The WISPR vaporizer

Yeh I mean its not louder than the iolite but still noticeable, My main concern is that it lasts, I don't mind the noise just put my music up and i won't even tell.

How often do you guys refill the WISPR? Like at what point when its upside down?

I am the Dungeon Master of you.
I have been avoiding making a post in the official WISPR thread because I am still at a mixed opinion phase. I have some big concerns but still love this device. I am going to make lists rather than get all discombobulated and lose you in paragraphs. I have owned two different units and used a friend's quite heavily for a device that has only been available for the short time it has been.

Cons:
After two weeks unit #1 started leaking fluid from bottom.
After one week unit #2 stopped igniting completely.
Having to purchase butane.
Due to the slow burn nature sharing it is a patience game.

Pros:
When it is operational I am stoned off head for entire day by taking small, infrequent sips.
My consumption decreased by more than half.
The gas sound was insignificant at distances further than 10 feet if there was any background noise.
It was stealthy enough to Vape in a few different movie theaters.
My hands were warm.
The manufacturer opened a Canadian depot for warranty repair so crossing customs is not an issue.

I loved my WISPR. I am hoping the two that I sent in for warranty were just very bad luck. I will update when the third unit arrives in my hand.

Zed,
Depending on how many times you use it in a day, I use it once or twice a day and I have to refill it at least once every couple days but if you use it more than that you will need to refill everyday by the end of the day most likely in my opinion, but when turning it upside down to check the level I usually refill once I see there's 3 or 4 drops left or if it's empty .

Mine works as long as you can see any butane in the window at all (you can also view the fuel level by turning it sideways, although not in both directions). You can refill any time you like. Having the fuel window means you know when it's a good idea to refill, unlike with the iolite, where you're always topping it off because you can't remember when you filled it last, or how much you've used it since then. IMO this gauge is the #1 improvement over the iolite, although others may prefer the mouthpiece upgrade or thicker hits, etc.

Wow. I'd say the only way your luck could have been worse is if both units were DOA.

I compared the wispr to the iolite yesterday, as far as noise level. The sound may be a little more muted with the iolite, since the wispr's housing is more open, for heat ventilation. The tone of the sound is a little different, most likely due to the different housing, but the noise level is about the same. Holding the wispr in such a way that you dampen the noise, does make a difference, but you don't want to close off all the ventilation. Holding it tightly can also dampen the switch noise, especially when turning it off.

After using the iolite yesterday for the first time since I got the wispr, I'd say both units suffer from the taste issue, and probably seems worse with the wispr due to a little better air flow. When you hit the wispr, the draw is a little less restricted, giving you more hot air per hit. I'm going to try easing up on my draw speed with the wispr and see if that makes a difference.

Agreed. I am frustrated by it. My best friend ordered a WISPR the day he heard they shipped mine(he didn't wan to languish in the 3 month preorder debacle I did) and received his a few days later than me. It has worked flawlessly the entire time he has had it.

I am wondering if it just couldnt handle my schedule. I was turning it off from about 3am to 8 am and then running it 19 hours to keep me perfectly positioned. Whatever the deal, they have a fair warranty, I jus need a proper backup. Even though I change my mind every 15 minutes I am looking at adding an MFLB with power adaptor to my work stable.

The flavor from my WISPR was consistent per bowl. The first pull after letting my herbs sit in the heat for a couple heating cycles tasted like a mouthful of tasty goodness and then the rest of the hoots were thick but somewhat neutral flavored.

Heh well if you've noticed I am being pretty patient about it. But I do follow the suggestions like shutting it off and letting it cool down between fills, I also let each fill sit for ten minutes or more before reigniting. If it wasn't suggesting for hard use it should have a warning.

I just think they need cross ship RMA so I don't have to revert to becoming a smoker when my WISPR dies next time.

