You are correct. I have verified from Arizer that the glass is supposed to fit loose. The tight fitting ones are anomolies. Loose gives better airflow.

Upside down is for vapor bonging, so there is a big use for a tight fitting piece. And according to the youtube vid, you can get pretty damn milky hits with a tight piece too! Tight pieces also would prevent the glass from falling out, spillage of contents etc. With one hand I find it much to loose and "spinning around". I guess ideally you would want a loose AND tight fitting piece.

For all those that are going to start receiving their Solos please let us know if you have the tighter piece, because I thought I was in the minority based on what i've read here and seen in the vids.

Also confirmed best storage of the unit is with battery about 30% which I think battery university states.

Willeh said:
I find with a screen in the unit, and using it drawing from the bat directly without a water filter, there is almost no 'milkshake' or restrictive effect. You can comfortably inhale a little faster than a normal breath of air, and get nice large clouds.

Once again in regards to the 'loose' fitting bats they're intended to be! I honestly do not see what the issue is, it's really easy to use with one hand just tip it so the mouth piece spins to you and then suck. It would seem they are intended to wiggle, especially as there is a corner with no airflow hole to tip it in. I got a freakishly fat one by sheer luck, and I don't try and tip the thing upside down. It honestly doesn't affect use and I haven't used my fat one in a long time, for no good reason. They are the same.

i've got both a tight and a slightly loose mouthpiece. i use the loose one... you can gently wobble the solo which moves the stem and loosens the contents a bit. with this method, a nice even draw (vacuum lips aren't helpful) and not packing product too tight, i don't need a screen as minimal compacting occurs. my tight one is a bit too tight and i feel like i'm gunna break it when i have to twist it on. i much prefer the loose one.
i got the silver coloured one.
the floss replacing tooth cleaning things like piksters http://www.piksters.com/content/pikster-sizes are perfect for between soak cleaning of the little holes and edges of the mouthpiece bowl (get the bigger ones) and are only about 10c each. you possibly know the things by another brand name.

Well looks like Arizer will have to re-write their manuals for the Solo because it indicates that the optional a/c adapter WILL be a charger too.

That code has not worked for some time now. And FC will no longer be informing dealers about non functional discount codes. It's their responsibility to make sure it works.

Fixed.

Solo Updates:

It is possible for the User to purchase and replace the battery if necessary. A battery replacement service will be offered as well for those who are not comfortable with doing the work.

The optional 'charger' will not be a charger, just an Ac adapter to use to power your unit. Charging the unit and using it at the same time would be devastating to the life of the battery.

Has anyone had any luck with the potporri bowl or use essential oils? I have it set at 7 with almost no scent coming off of it. I can't imagine that the glass piece would be any better considering its bowl size. I'm assuming that the potporri bowl is just a "cover" for international shipping? I remember that being the case with the classic v-tower. Only the EQ is great for it because of the fan.

Also did a close examination of the glass pieces. My 2 pieces do fit a bit differently. One is quite loose/wobbly, and the other although still not "tight" must be a tad bit bigger cuz it doesn't wobble as much. The potporri bowl is as loose as my looser stem.

I have also started to now notice some sort of electrical type burning smell coming out the heater if I sniff it. Is this some kind of off gassing? I'm not sure if I really noticed before, but how warm do your units get in the upper heat range (6 or 7)? Mine doesn't get hot, but it does get pretty damn warm...i'm assuming this is normal. Just a little concerned about this electrical or almost like burning dust type smell.

I also noticed some electrical type burning at first.. but it goes away after a few sessions.

What temperature's have people been using?

I'm finding that anything above 3 is a bit too hot for my liking, and have settled on level 2 as my standard. At this temp the bowls are completely "browned" to a level I'm happy with. I've tried a bowl at level 6 and it felt very close to combustion, though the bowl was still brown when I checked.

Funny cause on other vapes I've always thought I was a high temp vaper and I was expecting to be closer to the top of the temperature range on the Solo, not at the bottom. I kinda wish there were some lower temps.

Is this consistent with others experience? I'm assuming there will be temp differences between individual units but have I perhaps got a unit on the hot end of the scale?

