ISO replacements. WTF?!?!?

Team NO SLEEP!
What the fuck is everyone doing when they run out of ISO?

I am trying to postpone cleanings and drag it out to ration what I have stocked, but I find that gross and like keeping my shit clean.

What are the alternatives?
How are you all cleaning?

I fucking hate old globby dirty water.

The same old recycled ISO followed by a hot rinse. As long as I strain the old ISO once in awhile its stays usable, sort of.

I moved on from ISO to PBW, I find it works better (with an ultrasonic cleaner)... coming sparkling clean (even dab glass). Plus it's cheap and lasts a long time so no re-use/recycling is necessary after cleaning all the equipment. Ymmv.

I clean everything weekly and rinse with distilled water so there's no water staining/scaling on the glass either. I too like everything clean clean. And I use distilled water in my wet pieces.

Have you heard about the boom on Mizar 5?
I'm always surprised how much I can get off with really hot water and some shaking. I've been using simple green and a mug warmer to clean small stuff like bangers and terp pearls but haven't did it with any of my rigs.

I also reuse my iso alot with occasional straining like howie said.

I just give mine a hot water rinse and plop a generic own brand denture cleaning tab in to eat through the grunge, and maybe give it a shake and tickle with the bendy brush if I'm in a hurry

We will never run out of EverClear. Can't stand to drink it so it lasts a while. Don't know what to do with the reclaim  If only I liked EverClear :disgust:
People do know that EverClear is 95% alcohol, right? And about 5% smelly.

@TommyDee a lot of states do not allow over the counter sale of high proof alcohol, the EverClear sold in Florida for instance is 151 proof.

We usually order from CulinarySolvent when we need high proof ethanol. but we managed to score a couple gallons of 99% ISO from BVV last night.

I like pbw for glass as well. And we use the dishwasher for smaller parts too. In the past ive used simple green and orange cleaner, just on glass though, and they work reasonably well.

I haven't used any of the hydro store expensive gunk, so no opinion there.

I bought a 6 pack of 91% iso a few months back and it's lookin like it will last longer than the shortage. Otherwise boiling water works quite well but requires caution.

Ditto on the ISO, but a 12-pack, and 99%

hope y’all are staying safe, being careful, and able to keep your heads fed in this time of weird

Was going to pick up a bottle of 150 proof Everclear until I learned that it's illegal in my state. (I'm late to the party on knowledge of liquor laws)

I wonder if 80 or 100 proof vodka mixed with salt would work...:hmm:

PBW is absolutely worthless to me. I have never got it to work and everytime I used it, It always required ISO in the end anyways so what's the point? I'm currently straining my used ISO through coffee filters.. Still have one quart of Equate 91% left though.

I use Iso and Orange Chronic exclusively. I've tried about 7 different glass cleaners including Grunge Off and found Orange Chronic to be the most effective. If anyone wants my PBW.. you can have it! :D

Almost there...
This is a foolproof method for sparkling clean glass with kitchen stuff!

1- Get your tap water as hot as it will get.
2- run the water at full pressure through your bongs, WT's etc. It will loosen a lot of oils and stuck on gunk.
3- Add some white vinegar to a glass and heat up in the microwave till hot.
4- pour into your bongs, WT's etc and shake it around, Be careful to not block the joints completely as it will build a bit of pressure. Swirl and allow to stand for a minute or so.
4- Add a bit of Bicarbonate of Soda and use your thumb to plug the joint hole you added the BoS to. This will make it bubble and foam all the way through your glass piece. Shake again.
5- Run the hot water through the bong, WT again to remove the vinegar and BoS.
6- A drop of detergent and a shake and wipe down to complete the cleaning process!

Very easy and this removes everything for me!

Most people will have these items in their kitchens and they are cheap and do not damage the environment!