Leaving a unit on all day shouldn't cause a leak or the issue of not turning on. If someone was switching one on and off a hundred times a day, I'd still expect it to last a whole lot longer than a week. This kind of operation is unusual, but certainly not outside the realm of possibility, and I'm sure they put units through worse before shipping out production units.

I'd say you're doing fine, except for using up a lot of butane. There's no way you wore out the switch on one in a week, and yours is the first report I've heard of any leaking with a wispr or iolite. I do think you'd be better off just turning it on when you want a hit or two. It reaches vaping temp in a minute.

I made the transition to vaping by having it available at all times. Now that I am not doobie smoking an eighth a day I might be able to wait a whole minute.

Vaping freed me. Even if ten WISPRs break in a row, I am still a vape fanatic.

I was just wondering, do you guys save or dump your used herb after WISPR-ing it? Can it be used to roll a joint later on? Also how much do you pack per bowl? Thanks. :)

They call the vaped herbs abv on here. I throw mine away but it seems that a lot of vaporists do keep them to make oils, tinctures and cooking butter. Check the cooking with cannabis forum on this website.

I would not suggest smoking your ABV. You have taken most of the good stuff and all the good flavor out already. Smoking something that smells like over cooked popcorn could not be pleasant. I also think you would have a hard time keeping it lit after the resin had been vaporized.

If you do smoke it, lemme know how it goes. Lol ;p

here for the chicks
I sometimes smoke my AVB in a joint. One part AVB, one of fresh meds and one part of tobacco. It's a bit smoother then just weed&tobacco.

OhTheAgony,
Nothing useful to add here, but I sure am intrigued by this new portable vape. Love the taste out of the iolite. If $ wasn't an issue I would buy a Whispr and a new Iolite. Reminds me I oughta get my old iolite out and see if I can get it to spark. Stopped working a while ago.

Hi, long time reader, first time poster.

So, I've had my WISPR for a about a month know. Been absolutely loving it. I have been using Ventti Premium Purified Universal Gas Refill. The last few times I used it, it took a while to light (maybe 30 seconds of clicking). Since the last time it worked, I've tried to use it twice to no avail. :( I've vented and refilled it, but still no luck. You can see the ignition clicking over, but it just doesn't light up and get that blue burn before it turns orange. I've allowed it to rest for extended periods of time and tried again, but still nothing.

Any ideas on what I should try next??

Thanks in advance! :peace:

Call the iolite warranty number. It will need service. Happened to me too. Mine is in the mail right now.

Good luck!

I've only had trouble getting ignition one time, and after a short wait it was fine. I'd try contacting the seller. If you're lucky they'll swap out your unit. O&B prefers that resellers handle warranty issues. They're forced to be involved in Europe, but that's not the case in the US, and the company hasn't been happy about that. If the seller has a hands off attitude, contact O&B and follow the procedure for warranty service. Although they've improved some performance aspects with the wispr (over the iolite), it uses the same design and is susceptible to the same issues.

Does anyone have a gas window or gas flow problem? I've been having a problem remembering how much butane was left in my WISPR, and keeping track of how many times I've refilled it. It seems like when i fill it, the window looks the same, but when I'm using it, the gas goes down. Its hard to explain. I never understood the whole entire flip upside down thing or right side up..

:peace:

Donkey,
My wispr officially crapped out on me this weekend. A freind of mine and myself each preordered one, and they both stopped working within a day of each other. Ignition won't ignite.... Purged and filled 5 times with no results.

I'm a huge iolite/wispr fan, but looks like I'll be without for a few weeks as it has to got to the US for replacement. :uhoh:

Anyone else only getting a hour of run time on a full tank?

There is a Canadian warrantee depot. You need to call the American number and tell them you are in Canada. They will give you an address for b.o.b. Headquarters in MB. This means you don't have to get your used vape into the USA. Once b.o.b. receives it, they will test and if it's broken, they contact the American depot who mail you a replacement.

