Let's talk desktops!

Earthling flora is... fascinating.
User @Ramahs mentioned desktops in another thread I was commenting in, and it got me thinking...

I've learned a ton about portables in the time I've been here, but I don't know a thing about desktops!

'A flowerpot is a vape? What is an enail? Volcano, like in Hawaii? How do you even USE a log? The hell is a hybrid?' are some of my basic thoughts when I scrolled through a few threads about them.

I figured I might as well ask instead of floundering around ignorantly, so here we go:

  • I'm a student in my mid-twenties, and i have a few friends who partake, but don't seem to be into vaping. Still, I'd like something I could use with them for when they (hopefully) want to try it, that isn't too user unfriendly.

  • I'm in an illegal state, but I'm close enough to a legal one that I wouldn't mind traveling with it if needed, and I don't have a problem getting great quality strains where I currently reside (we don't have legal cannabis on Mars!), and I have two roommates who do NOT smoke. So something maybe not too large, but also a bit inconspicuous if I accidentally left it out (I got the grasshopper for the same reason).

  • My budget isn't huge, but I'm planning on shopping for this late 2020 (when I have more disposable income again), so I have time to save if there's a desktop I just HAVE to save for.

  • Also, I don't have access to concentrates, but I see many desktops seem to also allow you to use concentrates. Is there a benefit to getting something that can do both, or will it not matter for me?

I also don't know the difference between many of these desktops and what they do, so I was hoping I'd learn a bit more here. I've lurked a number of threads, but my lack of experience lessens my ability to really understand.

Thanks for the help, everyone. :peace::love:and:leaf:

For a moderately-priced entry-level desktop, I'd reccomend a Da Buddha, or the higher end Silver Surfer...both from 7th Floor (click here for their website). They are simple and effective.

If you want one of the most efficient desktop vapes that is a little more inconspicuous, then maybe get a log, like a Woodscents, Enano, or Underdog vaporizer. (the names are clickable links that take you to their websites). Also...some logs, like the Woodscents, come with a glass bowl attachment that you can drop-in to inconspicuously use them as an essential oil/aromatherapy diffuser device when you are not using it as a vaporizer. It's about as inconspicuous as one can get.

In my opinion, you can't get much more efficient and simple to use than a log. Everyone should have a log in their vaporizer collection.

If you accidentally left it out and on with heated components some unwitting and noisy roommate could burn themselves or worse yet that could cause a fire? I would not want to use a desktop in your situation. You’re still in school and living with two potential rats, all you have to do is rub someone the wrong way and yet then what? Arrest? Criminal Record before you even finish school? What job prospects would you have if such a series of events happened?

Not knowing what vapes you already have I would look at quasi portable powerhouses like the Splinter Z and avoid desktops until you’re in a better controlled housing situation. With the Z my only concern would be having 18650s around, they’re powerful and possibly dangerous if not properly taken care of and imho an external quality charger like a Nitecore is a must.

Its the user as much as is the vape, some folks get the hang of using one quickly, others never do. Find the vape that works for you so you can help others. Folks have already mentioned log vapes and the 7th Floor vapes which I agree are good candidates.

Log vapes are your best choice for compact desktops IMO. The 7h Floor models just scream drug gear and they are much bigger then logs.

E Nano kits start around $200.00 US and the 7th Floor, Da Buddha is about the same.

There are tons of other vapes out there that do as good or perhaps better jobs but these are the ones I can vouch for. Good Luck

Whooooa, I didn't know there were so many different logs. Thank you SO much. I watched Troy's review of Ed's to kind of see the average size of them and they're much smaller than I thought they would be (I figured they were the size of actual logs LOL like 4 tp rolls stacked together).

I really like the look of da buddha, but like someone already said, it really is very obviously drug-looking.

My Vapir Rise 2.0 was a crazy desktop vape to use with friends. I haven’t used it in ages. A lot of parts to clean. But I always enjoyed using that thing.

