Burnt Popcorn = Scorching?

I have two vapes that i use regularly.

the first is a vape i use the most, it's a glass straw with a very narrow airpath.
it gets me ripped, i use a lighter to conductively heat the finely ground herb.

sometimes i get uneven heating that can lead to scorching, or lightly combusting the herb.

when this happens the hit is ultra harsh, though only slightly harsher than normal (i think it's due to the short airpath)

the other is the herbalaire, in which i often take the herb up to the max setting (an indicated 400 F, though it does exceed it's indicated max at times (indicated by the red light)) the herb that comes out from this is always dark, dark brown.

but i never get that burnt popcorn taste, even at those high temps.

is it because the burnt popcorn taste is due to scorching?

I find that the burnt popcorn taste is when the bowl is nearing it's end, or should have already been ended. So yeah, I would say it could very well have to do with over vaping the herb. I never scorched my herb though, and my ABV is never black.

I agree about the herbalAire doing a good job at higher temps and still tasting pretty good. I don't run the Buddha as hot because it risks tasting bad. But i don't have a ton more insight other than, i figure tasting bad can't be a good thing.

maybe means pyrolisis happening?

i wonder what it's caused by.

are you using a vape with a large airpath, or a narrow airpath?

It's always been with my DBV and other similar whip vapes that I've noticed the burnt popcorn taste. Seems like packing bigger bowls would be more likely to develop this taste since it will be nearly impossible to evenly vape all the herb, leaving you with many more hits left in the wand, but a not so good taste.

i have not experienced this problem when using the HA in whip mode.

the uneven vape, or burnt popcorn taste.

I think strain really depends on how the bud tastes towards the end. When I start tasting this burnt popcorn taste I know the bowl is done and I stop.

I also have the HA and ive never scorched anything in there.

You may be scorching your herb though. Just sounds like you are from what you posted from your other vape.

Just curious as to why you just don't use your HA all the time? I got one like a month ago and it has quickly earned its spot in efficieny and as my go to vape.

the wide airpath means that i need to use much much more bud to get the same flavor. that and i don't get (with the HA) the same range of compounds, nor do i get them in one single dose, which seems to add to the effect.

i use about the same amount in the straw that log vape users use, though i do get scorching sometimes as well as burnt popcorn.

Very strain dependent to how the herb tastes towards the end, as I said. Sometimes it does taste like burnt popcorn at the end, sometimes not.

interesting. So burnt popcorn is more of an issue with the herb being done but is strain specific? Two strains so far and have sensed it a few times with both strains
