Stu, if I am correct, my tubes work with a PD, have sold quite a few for it.
Ed,
I should've made my post clearer. I was referring to the Underdog, not the PD. I was responding to propjoe's question about using your tubes with the UD.

You did, I was thinking clearly which occours often. I am not sure what the size of the heatport is on the UD, be neat if they did fit it also though I think.

You should speak with Dave, as he has 2 different sizes of heatports. The main point that I was trying to make, was that the UD uses a silicone sleeve that slips on the outside of the heatport, causing a seal of sorts which is how it gets it's good airflow properties. This silicone "sleeve" also acts to hold the "bowl" which is a screen inserted a short distance above the end of the stem.

I'm sure you could design a cool tube for the UD, but it should be made with the UD's design in mind. In other words it will need to have a silicone tip to properly mate with the UD.

I hope I made that as clear as mud.

Ah, I see now, I wanna say I knew he was using tubing, guess if I knew the of the heat port it wouldn't be too much of a problem to attach tubing over the end of the insert that would side into the heatport if that's all it is to it.

I would be interested in a wood stem for each of my UDs. The wood would just need to be a similar outside diameter to Dave's glass stems.

What's the ID of the heatport or the OD of the tubing? The silicon is gonna prove to be a better seal around the hp for sure, but if you could get a tube or insert that would fit within the hp tight and secure that may just work just as nice.

Ed,
The silicone is not only used to form a seal around the heatport, but it also is the bowl itself. So one difference between the UD and say the Zap/PD is that the herb is not meant to be inserted into the heatport of the UD (as it is with the Zap/PD design), but rather placed a short distance above the heatport in the silicone tubing itself.

So I'm not sure if any tubes you make should be constructed to be inserted in the heatport, as this is not the design of the UD. Maybe it might work, I just don't know. Again, I would defer to Dave on this point.

The material will definitely start to blacken if placed too far down in the heatport on the UD (This was at least my experience with the Tupelo Goblet. Warning! Your experience may differ) Using the silicone as the bowl works very well (IMO) and would also provide a nice snug seal on a wood stem of the proper size (IMO).

I had seen where he mashed the screen in the tubing, wasn't sure how far away it was from the hp.

I did figure that the tubing slid over the hp would provide for a tighter snug fit. Thing is if I knew what the ID of the hp was then maybe I make a tube that had a longer tip/insert that could be slide down or just within it so it could be used. The tip/insert could be made longer and wouldn't necessarily have to be loaded full to work properly. All it would have to be is to fit it

Another idea might be to add a silicone ring around the stem tip that could go over the UD's heatport the way his does. Take a look at some of the tubes that Alan is making now. He got some of those ideas from the silicone bowl used on the UD. I think you could figure something out Ed. :2c:

Good idea Mom, I got the info I needed and am gonna get something going in this way after first of the year. Am bout to take the only break I get once a year next week!

Morninglight and Prestoned glad you got the pieces and are happy with em, I do hope you all enjoy them and look forward to hearing your experiences with them.

As I said, am gonna take the next week off and head to Texas for a 3 day onslaught of ducks, dove, and speckled trout! I am gonna be wrapping up orders and doing emails and such this weekend, Mrs. Ed is gonna get this orders in the mail for me next week. With so much going on lately I havent been able to really get anything done. I did take my oldest son my 10 year old hunting yesterday morning and he got his first deer/buck a 5pt. an old buck, he was about 180lbs. It was a five solid minute heart pumping adrenaline rush, we had talked about how he would move in the stand and how we would do that depending on where the buck was coming from, he slipped up on our left side and we had to be super still, came within inches of the tree we were in, my son is grinning like mule eatn briars one ear to the other, I thought for sure the buck would hear us and split, but he didnt, we waited a few more steps, and he took his time and squeezed one off! He we was so excited, I was so excited, was one of the best days of our lives! Like Uncle Ted would say, he's my "Back-strap Assassin"!

I am gonna look into getting the surgical grade tubing to add as extras with my tubes so they can be made to fit the various other vapes and used as a customer sees fit.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and many blessings in the new year!

Just saying Merry Xmas to Ed.

Got a call from a friend in Europe Xmas day who was enjoying one of the pieces you made for me awhile back. It is only used on holidays and special occasions.

Am slaying the ducks out here in TX, had hella flights of Redheads on us at daybreak this morning, got a quick limit on em and had a great time. At one time we had 200+ birds lands in our spread, freakin duck were everywhere! Gonna give it hell for the next couplea days and bag up some more meat!

HighEdScholar, really glad you like that koa lb stem, I hope you enjoy the vapor with it. Vito is the man!

Bluesman you gotta love the way that thing feels overall, from top to bottom it really adds to the experience, I am glad you like it, the cocobolo is a super dense wood and as I have said before the denser wood seems to crisp the vapor some and does make a noticeable difference from other stems.

BeezleB, its good to see you around, all is well, everyone had a great Christmas, thanks for stopping by. You're a good friend to have given those to your friends there, they are special pieces.

Ed's TnT,
Hell yea ed, hope ya"ll keep bustin em.... We got us two greenheads sunday morning and got a wet ass too... Bro, the swamp we hunt is full of water after all this rain so hopefully a big push will happen soon and we limit out one morning.. Only had a chance to hunt them redheads once or twice, man are they fast or what? Anyways just saying hello really, hope you enjoy the rest of your trip. :peace:

Glad to know there are some folks on here close to me. This season has been a good one for birds in Louisiana as well. Went our looking for Bambi but so far none this season.

Gonzo,
Good deal gonzo, I was just outside of hammond a couple months ago, went with a friend to buy a copperhead surface drive. The guys at copperhead motors are first class, plus the motor gets us to great holes no one else can even think of getting too.... What kind of birds yall boys been seeing this year?

Good many greys and green wings but nothing compared to last year. Hoping things get better with this wet weather. Hoping bambi season will get better as well. I don't get to get out as much as I would like so when I do I really need mother nature on my side.

Good morning, I know that is frustrating and probably doesn't make sense to sell the bats and tokes but no dugouts! I have found that purpleheart is such a super dense wood that working it in different ways is tougher than others, it tends to burn really easy when finishing the tokes, takes a lot more hand work which inturn takes more time, time is something I am always searching for. I guess I have just avoided making dugouts in this species assuming they would take more time, I have some figured boards in this. I am gonna take some time out next week, after first of the year am gonna get back to making dugouts, have several species am out of, a couple I wanna introduce. I will try and work the purple in and see how it goes, if they do work out then will let you know. As far as price they will be comparable to others I offer. "NOEL" discount ends the end of Dec., but dont sweat that, am sure they will be some other ways to save. Bear with me, I'll do my best to get you right!

If you succeed at the challenge of making a purpleheart dugout...consider me first on the list to order one and a matching bat...and probably a matching MFLB stem too...assuming I can afford it all :). I am still very much loving the purpleheart toke. In fact it has somehow become my daily driver for combustion over the 15 or so nice glass pieces I have. Was not expecting that from a small wooden pipe...especially one that was so affordable.

Good morning ya'll, hope all is well, back in MS. had another awesome couplea days hunting, wednesday we killed 14, I nailed 4 redheads and my first pintail, had a beautiful black lab retrieve everyone, alota more fun watching the dog work and us not having to get em ourselves. The next day was just as good, also shot my first green wing teal and busted a few more reds, have hella breast fillets for the year.

Hope your season gets better for you down there, not much time left in it for either of us!

Truefreak will sure let you know how they come out, gonna try and get back to making dugouts hard in the next few weeks, Christmas sales were really good, am sold out of many species.

I wish you all a safe and happy new year!