This vape farkin rocks though. I love it. The clouds it blows are huge and I'm getting soo many pulls off each stem that it's confusing!?! I find it very easy to pull a full lungs worth, it's nothing like the restriction of a log vape. I also can't see the battery life being as good as is claimed. One 12 minute session at lvl 2 seems to use one bar of power. I just plug it in to charge when I'm done vaping so it won't bother me anyways. :peace:

I use the entire range typically but it depends what i'm looking for....typically though i'm around 4-5 for my favourite temps but I too sometimes start at 2 or 3 for a bit lighter vapor and then go right up to 7 even. You don't have to worry about combusting...won't happen. However I did "forget" about a fresh bowl once on I think 5 or 6, and came back 10 minutes later to a pretty close to charred bowl of herb! lol It also stunk!

Well so much for the tolerance break...lasted 5 days, but serious couldn't sleep for a minute and couldn't take it anymore. I can now say that I think I like the looser glass pieces... they don't fall out unless I tip them COMPLETELY upside down and the airflow is very good.

You're right about the battery life....it drops a light per session pretty much, but that's fine with me. This thing is just awesome. That being said, I also went back to the EQ for a bit on elbow packs only (used to only rip massive bowl amounts) and was pretty impressed with that again too (unreal air flow, fan assist).

I hope this company stays around forever!! Can't say enough good stuff about the Solo AND EQ!!

Oh, I think the Solo is a bit more delicate than I thought... have a couple of nicks/chips in it already from it falling over once or I hit something with it, but it still functions flawlessly.

I hope the mail strike ends so you droooling bastards can see! :)

First impressions are good. So far, have prefered no screen and slightly packing the load down. This thing doesn't hit as hard as an SSV, LSV or Epic vape ect. But, still nice thick from a portable. More to come.

I have been getting thicker and thicker clouds out of this thing as my technique gets better, and it easily matches my EQV in performance on the first hit. Usually I heat it to seven with the stem on, unpacked for 5 minutes. Then I absolutely powder the shit out of my herbs with a 2-piece spacecase, and pack it into the pre-heated stem with a little spoon, and tapping the sides of the bat to settle the powder. You get much bigger clouds with a screen, and slightly moist, completely powdered, lightly packed herbs. You can fit more herbal mass than if it was little chunks, and it penetrates it much more thoroughly. I push the center of the screen all the way down right between the holes but it lifts the corners, and then no herbs can directly obstruct the holes, and it all gets heated evenly. I then let the herbs warm up on the unit for 15-25 seconds before taking a long deep draw. I can usually get almost the entire bat in that one hit, and it is deadly thick similar to any other desktop setup I have used. I also was not satisfied with how coarsely ground/nugget bowls barely get cooked at the back, but they are kind of required to not 'suck through the holes'.

I have never actually combusted using the unit on seven, and I generally use it on seven when I use a water attachment. The ABV comes out medium brown, but when packed right very thorough without stirring. When I use it without a water attachment I walk it up to seven from 3. You could get it much darker out of a dabuddha, but you could also ignite it.

The screen does require being plucked out and cleaned here and there though it's well worth it.

So is there any differance in how restrictive the airflow is from sucking on the stem on its own to sucking through it when connected to the Solo? From what I have heard, restictive air path seems to be the biggest downside with this unit, just want to know if this is purely due to the design of the stem, if so maybe it should be redisgned so a screen is required.

I got my Solo a few days ago, the first day UPS didn't even ring and just left the notice, I was so pissed I called to complain and they said maybe he'd come a 2nd time but they called back to say it would only come the next day. This time I made sure to open the front windows to hear the truck.

Well either my Q was still defective or the Solo is infinitely more efficient because after one load I was at "I can't take any more" while with the Q after 3 loads in a row with little effect (yet as much visible vapor) I had concluded it was my tolerance but it didn't make much sense either as I had never had so little effect as I got from the Q and I've been using vaporizers for well over 5 years. Let's just say I won't be missing the Q whatsoever, except maybe for the essential oil diffusing feature but that's not the reason for getting a vape.

Some replies say you can breathe at a more than normal rate through your Solo? That is FAR from the case with mine, mine is actually not differentiable from holding my breath with my mouth closed and nose pinched, I cannot detect any airflow whatsoever when I inhale, but obviously there a very, very slow flow as I then exhale vapor. I noticed tilting the glass a bit does increase airflow, but I came to like the very slow highly restricted flow as it seems to provide a better, richer extraction, similar to making espresso instead of coffee.

