About old FC & NewFC: we're not sure where we're going but we're working on it

The return of FC's founder, @vtac, and his appointment as an Administrator at NewFC has undoubtedly caused many of you to wonder what's going on and what will happen next. I've been nominated to post an explanation, but this is actually a joint statement from @Stu, @vtac, and me.


The first effect is that we are suspending our program of closing threads at OG FC. For now, we are allowing new threads on both forums. We realize that this splits some discussions across two forums, but most threads exist in one forum or the other. We won't re-open any of the closed threads at this time. We are considering the possibility of combining the threads and member base of both forums, but this raises issues that will be difficult to resolve. Nevertheless, if we can pull it off this is the most likely solution.


We feel that preserving the FuckCombustion domain is important, but we also recognize the value of a domain name that does not contain "fuck". If we can, we will provide a path to the forum that is free of vulgarity. Merging FCombustion, NewFuckCombustion, and FuckCombustion is challenging, but we have set that as a goal.


We ask your patience while we work our way through the challenges ahead. There is a lot of research to be done and we don't think we've identified all the problems, let alone figured out solutions. We will try to keep you informed as we form and implement a plan. Please don't feel offended if you ask a question or make a suggestion and don't get a response. We're a little busy right now. As the thread title says, we're not sure where we're going but we're working on it.

I just read this welcomed news on the other forum.

I do have reservations about keeping this site open and do intend to transition completely to NFC; frankly my concern comes from a security standpoint, as EVERYONE'S information is much more easily compromised on Old FC versus the New FC.

Ah here we are, I just wanted to make sure folks like @KeroZen who aren't on newFC know what's going on! Don't want to lose any of our valuable members amid all the transitioning

I'm on the new site but I have strong and valid concerns against that particular topic section that was added and always had been disallowed here, and the reason why I stuck around on OGFC and have serious doubts I'll move on the new one at the moment or in the near future.

That section is not visible to non-members. You aren't the only one who has expressed concerns about it. No one has actually explained what those concerns are, however.

I've already promised someone else that I will bring this subject up for review the next time @Stu, @vtac, and I talk. In order to make an informed decision, I would like to know what the arguments against it are.

@pakalolo, what's great about having a Cultivation thread is that, here in the US (don't know about other countries) most states that legalized have homegrowing provisions so the thread is definitely an asset. I know a few of our members joined Vapor Asylum to partake in that thread; though don't know personally its substance.

@KeroZen, what is your objection if the thread is only visible to registered members?

I have tried with no luck to reach the new FC website since I heard about it. Every time I try to connect to the site it times out. I have no issues reaching the original FC forums (this one).

Am I the only person having this problem?

Not sure what the arguments against it are, but as far as finding arguments in favor, all anyone needs to do is look at the threads in that subforum. They're unquestionably a valuable contribution to the forum.

It doesn't change anything whether it needs registration or not since anyone can register. State Services agents are present everywhere and it's not a mere registration form that will prevent them from anything.

As for the arguments against I already expressed them elsewhere: I and many people live under strong prohibition. Drug production is the highest possible level of crime here, exactly the same as terrorism or murder. And in our Law there is no distinction between producing Heroin or Cannabis, it's the same.

There is a grey zone around paraphernalia and the fact our vapes can be used to vaporize any kind of dry herbs, like tobacco or legal ones. This grey zone vanishes as soon as there is any clear connection to drug production.

Besides, there are already countless forums dedicated to plant growing. If you want to discuss that topic you can already do it elsewhere. I personally avoid these places like plague and I would be sad to have to do the same for this forum where I invested so much of my time, but that's life!

@pakalolo, @Stu, and @vtac, if you need any assistance with migration/merging of content/usernames etc., or need any custom scripting done, or add-ons etc., don't hesitate to reach out and I'll do what I can to help.

Do you use reddit? Literally hundreds of thousands of your compatriots do, and reddit has a huge sub-reddit dedicated to cultivation. Have there been consequences from this that I'm unable to find?

How about concentrates? You've participated in FC without issue yet we've always had threads devoted to the production of concentrates. What about edibles? Lots of threads about making those. I'm having difficulty understanding what the special risk is when cultivation is discussed.

I understand and agree with your point about other forums dedicated to growing. If that topic started to become the focus rather than vaporizing and vaporizers, I would support closing it immediately. I would argue that it should be similar to our policy towards politics: take it somewhere else. That doesn't seem to be a problem, however.

Let me be clear: I am not arguing in support of keeping the sub-forum. I am trying to understand why it is so dangerous for some people if we have one.

Was a bit overwhelmed by the length of the thread, and confused as to whether or not the new forum would recognize us by our existing log ins, or if a completely new account needed to be created. So decided I'd come back when I had a few minutes to read though the thread in it's entirety, then go register at the new forum in whichever manor was correct.

Last night I came back to do so, and found this thread. Heh.

Sooooo... Am I to register at the new forum still? Or stay here and wait for a merge? If I do register at the new forum, is it an entirely new acct, or do I use my existing log in, PW, etc?

We cannot move accounts. You will have to register at NewFC. This forum does not get much activity right now.

I know I used my same login, screen name, and profile picture when creating my NewFC account. What I mean is, yes, it's a new/separate account that you're creating on NFC...but is no reason that you can't create the account with the same name/login/PW/picture that you use here, as long as no one else has already created an account with that name before you. That way we all recognize each other over there

This is actually the way we'd prefer. If we manage to merge the two forums, the biggest problem will probably be dealing with people who have created accounts on NewFC with a different membername.

Thank you, that's what I assumed. But I wanted to make sure before I created a new acct in the event it would be an unnecessary duplicate. Some forums I've been on in the past have migrated accounts and PWs over to new platforms. Not that I care one way or the next. Just didn't want to create a dupe unless it was necessary. Thanks!

I dont think it is a problem for username to changed in the run. So probably they can change the username to match the one of oldFC and then merge.. Blah i can only imagine the extra handwork that would cause though,lol..
Honesltly i dont care that much about my contribution to the NFC,i can do just fine whitout those posts .
I have no sentiments about likes and points,it feel like it came a long after i joined oldFC anyway.

Since we haven't tested a merge yet, we don't know what will happen. There are undoubtedly options to deal with collisions, but I don't know what they are.

Does the hosting site have a 'sandbox' you may copy the sites in and test the merge without impacting the production sites?
