The Nomad From Morwood

Just a thought...The discussion about the sleeves seems to be just a tad misleading. The sleeves are pretty, and in the Nomad 1 were a functional and integral part of its design. The sleeve held the battery/heater cover to the body of the Nomad. The Chiyogami Paper is beautifully printed; Dan used his artistic eye to fashion a beautiful, functional, meticulously crafted sleeve. But isn't the real beauty of Dan's work his high level of craftsmanship and mechanical workmanship? The paper is beautiful, but to me it is the design, function, fit, and finish of his workmanship that showcases the beauty of the Nomad. I have very limited hand dexterity, and my concern in being able to remove the sleeve forced me to cancel my Nomad build. I was hoping Dan would design a Nomad without the sleeve being necessary and am all in on the Nomad 2. It has a much more Zen aesthetic, and its design is gracefully subtle and flawlessly machined. Very refined and shows Dan's attention to details in seeking of perfection. Suffice it to say, Dan's mindset, honed skills, and artistic designs make him a throwback to what is rarely found any longer an artisan designer. The masters of their craft. Sound like a frigging cheerleader, but knowing Dan, through here and correspondence, it is great to be involved in supporting his work, he is a man of integrity and truly remarkable skills. So Nomad or Nomad 2 the beauty is so much more than skin deep, but we all know that :peace:. I am 67 years still a-live and kickin'.

Ha yeah I came across a few of those comments re-reading parts of thread yesterday.

Sometimes I like to sit and stare at https://m.imgur.com/a/TRRqbgO and try to decide what woods I'm going to choose. Maybe I need a few more months to decide haha. I can't wait to see what others have come up with in the recent batch, there is no shortage of options that's for sure.

Earthling flora is... fascinating.
Ive considered making a sleeve sleeve for mine but thats just me wanting to protect it. Who am I kidding this nomad isn't traveling anywhere. Mine may need a name change. Like the Dan Morrison "Precious". Seriously velour lined devoted shelf for this one. Well that's till I get further up on the 2 list. Lol. Would like to see more sleeves but maybe getting a leather guy to do a sexy little pouch would be sick. Oh I want it so bad I'm filling the void w shenanigans
Get out of my head, dude! I was thinking of getting a leatherworking friend to commission a custom sleeve or pocket when I get mine just to make sure I protect the wood in the long term. I'm a clumsy fucker, and it would be a shame to never take it out and about because I fear my own coordination skills

I am so excited for Sunday’s ‘Batch 4’ update that I can hardly contain myself. For those that are not in the loop, this will hopefully be when we get to see pictures of our completed Nomad’s for the very first time :luv::love:

I’ve watched with interest the debate about the sleeve. I too was disappointed when Dan first made his announcement about the Nomad II. With the benefit of hindsight, this was not so much due to the change in design but because of the sudden and startling realisation that the Nomad I had been contemplating, deliberating and excitedly looking forward to for so many months was now no longer going to come into existence. It was a fork in the road, the end of a dream… and I was in mourning :cry::cry:

I’m delighted to say that for me, that’s not where the story ends. I’m not usually lucky but every dog has his day and I was fortunate beyond belief to be given a late opportunity to join Batch 4 and commission the very last Nomad I, which I am now eagerly awaiting

It is possible to appreciate the Nomad on so many levels (functional design, beautiful aesthetic, craftmanship, options for personalisation, longevity, ease of maintenance, serviceability, uniqueness, rarity etc) but what may not be so apparent is the journey you get to go on when YOUR Nomad is in production. Dan’s bi-weekly updates go far and beyond what anyone might reasonably expect from an artisan manufacturer but they are an absolute joy to behold. The beautiful photography and in depth explanations of what has been happening in his workshop over the last two weeks make the process so involving that you almost don’t want the journey to end. I for one know that I will greatly miss Dan’s email dropping into my inbox every Sunday but I comfort myself by knowing that very soon, I will have MY Nomad (#132), which I can cherish and enjoy until the day that I shuffle off this mortal coil.

As journeys end draws near, I feel absolutely thrilled and extremely privileged to have been a part of it and am already looking forward to re-entering the departure lounge when I get the order call for my Nomad II.

