The Nomad From Morwood

Mine seems really close though. Might be time to buy batteries.

I just bought a bunch of Molicel 26A's from 18650batterystore.com although my Nomad is pretty far away. If anyone (especially in Canada) is looking for batteries and needs a few cells I would recommend them (I bought 10 Molicel 26A, 2 Sony VTC6 and a Sanyo). The Moliciel 26A is Mooch's top pick for an all around 18650 and I believe the battery that Dan has most recently said is his recommendation for the Nomad. If you do make an order to Canada make sure you stay under 20 cells and choose the cheap shipping option. This keeps your order with USPS which is much more reasonable and I didn't even end up paying anything extra in fees so my order worked out to $9 CDN per cell.

@SquirrelMaster ,

That Molicel 26A is amazing. It's what I use now. Lasts forever it seems. The only downside is that I've noticed some of the wraps are inconsistent in thickness, making some cells fit tighter than others.

I also really like the colour of the wrap, goes nicely with the woods!

forget it, i see the link :)

Even though it seems to last forever, I’m guessing there’s still a clear drop in performance before it gets too low in voltage?

The Nomad will be my first unregulated device and I’m a little worried about accidentally discharging them too far. :ugh:

Do most of you successfully judge when to switch batteries by a drop in performance, or do a lot of you test the battery periodically?

If you test it, which meters do you use and is there any way to test the battery without taking it all the way out?

Thanks for the pictures, I’m like a kid on Christmas, one of those babies I believe is heading my way and I’m trying not to watch too much or too close as to what I am exactly getting. Even though I know what it is I know I’m going to be surprised at how cool it is.:brow:

Admittedly, though I know I should use a multimeter to test my 18650's to make sure I don't push them too far in the discharge direction...I can tell due to the performance drop with reasonable confidence.

I have a Nitecore Intellicharger i4 that I've had for many years. It's not digital, but it has three lights for each battery bay, and when I drop my "spent" 18650's from my nomad into it, it usually jumps to the second light blinking immediately or almost immediately. The point being I tend to notice a performance drop plenty early.

But I've been using these kind of batteries with mechanical unregulated vaporizers since my big stint with nicotine juice vaporizers a decade ago (which allowed me to quit smoking cigarettes). So, I would still recommend anyone new to unregulated 18650 use a multimeter to check your battery along the way until you can simply recognize when it's time to swap batteries by the feel of it.

Have you tried the Molicel 26A yet? The other info is still helpful, but I was wondering if the performance drop is still clear with them since Dan said they seem to last a long time.

My apologies. I misunderstood. Didn't realize you were specifically asking about that particular battery.

But no, I haven't tried the Molicel 26A yet. I've been sticking to the Sony LG HG2 for years. Haven't felt the need to try any others. But I'll keep the Molicel 26A in mind if they're what Dan recommends.

In other news, look what my dumbass did last night

Rip stem #1. I am glad I bought extra stems up front!

Speaking of which, this should be my wake-up call to go talk to @Ed's TnT about one of his pretty handmade wood Nomad stems!

@VaporWare , All batteries should feel similar once they start to drop around the 3.5v range. It's the voltage that determines the wattage output of the heater.

What I mean by, "they last forever", is that they stay in the optimal 4.2v - 3.7v range for longer.

So far I have never felt the need to check voltage. Performance drop is absolutely clear. When I swap cells, they're pretty much always at the 3.5v range. My charger shows voltage.

I would say that It's important to check voltage on the charger for a while to get an idea of where you are at. Experience tells me that everyone vapes differently, so what I may deem a very obvious performance drop...others may feel different.

@Ramahs, Ah damn! Well at least it's an easy swap-out, heh.

Thanks! I guess it should have been obvious that the drop off would still be there at a safe voltage, but I was concerned it might be more gradual and harder to notice.

I’m glad it sounds like you’d have to run it for a while after a clear performance drop to get to an unsafe voltage, and I’ll just check the voltage on the charger for a while when I switch cells to be sure I’m noticing at the right time.

Unless there are any other batteries people are liking as much, I guess I’ll just pick up a few Molicel 26As soon! :)

Yeah. that wasn't a problem.

I just felt stupid. Set it on an armoire/cabinet on, and did something stupid by moving something that knocked it off. Then I watched in what felt like slow motion terror as it tipped end over end in the air as it fell, landing right on the stem :ugh:

Makes me think I should see if I could get a bundle of these stems from you...as I expect this device to be around for a while otherwise.

Uhhh yeah, you might oughta get at me bro.

Indeed. I think I shall me messaging you soon. Thanks brother

sketches are so nice, thanks for sharing Dan! feel super lucky to be in this first batch, definitely makes me forget missing out on a nomad1.

happy to wait as long as is needed, as i know this will be something that outlasts most other vaporizers simply due to the design... and the looks (and performance, from what i hear) ain't too shabby either

Yes,Thats awesome @Dan Morrison Some niffty ideas you have there. Beaded lanyards, double layer case and cool pouches. Would be pretty cool to have some hand turned beads. As usual I'm blown away by the intricacy of even a sketch book of yours. Can't wait for my 1 but just as pumped to plan and start paying down a 2 lol. Oh man I see big things this year for vapes. Also thanks for the direction on batteries got 4 otw.

So looking forward to this bro, after seeing a few of the great Nomads you did for others out in Vegas this past week I cant wait to finally have one of the 2s. I tried like hell to score one off the guys who had theirs but was not happening.

Got my block of slammed armenian walnut burl out to you this past monday. Super excited to see all the great units you got coming out and especially mine.

Wish you well brother and look to hear from you soon.

Hey everyone!

That's looks fantastic and really completes the Nomad to me. The glass air-path really detracts to the overall aesthetics in my opinion.

I for one LOVE the flavor that wood gives the herb. It's one of the only reasons I still put my mflb to good use.

Earthling flora is... fascinating.
You are SUCH an artist, and it shines through in your presentation, the way you build, the way you share your designs, everything. It leaks through with every peek you allow us into the interworkings of your process, and I am so thankful (even honored?) that you've shared your artistry and skill with others.