BTW do your solos have the 4 small holes in the heater at the "corner" where the cylindrical opening meets the bottom? Isn't this a weird place to have the holes as they end up on the other side of the glass when you insert it so the glass blocks the airflow. Wouldn't it have made more sense to put these holes closer to the center where the hot air is on the right side of the glass? This is why tilting the glass improves airflow so much.

Oh yea, to answer the questions some asked:
-I got mine in silver with the black control panel
-Both my glass thingies are loose and I have no problem with that, I think a snug one would bother me, and it's easy to hold the glass with a finger even if holding it with one hand
-When set to higher temps for a while, the top outside of the unit does get very warm, nearly hot, this is normal, don't forget it's over 400 degrees less than half an inch away

Definitely, it's the Solo that restricts the flow, not the 2 holes or them getting clogged. Tilting the stem a bit does improve airflow, but at the expense of a less rich extraction. As I explained above the restricted flow make the equivalent of an espresso while the EQ with it's free airflow is more of a drip coffee. I much prefer to leave my stem flat to restrict the airflow until you can't even detect any airflow at all, which provides a very rich and dense vapor. The restricted airflow is more than likely intentional and necessary due to the power limitations of a portable. Think about it, it would take 5 times more energy to heat the air if it was flowing 5 times faster. Arizer did a very good move in restricting the airflow so much. In fact that may be why I rarely felt any effect using my Q, perhaps I was just inhaling too fast resulting in poor extraction, with the Solo, this bad habit is forced to end because I can't inhale fast so for me this is a huge benefit. Come to think of it, I think the Q only affected me the few times that the airflow felt restricted (don't know exactly why it was sometimes more restricted, didn't seem to be the screen).

after a week or so solo... for me this works,
ive settled on no screen
do not pack at all, just fill. loose is good; i choose to put gear through the grinder once only, too fine a mull blocks the holes too quickly plus the aftervape is great for sleeping dragon.
do not suck too hard, it just compacts the gear (something you won't often hear in bed).
a great device... all ya gotta do is work your method. the above works for me.

I have been thinking about why the vapor seems superior to other vapes. What all the pictures fail to show is what I have only seen on the solo. The elbow bowl is inserted into the vape. Inside the heating element I believe surrounds all sides of the bowl. I believe this heats the weed uniformly all at the same time.

For example on my EQ I have it set to 215C. After the bowl is spent, the PVB is brownish with some green specs. On my solo, I don't need to set it higher then 4. The PVB is dark milk chocolate colored.

My biggest complaint of the Solo so far is it's portability. While it's fantastic around the house and hotel rooms on trips, it's not great for being on a hike or a walk in the park. I wouldn't take it snowboarding like I did my IOLite. The glass mouthpiece and lack of a good carry case makes it sketchy as an "active lifestyle" portable.

The main thing about the Solo, is that you are sacrificing ZERO on vapor Quality in this portable unit. No other portable I know can claim that. By far my favorite vaporizer to date.

My snug bat is now too snug to comfortably slide in due to some resin build up on the sides of my solos heater. When it's in, it's in; and it requires some spinning to get out. The airflow is harder to suck on as it does not wiggle and is actually airtight. It is now impossible to tip around for optimal airflow so you need to keep it 1/100th of an inch or so off the hotplate, so I prefer my other loose one but will keep this one for vaporbonging as you could easily shake it upside down without it falling out.

To anyone experiencing tight airflow, tipping the bat into the back-left corner makes the airflow equivalent to using the bat with no herbs in it at all if you pack it right. I encourage you all to unscrew the top and get a close look inside at your heating element. You'll notice the back left corner does not have an airflow hole but the other 3 do. The back left corner is the one you want to tip your bowl into for optimal heated airflow. Doing so makes the airflow significantly less restrictive at the same time.

