Glycerin tincture lollipops or hard candy

Hello,

I haven't read too much on the cooking thread on FC, but from what I have read their are some pretty knowledgeable cooks. I have two small bottles of homemade cannabis tincture, made with food grade glycerin, I am not sure of the specific amounts, although I can check if necessary. They have been stored in complete darkness for a few months in airtight bottles, so im sure the potency is still fine. Tincture from the same batch took about 2-3 teaspoons to get high, and i would guess combined the bottles have 25 teaspoons or something around that, which would be roughly 7 tablespoons. Most of the recipes I have found are not too clear, and do not mention if it is okay to use non-alcoholic based tincture. They also don't talk about potency.

My question is: Does anyone on here have a recipe, or experience to help aid me in making lollipops or hard candy? I have never made candy, but I understand the general process, and am generally a good cook.

Any knowledge or insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! :)

i used the directions for the microwave hard candy recipe on the lorann flavorings package. i added the way evaporated everclear tincture with the flavoring.

since you've never done candy before, you may want to try a dry run w/o the tincture. it'd be a shame to ruin it because of a botched batch.

if you do stovetop, be sure to use a candy thermometer as the sugar temperature is what defines the final texture of the hardened mixture.

good luck and please share your results - success or failure!

Thanks for your fast response!

I just tried a test run with the recipe on the other candy thread on here, 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup corn syrup, they certainly don't lie when they say have EVERYTHING ready, I deviated just a little and didn't have the time to get half the sticks into the mixture, which i put on a flat piece of parchment paper for flat lollipops. I definitely have some more experience now, and after reading other sites, I think ill be able to figure out the math with the tincture i have pretty easily, although I might try it in liquid form once to ensure the correct dosage before hand, even if the final product comes out strong, they at least I can finally put this tincture to good use and just dose it carefully. How long, in your experience to these lollipops last? If sealed well and stored correctly, I would imagine a while. Love your avatar and have seen a bunch of your posts herbgirl, thanks for the help!

Im still thinking about weather I want to give it another test run before I use my tincture, i probably will, even though I have no desire for the extra sugar from eating them unless im getting high off of it!

 hubby is bathing the monsters right now so they are out of my hair for the time being :)

;) you have learned the first rule of hard candy making. get ALL of your shit together. even a second's hesitation can mean a burned mess or half your candy cooling, unformed in the measuring cup.

i've only ever had luck with large flat lollipop and the stand up spherical ones. you can see the ones i made - they are the green ones buried somewhere in the candy thread sitting on a silver tray or some shit i think.

i have some tiny gem shaped molds, but can't seem to get the candy in there before it cools. I have had a lot of luck just greasing a silpat or cake pan and pouring out on that. break up the resulting pieces and toss them in powdered sugar so they don't stick.

Lo has some hexagonal breakaway molds that i am looking into getting. just pour, cool and crack apart.

and i have no clue how long they last - we always eat them in a few weeks and share with friends :)

I would assume stored cool, dry the shelf life would be quite good.

ok, something else random in my brain
glycerin is hygroscopic, meaning it draws water to it, i'm not sure if this could, over time, make the candies soften if not kept airtight? i may be talking out of my ass here but it's just something to consider.

and you actually recognize my avatar or just like it?
very few people would recognize Mrs. Slocombe from Grace Brother's Ladies Department. "and I am unanimous in that"
i dig her hair - as a kid i always wanted bright colors like hers - when i put the pic up, that was my current color. now it's fading Ravens Purple and Black.

anyway, i do think you should do a trial run of the tincture if just to test how strong it is and make sure you get the right amount into your candy.

Thanks for your response and help!

I dont recognize your avatar but when I have seen it in the past, in conjunction with your name "herbgirl" and your quote, a real aromatherapist, my brain just conjures up this comical ganja loving hair died girl with a niche for cooking with cannabis, and an aromatherapy job.

Ill post again once I do another run, I never really feel like taking the time to use the tincture since 2 hours is a while to wait when I can vape a bowl in 5 mins...so i might just go for it and add most of my tincture, seeing as the trial run didn't make sense proportionally to the way the amount of tincture would divide up among 15 lollipops, but if I use both bottles it will be more like one lollipop for dose, or as you said i might just pour it on a sheet and break it up, but something about a lollipop is much more appealing to me, since otherwise I might as well just drink it out of the bottle. Sorry to ramble!

Thanks!

I"m interested to see how your glycerin candies turn out. Also, speaking of avatars, I always thought Cactus was Mike. But that's a great picture of Trey. :)

Phish, i'm happy to help out.
and yes, i likey the herbals, dye my hair bizarre colors, actually like cooking damn near everything from scratch (with or without the good herb - i actually have a pot of beef stock simmering away and a kids dry cough herbal cough syrup cooking right next to it on the stove now- lol)

really, i'm suzie fucking homemaker. the control freak in me plus a healthy respect for all the nasty chemicals we incorporate into our homes and diet drives me to do such strange things as making my own yogurt and bread and making my own skin salves and laundry detergent. I even make and can my own homemade preserves, jams, syrups and applesauce. FREAK!

so yeah - anything homemade/scratch you can bet i've tried it and i'm willing to share what i've learned - good and bad. please ask!

OT...

sorry to break the illusion but as for the aromatherapy 'job', well not so much sorta- I consider myself an aromatherapist because i have been studying and working with essential oils (and herbs in general) for at least 18 years. Recently, via one of the kind vape companies (that found me here on FC actually), i was supposed to go to school to get the letters after my name that would allow me to become a 'registered aromatherapist'.
unfortunately that company has run into some customs issues :/ so for the time being no letters
however,
that company's lawyer has contacted me so that we can discuss the aromatherapy potential of this particular vaporizer (which is amazing - the term workhorse of the industry was used) hopefully this will get the company back up and running again.

One more phan here. Favorite band since 93.

was a phan in the early 80's through mid 90s. Skipped part of my high school graduation to drive to Red Rocks in '95 to see them. Some time around '96 I stopped enjoying the music they were putting out. :( Still love the older stuff though. Might even still have some bootlegs hidden away somewhere.
