So how do you guys feel about this.

Personally, in my opinion, this is wayyyy tooooo soon and potentially could hurt the future acceptance of marijuana being thought of as legal medicine versus just another recreational drug that needs to be outlawed.

Edibles is one thing. A rationale could be used, as an example, for patients who are suffering from various lung deseases, but super sweetened sugary soda pop? I guess I could come up with a rationale of sorts but it would be stretch..........especially considering the names and logos on the bottles.

I don't see this as a good thing at all............at least not now.

I agree with you, Lwien This does not look like a product that will help push the legalization movement forward, even the medical legalization.

While I'd question the specific labeling used by the drinks in the photo of that link, there shouldn't be any reason to object to liquid Administration methods (Unless you work for a brewery). I imagine it'd be a nice alternative to large, hard to swallow pills and harsh vaping(Hyperbole but true) for people who can't hold solid food down, aren't allowed to consume solid food, or have no appetite. All of which are common things seen in medical patients.

I dont think its necessarily objecting to all liquid administration, but the product(a sugary soda type drink with low amounts of THC) in question here.

THC drinks are okay but only if they taste horrible and/or knock you on your ass? I don't think that's very compassionate and the same reasoning can easily be applied to edibles.

These guys are pioneering standards for one type of edible They have to figure out all sorts of things relating to bottling, preservation, quality assurance, etc in an environment which tends not to help or support them. I have seen products like that in the clinics, possibly those very ones, though I have never tried em. So far the edibles I have tried were inferior to stuff I make myself. But I think we should make a space for people to try things like this and don't go after individuals like this particular company, who are no doubt trying to make a living at something they are into. NBC had no story; having no real news they manufactured a story out of these drinks, heedless of who ends up pilloried.

the cartoon characters on the bottles are the only negative i really see. seems "they" would be all over that like stank on shit. "Your trying to market this towards children" is what theyll say

Drop Joe Camel and you should be fine :)

I have no problem with there being a product like this, if indeed the levels of THC are enough to have it be considered medicine and it is dispensed accordingly. The problem I see is the same as JDS, the packaging seems to appeal to the "typical stoner" stereotype. And this is what seems to target and attract the younger crowd. If packaged appropriately, it wouldn't stir up such negative connotations and would appear, IMO, more medicinal.

call it "Skunk Soda" turns potheads on, turns kids off. Sans the cartoon Pepe Le Pew though :)

not sure how soda is any different from candy, brownies, cookies etc. All are sweet and loved by kids.

all sweet things are loved by adults too. weed pop is fine, just keep the cartoons off it IMO that's what every anti-head will jump all over

for example, there's a head shop in WV that can no longer sell flavored papers, blunt wraps, any shit like that.....but they can still sell a 6' Graffix Bong. Makes no sense to me.

but they also sell the vapir one for $300 sooooo.......

well the reason they can't sell flavored tobacco products and shit like that is because big gov thinks they are aimed at today's youth, Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act.

My name is Jeff. I am an adult. And I enjoy the flavor orange.

There. fuck you gov.

and a recent study shows kids are more likely to smoke having seen all the anti-smoking commercials. and its true, when I smoked cigs those commercials reminded me that I needed a smoke...... this country is so backwards.

honestly I think the anti smoking commercials I see more or less glorify than add a stigma to smoking.
I've also seen anti cigarette adds that pretty much paint the common smoker in the guise of a pothead.... Never seen cig smokers act the way the kids do in commercials.
Instead of showing the horrors of smoking, they make amusing funny commercials that only kind of downplay on the dangers. I think we are sending all kinds of wrong messages to todays youth. We don't want you to touch these things, yet we will make them semi appealing by using humor and cartoons.

The thought behind my original post wasn't IF this should be a viable product but rather if it could hurt the further acceptance of the medical MJ movement considering how these soft drinks are presented. In my opinion, mom had it right when she said, "the packaging seems to appeal to the "typical stoner" stereotype", and when that happens, it can't be a good thing.

