The WISPR vaporizer

Agreed. I tend to grind for performance and accept shorter time between cleanings. I find the cleaning no big deal at all and think I'd ultimately do it even if the fouling was very modest.

Again, the idea is to get good vapor. Other stuff takes importance after that.

Yeah cleaning that thing is easy. It is just ruining the sesh. I actually switched back to not the fine screen. It doesn't get clogged as easy and I never have noticed that i am inhaling stuff. Weird and illogical I know. Fuck Yeah just remembered the WISPR is in my pocket. Work day is looking up!!!

Exactly my experience. Back to the biggest mesh screen that doesn't pass junk, look at it when I change bowls, it easy to see it start to build up. When it needs it (or is getting close) take a minute or two then (or make a mental note to do it next time). Sooner or later you have to stop for gas anyway. I see noting illogical about it, do the test, go with the results you want.

As far as making work better with your unit, I can only offer you some advice: If you remove that 'going to work' part from the testing, a whole new world opens up to you. I really really recommend retirement.

@OF - If you plan on ordering the thermo, could you maybe write a short review about the differences and similarities between the WISPR and the ThermoVape? :)

No, I have a couple of Iolites (one backup), and have broken in a pair for friends. I'm OK with not having the WISPR as I like the shape and weigh it so I know how much fuel is left (3 grams total, 1.5 max a bowl).

And yes, I caved on the TV.

Sorry about the office bit (I used to do that, but I didn't really like it....they had to pay me). Way I see it every day off is practice for your coming retirement, right?

Only if you send me a WHSPR. I'll sure check it out against Iolite (basically the same beast), MFLB, the Omicron (my current toy de jur), the PD and any of the others I give less use to. I suspect it'll do some things better, some not so. Life is a trade off......

Fer sure I won't be shy, not to worry.

ome back ground info on my vap experience

i have owned a
  • Volcano
    SSV
    Da Buddah
    iOlite[/*]

I followed the iolite in the early days. I preordered it the minute it appeared on GV.
I LOVE LOVE my iolite. I used it in places i would only dream about medicating. I was able to medicate in my car with out it wreaking of the smell. Naturally, i was very excited about the Wispr. Since i already had my iolite v2 and i was happy with it, i decided to wait to purchase the wispr after they work out any bugs and possibly get a lower price.

ordering experience from puffitup
I took some extra christmas money and ordered a wispr from PuffitUP. I was able to use the FC discount to save extra dough. I had some trouble with the payment because of paypal, and my order was delayed. I was able to talk to the customer service when ever i needed to directly on their website. I only had to wait once to get a response. After i replaced my correct order, their customer service department contacted me and wanted to make sure i had everything sorted. To me this little thing made me a lifetime customer from puffitup. I received my order today. The shipping was quick and discreet. The company name doesn't show anywhere on the box. And the alternate company isnt suspicious when googled.

My order was just a wispr. What i received was
  • Wispr
2 Fullsized Cans of refined Butance
    1 Metal Grinder [4 piece]
    2 Plastic Screwtop Containers[/*]

Those two cans of butane and grinder easily is a free 40$ gift.

wispr review

So a couple of quick points on why this vape is awesome
PROS
*heats up super quick (within 1-2 cycles, usually you can take a hit after the first cycle)
*bowl fits more
*butane guage allows you to see how much is left

CONS
*stem is shorter, so the hits are hotter
*it is harder to turn off and on comapred to the orignal iolite

Now i was going to provide a full review, but im having trouble with my wispr. After some longer sessions, i noticed that even after i had turned it off it was still heating up. The only way to get it to turn off is to expell all the butane. I am going to contact the company who made it and see what the best course of action

I solved the hot vapor short stem issue by getting some whip tubing and making a few inch extension. Fits perfect. Cools great

I went to home depot and i got 25ft of tubing (7/16) for 5$. Cools down the vapor to point where i dont feel it. Thanks for the tip! this its a little floppy but thats not too big of a deal.

Im still having trouble turning it on and off on occasion. It's definitely after longer sessions. I contacted o and b and still haven't gotten a response, im going to message PUffitup to see how i should procede

What do you mean trouble? If I run a long session on it. It seems to have one extra cycle in it. But that is the only problem I have ever noticed. Oh And you are using 25 feet at once of tubing?

haha i should of specified, i cut the tubing into about a 6IN section. a 25ft stem would be hilarious though.

After a long session, it wont stop cycling. One time it went for about 30 min with out turning off, so i just expelled all the butane. Ill have a longer session tonight, so ill see what happens

The wispr shouldn't cycle at all after you push the switch up and off. We've seen a few here that aren't turning off and it looks like you have one. Use the warranty and get a repair/replacement. It's going to continue to give you problems.

Max well his unit for sure seems broken. I am uncertain if you own one of these. But I know you are the Mod man. I have been using mine every day for about 2 months. I don't think my unit is defective in anyway. I will say that on occasion when i engage in a long long session, after I push the switch up it will still undertake one tiny brief partial heating cycle. I don't really think that is a defect. Other times when it hasn't been say running for over 20 minutes it shuts right off.

I do own one. And actually I'm an admin, but we also have another admin (and forum owner-vtac), super mod (stickstones), and four other mods, so moderating takes place when I'm not here. ;)

If that's as bad as it gets, I wouldn't worry about it either, but not shutting off seems to be a particular problem with this model, due to the different type of switch vs. the iolite I guess. If a unit is failing to shut off, even sometimes, I don't think it's gonna get any better, and I'd certainly want to get it fixed or replaced.