I'm surprised no one has adopted my screen idea. I found that without powdering your herbs, the heat wouldn't properly penetrate the bowl and the bowls would come out way too light. The vapor to air ratio was not that great either. For a while I powdered and packed loose, but my bat was extremely dirty within a week, to the point where airflow was very restricted on the inside. On top of that, the weed actually obstructs the holes when it can touch them, causing the airflow to restrict further unnecessarily. I also found particulates getting sucked through when you powdered to be unacceptable not only for efficiency but hard on the throat, and annoying. I have not had to clean either bat since putting screens in them, and all they have is a light amber oil coating as opposed to a ton of particulates that should of been vaped. I once again recommend a screen and powdering your herbs with a high quality grinder like a spacecase or mendo mulcher. My avb has gone from only being a light yellow at the back, to black all the way through, the airflow is always the same as if the bat was un packed, I never lose anything to getting sucked through or get that in my mouth, and I can fit more vapor-making material in the bowl at once.

Lastly, one last tip for big hits is let the thing heat a full cycle on 7 with (or without) the bat in it before you use it. It makes a world of difference, as the body of the unit holds heat it gets more heat retention and the results are obvious in your avb and vapor::air. With everything right this vape makes massive clouds with fairly little restriction.

Are you saying your Solo has only 3 holes? Mine has 4 one at each corner, are you sure it isn't just blocked with a spec of herb (which is highly likely if you grind fine)? It happened on one of the 4 holes on mine and it can make the hole nearly invisible. I'd be a bit worried about clogging those hole with a powder fine grind like you mentioned.

Also, are the holes on yours on the very edge/corner where the bottom meets the sides? I find this a weird place to put the holes as they are on the wrong side of the glass.

@abb1, that is correct, my back left corner does not have an actual hole. I am using a magnifying glass and very bright light. My holes on the front left, and back right, are also slightly smaller than my front right hole. This all seems to make sense to tip it to the back left corner. I'm yet to see any of them clog, I'm sure the airflow and heat would very much prevent that. Anything touching that heating element would get charred down and the air is fighting to go up and through the bowl. I've only seen great benefits to a proper grind in this, and any other vaporizer.

edit: Wait, you said "Your EQ" has 4 holes, surely you meant solo?

Willeh,

Sorry I did mean my Solo, mine has 4 holes all 90 degrees apart. Are yours also at the corner of where the bottom and side walls meet?

Can every other Solo owner post the number of holes and their location? Is this another inconsistency with the Solo? And missing an airflow hole is not a small inconsistency. Perhaps you might want to have it exchanged as it's in theory blocking your airflow 25% more than it already should be.

Yes, they are all dug into the corners. I have absolutely no complaints about airflow, and unlike you I do not find there to be 'no airflow' when I toke it. I can easily suck faster than the heater can handle. I am certain it is as it is designed. Are you sure theres a hole in your top left corner, and not just a little notch? Yes, they're all 90 degrees apart, save for the one that's not a real hole. Unlike you though, I can not 'detect no airflow' when I hit this thing. I find it significantly less restrictive than the purple days or magic flight vaporizer. I think you are feeling no airflow you need to pack the thing lighter, in the very least.

Ok so it finally came today after tracking it thru the weekend on its journey from Canada. First impressions....well packaged and really love the look and feel of this thing. (got silver with silver face plate) They definitely need a bag or something for the price and the quality of it but I will find one on my own. So I unwrapped it and immediately put it on charge and waited a couple of hours till it was a solid green. My glass pieces fit loose for those that are wondering. It doesn't seem to be a problem as long as you handle it appropriately. I loaded up some UK Cheese and was on my way. Not a huge amount in the stem probably about 2-3 one hits worth for those that remember the days of combustion. I started on setting 2 and after watching the lights flash and waiting a few minutes I was AMAZED at the nice cloud I got. The taste was pure. I bumped it up to 3 and got another huge hit.....almost made me "scared" to try out 7. Well not really but 3 seemed just fine so I didn't bother. Every toke had decent flavor too. Obviously the first couple are the best but it was fairly consistent.
The draw was ok....you can see and feel what's coming thru the stem so it didn't seem to be a problem. I'm liking the auto shut off after 12 minutes too since this thing can get you so baked you might forget its on. Battery life is a concern since it has to require some serious power to heat up like it does but I will find out more about that as I use it. I really like this thing....no actually love this thing. It is a welcome addition to the family of portable vapes that are out there. Yes it's a pricey but you do get what you pay for and you can tell this thing has been in the works for awhile and they seem to have gotten it right. The FC10 discount made it seem ok too. Thanks for that.

Arizer Solo....PAMFLB....broken down Iolite that they will not fix and even if they decide to it's too late because I LOVE MY ARIZER SOLO
