My V2 just came in yesterday. It’s covered in dried glue/epoxy. There’s even a dried fingerprint on it! Has anyone else ever ran into this? I heard reaching out to RBT is a PITA, so thinking of just sanding and finishing it myself

It took about a week for Cole to get to email about a Splinter that stopped working but they took care of the problem as soon as he was able to get to my email.

I am trying a Splinter v2 for the first time....I did not want to flash diff firmware...so using my G43 mod setup (myevic) to run it for now. I am using the power mode and using at just above or just below 30w.

I just press and vary my draw a bit...but ending slightly harder....after about 10-12 seconds I get a good hit. I was trying to feather the heater button...but it did not seem to be necessary. I am trying to get a decent hit in less than 10 seconds. Is this possible running the vape this way?

This is mostly how I use mine. I find for low power levels like 30 W I like to go for 15 -20 seconds ( I have big lungs). Not exactly feathering, just another press to reset the cut off timer. I use the Tubo firmware and don't activate cruise (seems unsafe to me). Bump up just a watt or two and it will go faster. Draw strength controls temperate and slower is hotter, especially when you go past 10 sec. Ramping up pull strength right near the end gives a killer hit. I've experimented with TC on a Wismec P80 but the temp regulation isn't enough to really change the experience. For this mod TC acts as a safety cap on temp.

In wattage mode I like to set it to about 33W and heat for 5 seconds or so before I start drawing

I'd try polishing the thumb print to see if it's just the wax or lacquer finish that's effected
Fingers crossed for ya, it'll just buff out

After testing a couple loads.....the splinter heater puts off a nasty smell....not good at all. I wonder if that is the smell of glue off gassing? Im kinda bummed....it was working pretty good with a bubble stem.

I’ve been trying to polishing this thing like it’s the 1st of December. It’s definitely some kind of glue or epoxy. I really hope they’re not using lacquer on these

when I go for longer hits I definitely get an odd taste. It’s the same taste that I would get when I used my Sai, so I know it isn’t the bud.

I definitely needed to burn off this v2 even though the site says that it’s done in the factory now. The burn off was really bad, it was like I was vaping a normal bowl

I believe that I have a new splinter and not a use one.....so just went through the proper burn off (thanks for the linkage Summer).....

Smell is mostly gone.......still a small bit left. So until I hear back from the person I got it from....I am assuming this is new and never used...so it needed the full burn off.

I also have a question.....a couple things I was worried about is what type of epoxy is being use....did they change that at any time in all the RBT vapes?

Also I am a bit worried about the mica piece and particles. I have a Z on the way and would like to make a glass piece to swap it out with the mica one.

I don't know anything about the epoxy.

The only Chinese Splinter that had mica instead of ceramic was the first run of the bubinga V1. They temporarily called newer ones the V1+ for a while to make it clear that they talking about the newer ones. The blackwood V2 and ZV2 have been ceramic.

I have a bubinga Z and a wenge Z but had not entertained concern about the mica piece.

For Splinter burn off I always fire at a high wattage while blowing in each of the air holes. I also blow through an empty inserted stem.

Yeah no reason to be concerned, and as the boss said, the one you have is ceramic not mica. Glass was actually used in the early beta Zions, though the mica was found to be superior for several reasons... I guess now ceramic is the best of all worlds! Search threads for epoxy?

Good to hear its legit! Is there a dual mod that i can charge by plugging it in without issues? I read that the gen3 dual charges unevenly, so an external charger is necessary

I'm pretty certain it's only the gen3 (3 batteries) not the gen3 dual that discharges batteries unevenly. @cyberguy

LP, pick the purple/brown color & it's US Warehouse, otherwise you'll have to Google search.

Seems the price on that comes to $35, I do not need it now, but contemplating for the future lol