Thank you so very much Dan Morrison, I salute you :clap::clap:

Honestly, I prefer the look of the nomad II. There are just a handful of images of the I that get me and make me sad I didn't discover FC until a couple of months ago. Still, I'm excited to be on the Nomad II waitlist and I'm pretty sure it'll be my daily driver once I get it. With this, my GH, and my VC, I don't think I'll need anything else

Until the VAS hits, at least :ninja: my bank account is eagerly waiting my turn.

It makes sense to me to let the wood shine, and give Dan less time consuming stuff to do so we can all get Nomads quicker :)

Also, you clearly need a desktop vape in your line up ;)

Yeah, that too! It looked like the sleeves took up a ton of time. Plus, like you said, the woods being given their time to shine is probably my favorite thing about the Nomad II. All the exotic wood options are just so gorgeous.

Oh no, I knew I would find something else to covet! Time to look up desktop options...

Ha, it seems that I was a little bit premature!

Apologies to all those waiting for some new Nomad ‘porn’ but you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer. There is one more batch 4 update to come, which will be in two weeks time. Fortunately I’m enjoying the journey so much that I’m in no hurry for it to end!

I am trying my best to pretend my Nomad isn’t close to being finished because I know it is probably still several weeks away from making it into my hands.
I was doing really well, until this last update... now I have to find something to occupy my time until it finally arrives.
I am trying to find the perfect case for it - because if ever a vape needs its own special case, this is the one.
Two questions for current owners:

1) what are the exact dimensions of Nomad? The closest I could find on this thread was that it was similar to the FM Nano (thanks @KeroZen ) It is possibly buried somewhere, my apologies if I missed it.

2) Anyone care to post pics of their Nomads tucked into their case? @Ramahs - I definitely remember yours, and loved it, although you went a little bigger to fit all of the accoutrements.

Thanks!

Exact dimensions of production unit are:
3.36" High, 1.77" Wide, 0.89" Thick.
Or in metric, 85mm x 45mm x 22.6mm

I’m not sure if that includes the sleeve or not, and I don’t think that includes the stem which sticks out 5/8” if it’s in. 4x2x1 usable space should probably cover it with maybe a little room to spare.

The Nomad II is a little taller, but similar I think.

If that's for a Nomad 1, I'm using the following which is silly cheap. Fits the device with a cell inside, as well as two extra cells (you can cram a 3rd one actually but it becomes a tad crowded)

I know these links are kinda short lived so it will be probably gone pretty fast... But here's a pic for reference so you know what to look for:

Search keywords are "hard case bose travel" apparently... To make sure you found the right one its external dimensions must be H/W/D = 115/55/50 millimeters.

Yeah I know it's a bit of a shame to put such a pricey beauty inside el cheapo Chinese shell, but it's sober and functional, and it offers adequate protection.

A big part of the Nomad's lure for me was its pocketability. When I was going to use it out and about, it was in my pocket, almost unnoticeable. Like the Fury in that regard. So a case was never part of my usage. It's a rugged little thing. I was always operating under the assumption (yeah I know) that once the paper cover wore out (didn't come close to getting there) I'd re-up with a new cover. Mine looks lightly used at worst even after a drop or two and many pocket-hours logged.

The second sleeve was definitely something I wanted down the line. Obviously w the release of the 2 I think I may have to change my plans as I will have to squeeze that into the budget on the dl before the wife kills me. Not sure if that far down the line Dan will even consider doing a 2nd. I just paid off my 1 and i am impatiently waiting. Got a little excited that I'd get a peek this week, but thats ok. I can bare it a little longer. Thought maybe I could distract w picking wood choices for my 2 and adding extra glass and parts onto my order ,.only to realize I did it already. Funny cause the wood choices I picked this time Are very close 2nd time around. Guess I can ask to the existing owners. Add on accessories? Anyone have the new mist vape stem ? Also have seen some Eds and kgwoodcraft stems anybody use these. I just need some side distraction. Tell me what I'm missing. Lol. Do I dare ask if anyone has put theirs need a waterpiece.? Idk is may be a recliner and bed portable only. Although I do here it's alot sturdier then I'd imagine. Soon cant come soon enough.