Definitely seems convoluted but after the mess I had sending mine back to gotvape ( horrible communication, hidden fees, second customs payment...) I was completely happy sending it in for this process instead.

Good luck, I love my WISPR. Not holding it gives me crocodile tears.

Zed,
That is good to know.... They sent me a return form and address for the US.... I emailed them back asking if they had a Canadian depot.... Still waiting for a response, so far it takes them a full day to return my emails.

I'm not too keen on sending the unit through customs, no matter how much I scrub the thing. I went through 3 cans of butane so far with it, so It deff has some miles on it

Call them. There is a toll free number in your manual thing. Much quicker service that way.

When I've spoken to the American depot I was left feeling that they were a contracted company rather than an O&B branch. They don't act like they are happy you want your unit repaired. The Canadian depot at BOB seemed pleasant and helpful when I called to check on my unit.

Goo'luck!

Wispr return (merged)

okay so after about 3 weeks my wispr started leaking butane so i'm sending it back. might as well be up front i do vaporize marijuana in my wispr. they said to clean it before returning it or it could void the warranty if it contained any type of residue. i used allcohol and q tips to clean it but there still seems to be very minute brown specks in the bottom that i cant seem to get off? has anyone had any experience sending these back?

New poster here, I am an owner of an Essential Vape, perfect for herbal oils, and have a chillum for hashish-"like" concentrates, so for the general plant matter consumption I am interested in purchasing a portable vape for herbal material very soon. The top prospective choices from reviews, videos and this forum indicate Arizer Solo, the original Iolite and Iolite's new Wispr are the most feasible choices (i.e. no battery-handling/switching like MFLB, best for price, handheld size).

I am a bit put off by the doubled price of the Wispr (usually 260-280 USD) and limited availability (not on Amazon, just have found listings in eBay for high price), and since the Arizer Solo seems to have multiple reports by users for a lingering electronic/smell taste (most have reported it goes away but many have posted the "stink" has remained--therefore I would like to avoid returns/dealing with warranty so soon after purchase), and since many say much of the update of the Wispr is the housing and butane meter, I am leaning to purchasing an original Iolite since the availability and range of good deals are very good. I do notice complaints of the Iolite having functional problems in the long-run, improved by the Wispr, as well mouth piece replacements etc...but to Vape-connoisseurs and those who have used/owned both (input on Arizer also welcome, but I'm not considering purchasing) Iolite and Wisper, would you say a 80-120$ Iolite (average good deal) is better purchase VS purchase of Wispr 260+ ? If shelf life of Wispr is significantly longer or anything along those lines I'd appreciate input, as I mainly consume oils/concentrates and would like to return to consuming herbal material, which a portable vaporizer would aid in alot.

edit: I may go for the Arizer for the midrange price and to avoid costs of butane, but experiences appreciated. + Can anyone recommend best retailers online that in your experience have offered warranty support? Thanks

Judging by current eBay prices you'll pay about $130 for an iolite, and you can get a wispr for under $240 w/FC discount codes. http://www.fuckcombustion.com/viewtopic.php?id=2463

Whether the new model is worth the extra $ depends on how you value the improvements compared to the cost. I've already posted my opinion. There is no yes or no answer. It's up to the individual. If I had an iolite and only used it occasionally, I don't think I'd upgrade. If you don't have a portable, it's a more difficult choice. Prices may come down on the wispr. OTOH we may see better control of distribution with the wispr, and the lowball pricing you find on eBay for the iolite may not happen with this model. A lot of iolites sold for $250 2-3 yrs. ago (original price). In that respect, you could say the wispr, at under $250, is a bargain. Some people are willing to pay $500+ for a vape. For others, $150 is too high.

If shelf life of Wispr is significantly longer ....
Shelf life? I'm not sure what you mean? If you mean 'does it hold up better over time?', there's no way to know, since it's a new model. It has improvements over the iolite and right now you have to decide on that basis.