There are different things going on here. Tobacco addiction is very serious and preventing early tobacco addiction and all the horrible health consequences is worth some effort and thought. Cannabis otoh, while it isn't physically addicting or carcinogenic like tobacco, is probably also pretty bad IMO for teenagers who are in the process of learning self-discipline and study habits. But comparatively speaking, I'd much rather see my teenage kid drink one of those sodas than smoke cigs. Cigarettes are pretty easily available to kids, but those sodas are sold only to documented patients at clinics.

edit: I do agree that the legalization movement would be better off if they kept the packaging quiet and sober like liquor packaging. If full legalization takes place there probably will follow regulations similar to alcohol. At the moment those sodas are in a kind of novelty niche, very limited distribution, whatever... the truth is this really is not a significant issue at this time and NBC is just attempting to drum up a story regardless of the consequences for the folks making the drinks.

It could a billion dollar business and be mine and I would not do it. Soda Pot. They are so gonna throw that guy in a hole for something.

Their is pushing the boundaries and then their is saying fuck the boundaries.

With that said, I had weed beer and I think weed soda in Europe about a decade or so ago at Rock am Ring. It sucked and had no additional effect.

Illustrating some aspects of worse case scenarios such as "they will put weed in sodas" will do much to bolster "wont someone think of the children" crowd.

With that said, it is really just another edible.

I do not really find fault with the labeling and even if they put in say a cough syrup bottle and dispensed it the media would still spin it but then it would be much more difficult to sell. I would not believe its made by not for profit reasons. It is a product meant to make money. Nothing more, nothing less.

Gunky has it right, on the media spin. /Bravo!

I think the labels used can still have the names, but they should be more Medical MJ oriented. like stated above, they are just a bit much "Stoner" To me, the current labels just scream out for negative attention.

how about a label with a dude standing at a counter at white castle, to show what happens after you drink it :p

seriously tho, gotta get away from the "stupid stoner" image (but still appealing) and stick with some good classy "normal soda" parodies like "Potsi" or "CannaCoke" :)

Eh, people who want that garbage will buy it and people like me who don't drink soda won't give them a dollar.

Not a big deal to me, it's just novelty and unfortunately the cannabis industry is flooded with novelty crap.

Plus there is plenty of sugar in brownies and cookies and the such so what's the big deal with this being sugary?

Yeah, but most of the novelty crap are tools, not consumables. The issue, I believe, is not if one would use these products, but rather if these products with their current logo's and graphics hinder the medical MJ efforts.

Yes I agree with that, but you can already buy edibles that are totally stealing logo's of known brands. Such as the "reefers" Reese's peanut butter cup knock off. I've seen the same with snickers and many others. So I guess I don't really see this as much different or shocking. I still don't like it but it's nothing new.

I would just hope that any respectable dispensary would not carry goofy novelties, since they should be focused on quality medication.

After visiting many dispensaries out here, it is really obvious who each individual dispensary caters to. There are some that are dedicated to the recreational user, and I have no doubt that they would carry this product, but there are also dispensaries that cater strictly to the medical needs of their patients, and those dispensaries would NEVER carry a product such as this. As a matter of fact, those that are narrowly focused in the medical community don't carry any branded product what so ever but rather product that is produced in-house without any labeling other than a simple label stating what it is, the ingredients, THC/CBD/CBN content, strain genetics and suggested dosing.

Then, there are those dispensaries that straddle the middle ground that would carry branded product but would never carry product that was branded such as these particular soda bottles.

It seems that the general consensus is , this will hurt further legalization of marijuana.
When I first heard this on the news, my initial reaction was... there goes the farm.
Labeling should be mature and well thought out. :2c:

Sure it might hurt the medical community, but honestly it should be legal for recreational use as well. So I say fuck it, let it rain cannabis soda.
