single most impressive thing about this vape so far has been its efficiency paired with its dense hits. Tiny half pinches yield very impressive results, especially with the dual screen method I've been using - the Solo is a great vape for stretching your stash.

Ok, just vaped my first bowl with the solo...it is officially incredible, I will give a more in depth review later.

I have to ask though, am I the first one to get a stem that is too big to fit in the solo?! My stems being too loose is clearly not a problem, one still fits thank god...

So when will Arizer start to sell extra batteries so we can have an extra one charged for on the go? :)

has anyone tried to remove the battery yet?

here for the chicks
After a long day sitting by the mailbox waiting for nothing yesterday it is finally here, and it's sweet!

First impression & charging:

It's smaller than I expected and after what I read here the glass tubes are also a lot smaller than I expected. They also feel pretty sturdy for tiny glass tubes, almost a bit plasticy. I'm not really worried about breaking those if I pack 'm properly in my man-purse (yes, I gave in this summer and bought one just big enough to carry my Galaxy-Tab, sunglasses, camera, ear plugs and other paraphernalia).

Like Shadowlink I also have one tube that won't fit (it might if I push hard enough, but that would require more force than I feel comfortable using, so I'm not gonna try it) so I guess I do have a chance to test Vapoworld's after sales services after all. The other one pops in easily without feeling loose as it stays in place when the device is turned upside down, but it will turn around voluntarily when handling the Solo. I can see this becoming a little annoying at times in the future.

When I first put it on charge the lights 1 to 4 lit up so I guess it was about half full. Cleaned up the good glass stem and fitted it with a SSV screen (the only other vape I won or have owned so far) right away for a first try after charging which took about an hour and a half before the charging light turned to a solid green.

First bowl:

I roughly grounded up about 0.2 grams of really White Widow but could only get half of it in there without packing it which made for a loosely packed but full bowl. Then set the temperature to two and it was ready for a first hit within a minute or so. I got some mild but very tasty vapor so I immediately set it to 3 which proved more satisfying. After another 3 good hits I set it to 4 and bam, already up there in higher temp vaping judging by the taste and effects. Took it up to five after another two good hits which also gave me two good hits but now the hotter are started slightly irritate my throat. Needless to say I at least had to try all the setting just once, so up to six we went and after 3 more hits or so I started to taste an ever so slight popcorny taste. Time to hit 7! Immediately after putting it on 7 there was a loud beep and the damn thing quit on me.
At first I thought I got one with a bad battery or something but after a minute or so I realized I had reached to 12 minute limit

Turned it back on and took two hits at 7 but the heat at that point was kinda overshadowing the taste so I turned it back to down to 6 to drain the rest of the goodies out of my first Solo bowl. At this point (I'm writing this 'live' as I go along) I'm pretty much amazed that the device is still able get some vapor out of this tiny bowl. I got another 3 hits at 6 and then another 3 at 7 before I got to curious about the color of the ABV and turned it off to inspect the bowl.

This is what I ended up with:

minip1010542.jpg

I'm not sure if you're able to tell from the picture but half of it is very dark brown, close to black, and the other half is a bit more tan or golden. I should have taken a picture with the ABV still in the bowl so you guys could see, but logically the dark half was closest to the heater.

Conclusion:

Pardon my French, but after only using it once the only can thing I can say is, it's fucking awesome!

I lost count in there and I'm pretty vaked right now, but I roughly guess I got almost 20 good hits out of that little bit of weed and there was still some left if I would have given it a stir or two. Even though the hits may be slightly larger; I need at about twice that much for the same results with my SSV (standard heater cover, no mods). I did notice the device is a little slow in it's response to input of the buttons, that pushing two buttons at the same time to turn it on can be a little bit clumsy when impatiently holding a filled tube in the other hand, and the involuntary turning/swirling of the mouthpiece could be slightly annoying as well, but otherwise I think it does what it's suppose to do pretty well.

Heat up time is pretty good, heat retention is acceptable and the flavor and efficiency seems way above par. I do think Arizers quality control should up the ante just a little bit since not all glass stems seem to fit the device as well as they should, and I do think they should give us the option to turn off the 12 min time limit or even alter it to a preferred time on a future or updated model. And make a simple battery change possible and throw in a a car charger for this kind of pricing please while you're at it. Otherwise; thanks a lot for this nifty little device.