Oh man, my friends are HUGE into hookah, so that hookah attachment would be a hit with them. I was actually looking around for a "hookah, but in a vape" type machine, so thank you so much for your suggestion. I'd not heard of it otherwise. Are there any other desktop vapes that have hookah-like set ups? Or is that something I can do with all of them?

We're not all crammed into one room, don't worry! We're all adults who typically don't touch things that don't belong to us ;) We do interact, though, and they'll come in my room and hang out. I meant I was looking for something that I wouldn't have to unpack and pack over and over every time I use it, like I've have to do with a bong/grav to keep it out of sight.

Thanks for your concern though! I don't think they'd rat me out, we've lived together for a while now. But that is a good point. I only own two other vapes (the GH and the dynavap M), so I'm just starting out. I'll check out the Z thread for more info on it.

Thank you for your concern. My excitement for more vapes didn't take much of that into account.

Thank you! Glad to see 7th floor and logs echo'd in the thread, because I honestly wasn't aware of them otherwise. The only desktop I really see people talk about is the volcano (which I'd probably never pick up) and the flowerpot (which looks simultaneously like a cooking device and a drug device somehow).

Unless my housing situation changes or there are more secret hookah-like vapes, I'm really feeling these logs.

Hey Martian, I get lost when it comes to hookahs could you please point me towards an example of one. Thanks
Yeah, sure! Here's an example of the type of hookah we've used in the past:
41v7fMa5UUL._AC_SY400_.jpg

I'm basically wondering if there are any desktops that let me use multiple whips in a similar way a hookah does. We typically use the 2 or 4 person set up.

Plenty of desktop that use whips (hoses). Not many that allow you to hook up 4 at once.
Ah, I see. So I can use the whip, but probably only one. Gotcha. Thank you.

How about matching this Hookah Type of "party-Bong" from Black Leaf with the Herborizer?

https://www.grasscity.com/black-leaf-4-hose-communal-party-bong.html

"TI"

https://herborizer.com/en/vaporizer-ti/18-vaporizer-bubbler-ti.html

"XL" (older model)

https://herborizer.com/en/system-xl/12-system-xl-188.html

I think this could work, because this vape has a big bowl and the amount of vapor could serve 2-4 people simultaneously.
I have this vaporizer, but never tried this combo so far.

The VapeXhale Cloud EVO is a premium desktop option that is discrete as well as good for single and multi use.

Based on what you shared I would think a MiniVap might be the best for you. It can be a portable or a desktop. It rips good.

Agree with others that a log might be another good choice.

Otherwise a Splinter or 510 based dry flower vape or a TinyMight.

For me
1)Glass Symphony
2)New Vape VROD or Weed Ester
3)MiniVap
4) TinyMight
5) log
6) Dynavap

The first two in the list require a PID controller to work.

I am eyeing a Herborizer Digiti or a new all glass path desktop.

I always recommend a log. Unless you're doing groups a lot. They're so efficient they pay for themselves in no time. I leave mine plugged in 24/7. It's always ready to go whenever I am. Plus they're art pieces in their own right. And versatile in that you can go dry or pair with a nice water piece easily. If I could only have one vape, it would be a log. Super simple.

My next recommendation is the EVO. Followed up with the Life Saber Vaporizer (LSV). Easier to store than other 7th Floor vapes.

Edit* Don't be afraid to try a vape out. You'll be able to get most of your money back if you decide to sell it if it isn't for you.

And, as another prop for logs, this is one of my favorite setups with my Woodscents logs that I use almost every day (both these pics I posted on Ed's Woodscents thread recently):

And this is the kinda performance I can get from it with a surprisingly small amount of herb!!!:

IMG-2006.jpg

^ And that is entirely tasty vapor. The herb in the ~half filled Dynavap bowl was still fairly green after that! So, you can turn it up and pack a punch like this with one of these logs if you really want to, or you can just turn it down and suck on it all evening (you're welcome, Posts Taken out of Context Thread :whip:).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!

