So does anyone actually have a bad short term memory?

It's obvious cannabis use is associated with short term memory loss, so I was curious how many here actually have a bad short term memory? Cannabis has improved my overall memory and concentration in the long run, but I will admit that my short term memory isn't too hot. What about you?

I do feel that my short term memory is impaired when I'm high, and maybe one day after. After that though I don't notice much in the ways of short term memory loss.

I feel that my short term memory has been affected by cannabis use, Though I feel it most when I am not medicated... :/

Cannabis use has been associated with short term memory loss while a subject is under the influence. There has never been a credible link between cannabis use and sustained memory loss over long periods of time.

That's not to say that some of us haven't had our memories worsen over time. It just probably isn't the cannabis that did it.

depends a lot what it is
for example I often forget unimportant stuff like what I had for dinner hyesterday or what I put on my bread yesterday's breakfast
but other then that not really

Yeah I would say that cannabis has definitely effected my short term memory. It sucks in a way, because it is harder for me to build full sustained memories when I am high more. It's weird to me but I don't know if I like it. Cannabis may have to become one of those things that I use less often in the future because now the past feels more like a haze and I don't know if I am comfortable with that yet.. Anyone feel this way?

well the past is kind of a haze for me, I remember it but don't remember details and how I felt at the time, but I never saw weed as a reason for that
also not a problem at all, my present easily beats my past, in the present I'm doing pretty well and everything is awesome, in the past there were some rougher periods(for exaple one period that, in hindsight, I think I was in a depression or mild depression, altough I didn't think so at the time)

I never notice any short term or long term memory loss. I'm usually the one reminding my friends in the circle "wait whats was I talking about?".

What is often overlooked in this discussion is that many users overcompensate in areas where they perceive a cognitive deficiency -- thus, when high, I make concerted efforts to properly encode thoughts into my memory. I, too, cannot remember unimportant details, like yesterday's lunch -- but i believe this speaks to prioritization in memory encoding.

In my experience it's just stuff that my brain (whilst high) obviously just doesn't deem important enough to sacrifice memory-space that slips by the wayside. Usually just small things like going off on a tangent then not remembering where the conversation started etc.

Think it can be summed up well by this Bill Hicks quote (read memory-loss for unmotivated):
They lie about marijuana. Tell you pot-smoking makes you unmotivated. Lie! When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well. You just realize that it's not worth the fucking effort. There is a difference.

Agree it's all about prioritization - depends what your particular brain feels is necessary to hold on to, which will of course be different when sober or stoned.

I would say it's definitely affected my short-term memory. Sometimes, If I'm talking and someone interrupts me before I complete my story, I forget what we were talking about, even when I'm not high. I'm about to start a really long break from weed. I'm interested in seeing if it gets better.

I am on day 3 of Tbreak after a few years of use and I know what you guys mean about everything being a haze. I like watching shows at night and remembering the details the next day instead of my mind going on tangents the whole time. I'm finally ready to stop using everyday I think. I want to just have some days or nights a week where its more a spiritual thing. It was becoming BLAH doing it everyday. Not to mention my overall energy was less and I was always hungry. But that's just me. I have a really sensitive body.

I have a rather good memory, short and long term, I feel. I do forget things, but not in any particular pattern. Sometimes its as simple as an item my wife shouts out last minute on a trip to the store, or the name of the actor in that movie last nite. Sometimes it may be the first 3 digits of a phone number I;ve called many times before. But overall, I feel my memory is very good, and I have used for over 20 years.
I have many friends who all use and have varying degrees of how "good" short or long term memory is. I think most of it is genetic. But in the last decade, look at how much "most" of us consume data. Internet usage and consumption has to play some sort of game with our memories and what or how much we are able to retain. I once read an article that claimed the average American consumes something like the equivalent of 180 newspapers worth of data a day. Some of this is "chosen", i.e., like reading a book, some not, billboards, pop-up ads, ads on your ps3, etc. I have to think the brain is evolving to deal with all the extra "data", maybe that's why I can't remember an actors name in a movie I watched less than 24 hours ago sometime, but why when I participated in fantasy football, I could spout off all the useless stats of the weekend. How are our minds "sifting" thru all of this data to determine what, if any is worth remembering. Did you ever lose a loved one and attempt to picture them in your mind, but not be able to. But if I gave you 4 pictures of people, I bet you'd pick them out right away. But then why couldn't I picture them in my mind a moment earlier?

Weird stuff, this memory...

i have thought on this before and feel its related to the issue of trying to remember life revelation or epiphanies when returning to baseline...your state is altered when vaped, to even describe something such as "short term memory" which has relevance in baseline may not have much meaning when altered. it very well could be (as wilf789 was mentioning) a means of isolating important parts from non important things and either keeping or dumping them.

my "short term memory loss" experience is usually best described in terms of a floating particle in the ocean. as the particle rises with a wave i can see it (remember it) but when the wave goes down i lose it temporarily until the wave rises again...ie, memory (as well as thought) tends to change as if riding waves. for a while ive been referring to it as my "little bit ago memory" as im often aware of things a little bit ago a little bit after they happen, and is repeated.

that's my current view on it, im sure i over analyzed it as usual. :peace:

But seriously..

I vape a lot...and i don't think my short term memory is that bad. I'm still very sharp at work and i remember all calls for my boss etc.

However, when i am vaked..i forget a lot of shit.
Like my MFLB brush at my friends..

Oh yeah.. and sometimes i manage to hide weed for myself :peace:

I've done this a couple of times. I somehow manage to find the greatest hiding places when I'm high. So great in fact that I can only find it months later.

We have a part in our brain which function is to forget... :) .. MJ highjacks your brain neural paths and starts to activate different parts and alters sensations in anothe point of view :D

What exactly do i feel :) .?
Well. I sometimes may have bad short term memory but i feel that benefits my long term..
When i am high i feel raise in the picture quality,., Welcome to the HD world :). So the files i have to remember are bigger so they need more memory space.. MJ reacts also as a archivator program on my brain.. It compresses my memories like Winzip for exaple and it just takes more time to decompress the file.. But i get a higher quality :) of memories.. more vivid, full of details etc..

I only experience short term memory loss if I am extremely baked and talking amongst a group of people. I tend to have trouble remembering what I was going to say, because I choose not to interrupt people most of the time.

Then again, I usually keep the conversation going by telling the story teller "what was I saying?"

I definitely experienced worse memory loss when I was drunk, like not remember anything at all.

My short term memory is at about the same level it was a few years ago before I started using cannabis. I have what I would designate as a good memory... until I enter a different room to do/get something and I forget what I went in said room to do. I've been bad for that since I was a child though