Yeah. I don't think there is anything wrong with mine. I never had an Iolite. So I don't know what the cycling there was. But it sounds like it would cycle quite a bit. This is a brief thing and I assumed it was just related to heat build up and how the unit tells itself to keep heating. Maybe some sort of spring? Either way I do agree the mechanism for turning this unit off seems like its weakest point and the point most likely to break!

I had a chance to stop by the WISPR booth at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas yesterday and I had a nice long conversation with Ciaran Oglesby of O&B there. We discussed several topics including O&B's history, the WISPR vs Iolite, and we spent some time discussing current competitor's models (mosty Arizer & S&B). I asked him if O&B had new products in the works and he said that they are always working on new and exciting products to offer. The most interesting part of our discussion (to me at least) was when I asked him if they were working on any non-butane based vaporizers. He stopped for a moment before responding, but finally simply said "yes" with a wry smile on his face. He wouldn't give any further details. :uhoh:

We spent some time discussing FC and it's importance to the vaporizer industry. He had some very nice things to say about FC, specifically how he had such kind words to say about Vtac and Max. I asked why he had no presence here and he told me quite bluntly the reason. He said he would love to be an active contributor/manufacturer here on FC, but that for legal reasons here in the US (I'm pretty sure he specifically mentioned the FDA), he was forced to stay away from FC and was clearly upset that he couldn't even explain why to the members here. As most of you know, vaporizers are not what this company is really known for. I imagine that in order to have a "clean" reputation for a company to do business in the US, one must make certain sacrifices. He did say (in fact he suggested) that I could share that information with the FC community. He clearly has much respect for this board, even though legal issues prevent him participating.

He was a genuinely nice guy and he seemed to really appreciate my interest and feedback about his products and that of other vaporizers that I own or have tried.

:peace:

Ciaran is the 'face of O&B', when it comes to the vaporizer division (nice to see the real 'face' though-thanks for the pic). He was the one posting here and answering questions. He's been very helpful to us on the forum, as far as providing info, and also helpful to members with problems. We had a lot of good, informational posts from him, but once they decided that their participation could be detrimental to the company. I ended up deleting all the empty posts, since the content had been edited out. The iolite thread now has some holes, because of it. But I believe they were the first big established company to post here as a vape maker, and their contribution is much appreciated.

Thanks for the informative post Stu. It's very much appreciated.

hi guys - so seems after three months with my green wispr the butane case inside decided it wanted to crack and now is non functioning... a copy of my credit card statement proving i did indeed make the purchase isn't good enough for iolite customer service... they demand the receipt from point of purchase... this of course made me call them all sorts of evil names and i think i also wished they all dropped dead of cancer... a bit extreme i know... is there a fix or am i fucked? thanks, frank

I'm going to recommend that you contact them and ask for a service fee schedule.
Surely they are willing to provide service out of warranty.
Unless you can contact the seller for a duplicate receipt... it seems you are between a rock and a hard place.
Try Wispr Service Request
Your unit will be of no use without this repair, and the choices appear to be...
-pay for repair.
-open unit yourself, and see if the butane feed is attached correctly.
-give unit away to a friend that will have to pay for the repair.
Opening the unit will not void the warranty since there is none.
You are welcome to come by and we can open the unit together.

The last official word from O&B was that sellers don't have to be authorized sellers in order for the buyer to get warranty service. So it should just be a matter of getting a sales receipt from your seller. I don't know why you don't have one, since a receipt is almost always required for warranty service, but I can't imagine the seller, assuming he is a retailer and not just joe blow who happens to have a brand new wispr for sale, would object to supplying you with a receipt.

If you did buy from someone who sells vapes, and this wasn't just a one of a kind deal from a guy who also bought retail (possibly classifying your buy as a 'used purchase'), and he can't or won't supply you with a receipt for service purposes, send me an email and I may be able to help you get warranty service. There's certainly no doubt that all wisprs are within the warranty period. In the future though, I'd avoid cussing out company employees. They're usually just following directions and doing what they're told. They don't make the rules.

mflb didn't make me jump thru hoops like this. who hoards receipts anymore? why can't they just say oh here's a guy that clearly purchased this from a retailer... says so on my credit card statement... why isn't my credit card statement sufficient? seriously i'd love to know... and are warranty requests such a burden that they have to be pricks about not helping a customer?

Magic Flight is the exception to warranty service, not the norm. They'll replace your unit as long as you have it, as many times as it takes, even if you screw it up yourself. If you expect to see this policy with most other companies, you'll be disappointed.

who hoards receipts anymore?
You call it hoarding. Everyone else calls it saving the receipt in case you need warranty service. Anymore? Why do you imply that needing a receipt for proof of purchase isn't necessary these days? The vast majority of companies require it. Your attitude makes me think you have very limited experience with requesting warranty service.

are warranty requests such a burden that they have to be pricks about not helping a customer?
Under your system companies would be repairing/replacing stolen merchandise for the thief, free of charge. And you're over the line with your name calling. Doesn't matter whether the manufactuer is posting here or not. It certainly qualifies as offensive. You may need to review our rules page.

Don't attack products or companies. You can post your opinion, and you can criticize, but posts written to offend are not allowed.

shuttup max. my offensive words were in an email not on this board. and i don't want to return the wispr i want it to work. just because i didn't save my receipt doesn't mean that o&b couldn't have been helpful. stop schilling for the man max. it's people like you that stick up for the 1% that makes me need to go medicate.