So far I'm happy, but of course we'll need to do a lot of testing :brow:
Now please sod off and leave me alone for few minutes so I can enjoy a second bowl all by myself, without this annoying typing bit putting me off, and perhaps I'll tell you soon how it performs with ungrounded nugs and some of this here oily dark black hash I got waiting to evaporate.

edit:
I really had a lot of fun testing the Solo yesterday, ended up doing an 11-bowl-evening. I'm also very surprised how much weed I still have left from the 3 grams I started with after that. After converting from smoking to vaping with the SSV I think I can finally bring down my consumption with this one. Also, this little vap is just so easy and fun to use that it really adds to the experience imo.

Just a few more things from the top of my head:

I wasn't to successful using hash in the Solo. I tried a thin layer between two screens at different positions in the bowl but I couldn't get a lot of visible vapor out of it. Perhaps it was the hash, perhaps it was my drawing speed that still needs more refinement with this vaporizer, perhaps it needs higher temps. It's to early to tell yet but so far I wouldn't call it ideal for concentrates.

I absolutely loved vapor-bonging with the Solo. Even though the clouds aren't as dense or rich in flavor as they can be with a large bowl on high temps in the SSV, the Solo still packs a pretty good punch and the lack of a whip is just so much more practical. I think I'm gonna buy another Ehle just to go with this vape. I already have a bend neck 500ml with ice notches and a carb hole and it works great with the SSV, but for this one I would like a slightly smaller one so it's easier to bring along with me on the road and this time I want one without carb hole or ice notches.

Oh, the Solo is also at least a little water proof I found, after having a pretty dumb incident which resulted in bong water entering the vape via the glass stem :o

My favorite thing is putting an ungrounded nug in the bowl and just vape away. I usually start at 4 or 5 and take it all the way up to 7 until my weed is evenly dark brown or as close to black as I can get it, stirring the bowl just once after the first two or three draws @ 6. To my surprise I take this one a little further than I normally do my SSV, the ABV is quit a bit darker then my SSV ABV. Yet I don't think it's possible to combust with the Solo, at least not with mine as I had several bowls on 7 for way over 12 minutes (which for me is just to short).

Oh, I don't have a Dremel so I did a little flint-napping on the two holes in my glass stem and made them just slightly bigger. It helps a bit with the air restriction, especially with a clogged up screen in there after an attempt at vaping hash.

Just wondering if everyone here is getting big clouds of vapor?.I'm not getting much clouding at all but it does get me nicely buzzed.I find my stems to be very snug fitting and so I got a really restricted draw which maybe is helping the vapor to stay down deeper for longer.Any thoughts?.
Glad you got your solo Agony.Vaposhop really are quick huh?.I live not far from them so I usually get stuff from them within a day and a half.

Kelblow,

The clouds are not as dense as with my SSV, but they sure are there if you start a bowl on setting 4 or 5. Let me hook it up to my Ehle for a better comparison and I'll get back to you on that one in a little while.

Shipping wasn't as quick as I hoped to be honest. Normally send one day means delivery the next day in our tiny country, but in this case it arrived an extra day later after I was told it was send for some reason. Could be a problem with the shipping company, could be Vaposhop, no way to tell because they didn't send me a tracking nr. But shipping was free so I'm not complaining about an extra day.

edit: whoah man, this thing rocks with a 500ml tube!

put it on 5 but should have put it at 6, took 2 hits, then 4 @ 6, stirred the bowl and took another 4 large hits on 7 and it still keeps going! Instant milk. Not as dense as with the SSV on higher temps (about 2 to 2:30 depending on the strain on mine) and also slightly less tastier, but still really really good and instant on as you don't end up sucking air for seconds before the good stuff starts coming in like with the SSV.

I think I'm keeping the Ehle but end up selling my SSV if the Solo keeps performing like this for a while.

In 3 bowls now, I'm way up there for sure. Time for a little diner and then try some concentrates :D