Now I'm stuck between the Vapir Rise 2.0 (250? if I found the right version), the VapeXhale Cloud EVO (but 439 for the hookah kit! Ouch!), and one of the three log vapes (which seem to be 250-300 on average). I might just get a log period and also a desktop for sharing with friends? Do you think that would be overkill? I read too much of the EVO thread and now I gotta talk myself out of budgeting for that one...

BIG apology in advance for all the typing I'm about to do. I'm real wordy and I love going back and forth when I'm figuring thing out.

You could definitely use this with a NewVape FlowerPot, but neither setup will blend in or be quick to put away. Someone should make stem/lampshade holders for vapes like the Cloud EVO. With the right lamp shade on top no one will know unless they went to turn it on. Could do the same with a log, but most are smaller and more easily stow-able.
That's a good idea, actually! A lot of these could pass for lamps with a shade on. +1 to the EVO if I can make it blend in fairly well. Luckily, the "aromatherapy" cups that most logs supply is perfect stealth for me, since my roomies know I love that hippie shit. They wouldn't question it.

Thanks! I'll look more into that one!
I'm glad this thread brought log vapes to my attention, I'm loving them more the more I learn about em.

How much would "a lot" be in this case? My friends and I do group stuff maybe 4-8 times a month, so once or twice a week (more once than twice now that we're all working) and I'm usually over at their place instead of my own, so the smaller portability of a log is really appealing to me. Keep it plugged in when I need to at home, then pack that sucker in a pelican case once a week for DnD sessions or parties.

Also a good point! I could just resell anything I don't want, since vapes do have good resell value. I'll be honest, I hadn't kept that in mind. The EVO is a lot more appealing than it was, now.

Aaah, this is BEAUTIFUL! You've converted me, dammit! Now I'm thinking I could just get a log, and then maybe a glass piece for sharing with friends?

Like this hookah that vapeman posted:

But I'll be honest, I watched a few Herborizer videos and had no idea what some of those parts were, and got a bit intimidated. But I love the idea of the log+bong/hookah combo. It might be the one thing that could get my friends off of combustion (tried with a dynavap, and no dice; they said it looks like a "fancy crack pipe"), while also giving me a good alternative to dosing throughout the day/afternoon at home (dyna is great, but I hate using a torch each time, and I only ever use my GH when I'm out and need to medicate stealthily).

EDIT: I also want to add that I appreciate the kindness and willingness to help that I've seen time and time again on this forum. Especially with questions that I'm sure are super newby and that you've all heard before. You dudes are alright

I like the Rise 2.0 cause it’s comes in at $200. Has single whip, quad whip or even does balloons. The darn thing so versatile. And it has a fan for the balloons to fill but can use fan assist when you are using whips. I rarely used that feature on whips. But it is there if you want it.

A log will work in a group. It just has to be "reloaded" more often due to its' use of smaller amounts of material. The upside to that is the taste is almost always fresh since you'll be loading it after everyone takes a turn. No burnt popcorn taste when the bowl is still going.

Not overkill at all. Many of us here have different vapes for different situations.

Some heavy user told me about a year ago that the WS produces big clouds as the Glass Symphony XLR does. I never tried the WS, only the GS, and I'm not sure it is possible to beat the GS because its heater is just huge, but even if he was right about that in 80%..... If i had the money to buy a single desktop one, I'd pick the WS. easy pluggin- 12V 1A, Won't get broken, titanium heater... small, he sends few stems and cap+dynavap tip...

Gotcha, gotcha. That's a bit of a downside when I usually hang with 4-6 people, but I'm still pretty sold on a log, honestly. I'm going to be looking through threads for all the vapes you all have mentioned here and see reviews to see which would fit my needs the most. Luckily, I'll have a few months to save before the big sales come back around.

Ha! So it’s not just me who sees an “M” and not the actual “r n”.
And the avatar looks Martian-like, I assume, by design @rnartian ?
Sorry, OT, but been meaning to comment about it.
Yes, actually! I wanted "Martian", but it was taken, so I went with the next best thing
And yes, it is by design. The Martian Queen was my favorite character as a kid! I feel super lame admitting that.
