Flavor seems dull, but it does seem to cool pretty well. For the moment I have it set up with a 100 micron fine SS screen. I'll try a normal weave later for fun.

Try a standard pipe screen, not domed and no bigger than 1/2". Anytime I use a screen with a fine mesh, Evo ELB or other wise, it's much different than without a screen or minimal course mesh pipe screen.

Edit:

Just got home from work. Client brought me a kitten, "Gizmo." I call him "jr." because we had a Gizmo growing up.

Anyway, in a good mood, playing with the cat. I reached for Grav tapered stem with all the options that I got.... Level 3, then 4, then 6, then 9. Blue sugar cookie.

But I hangout on level 3 and 4 the vast majority of the time. That's different then when I didn't have the Grav stem.

I would like to add that one can use an optional stealth mode, I'm quoting @khelek41girl again from another forum:

Very true! I usually will let go off the button three or four seconds prior to the end of the hit – and I do notice that since I do that the battery will give me some more sessions too. :-)

Yeah, actually quite a bit – the specs say that the TM will push up to 70 watts of power, hence I prefer to stick with the stock VTC6 batteries and will not even try to use ones with lower current discharge amps. Here's a table with some recommendations for current discharge vs. watts for e cigarette users:

entladestrom.jpg

So for one battery at ~70 watts a battery should be able to take ~25A of current discharge – and since in session mode that would actually be *constant* current discharge (as opposed to pulse discharge like with an e cig or in on-demand mode), I think it's a good idea to follow the makers recommendations.

I don’t know much about batteries or heaters, but I’m guessing that in session mode the wattage does vary. It seems if it was constant, the unit would waaayyyy overheat and the batteries would be unsafe.

Of course, I’m sticking with VTC6 batteries, ‘cause I’m cautious and I may be wrong. :)

Yeah, you're right, it's probably pulsing or alternating wattage in session mode too, since the coil at some point will retain heat.

I'm used to think supersafe when it comes to batteries – with e cigs you actually never have a constant discharge (most mods will stop power after ten seconds), yet we always refer to the constant discharge amp numbers from the batteries specs.

@MonkeyTime - with regard to the temp control button. I suspect there is a flange of sorts added to the dial on the inside. Yours may not be fully engaged. I would email the maker/seller and ask if this is something you can solve.
And if you do remove the bottom screw in a possible procedure, could you posts its length please?

Sorry it's taken so long. The screw is a SS - M4 x 7.5cm from end to bottom of shoulder. This bolt was cut to this length and is part of the current path and needs to be tight. This was explained to me in very clear terms.

These glass stems are growing on me, but I'm in no condition to judge anything right now. The oblong stem is already second nature, bring to mouth, turn to correct.

The backside of the heater was also requested, sorry, forgot by who and didn't find the request very easily. There's not much to see from here, it's not bad to put back together for someone that does this type of stuff and is comfortable. You do need to line things up at an angle and work the button/dial/usb port and such all at the same time, so if you're not a tinkerer, may not be for you.

I was told about the heater and going beyond this, until I have a spare, it isn't a journey I care to start. That screw is the heater mount and if tension is lost, a short is inevitable.

@Siebter you are absolutely right about the stealth mode, I should have mentioned that in fairness.

@Brewervapesalot I've tried the fine screen both flattened into the bottom and inverted so it's cupped towards the mouthpiece. I'm hoping to hang in there long enough tonight to try some standard screens and without.

does the session mode drain the battery quicker ? I've only used it once so far so i'm just curious.

It's nice to see some comparisons of stems and cooling units other than the original. to its credit the TM seems to holds its own just the way its offered, but who doesn't like accessories.

I am still impressed. Cool massive clouds with ease. Tiny form factor. The fact there is a dial instead of a temp display, does not bother me. It never bothered me on the volcano classic either.

Using just the cooling unit screen it seems to clog quick. Ill put a dome screen in next time. I tried a rim screen and it always seems to catch on the oring and come off.

Not got to grips with all the button combo yet.

Probably depends on the usage, I've only used the session mode to take one long hit through water without having to hold down the button. I have an OCD about clearing vapor in my pure convection on demand vapes, makes it very difficult to finish a hit while leaving the heater activated and the stem inserted... I mean I'd like to just put it on session mode and keep puffing, but my mind could not ignore where the vapor might be going in between my inhales lol

I am officially extending my extended honeymoon..... haaaa

I will say...out of all my vapes...this one shines as being the one you just like to setup and use. For me this is just because of how simple and fast it is. It sort of simulates me being able to do combustion B hits with the wpa stem method. This is what I really like about it...there is just such little fuss about it.

A dear friend recently abandoned vaporizing after becoming reacquainted with the speed of a one hitter + lighter... this vape sounds perfect for them, I only wish I would have ordered one weeks ago so I'd have one to show off :D

How's the battery life averaging out for ya?

Battery life is pretty good if not better than most portables.....especially if you are just taking 4-8 second pulls all the time with herb. But with a healthstone and concentrates.....turning up 8-9+ on the dial and taking longer draws...it uses much more....but I have not done back to back sessions with that setup to find out average bowls per charge. It didn't seem to kill the battery hard that I have seen so far.

I use mine in session mode 90% of the time. Battery life seems as good if not better then other single 18650 portables. I’m getting 8-10 bowls on Ave.

I think of it more as a “hands free” mode then session. There’s really nothing That makes it act like a session vape. It extracts just as fast if not even faster then ODM. I should time them but I think my average session is about 1-1.5min with the TM.

Its a real nice feature if you are sharing with a friend. No explanation of use needed. Downside on battery drain would be if your friends like to use the vape as a microphone in between draws.

I’m my experience using 510 style vapes in cruise mode they usually drop to 9-11w to maintain temp when your not drawing on it. So it shouldn’t have too much impact on battery life, especially just using it solo.

Couple of questions for people that have taken the cooling unit apart.

It looks like I could take it apart by hand without a torx driver. Could I get it back together by hand or would I need a Torx?

Has anyone tried leaving some of the metal out of the unit to alter its cooling and how did it work?

Thanks.

@ominosity – That screw is not a Torx, but a hexagon. You won't need a screwdriver for both disassembling or reassembling.

Haven't tried leaving out parts.

Thanks for the info. I had a go and left out one nut and one washer and got the slight increase in vapour temperature that I was looking for. I think I’ll keep it like this for now.

Does anyone know what the current wait time is for a preorder?

I only placed my order around a week ago.....

Thank you @MonkeyTime for the image at the heater. That was my request. I don't blame you for not going the last step with the screw. I wouldn't have either.

Did the increased countersink in the aluminum cover fix the screw head protrusion?

Okay, I fold on replacing the screw. McMaster-Carr can't do M4x75 or better in stainless steel. Since it was trimmed to size I can see this as an M4x80 minus a bit.
Back to the cork, felt, or leather stick-on booties.

About how many hits with the largest packing the stem can take do you get on average with out having to reload ? Has anyone combusted yet using this or is more forgiving than most on-demand units out ? Ty

It is pretty forgiving....but you get vapor so fast you really dont get close to combusting using medium or medium high temps. I have only use the upper temps for doing concentrates....no need to go over 6 on the dial with flower for me.

I use a short RBT 18mm jointed stem ...then in any rig. There is lots of space for load size when not using the cooling unit. I can pack .25 no prob and have way more draws then needed for a single session. No need to use the CU with water or maybe even a water-less rig or j hook.
