Volcano Hybrid

At first I shelved mine, because my wife has health issues and we're specifically trying to heavy metal detox.
Aluminium is not a heavy metal and not particularly toxic. But it shouldn't be there and is not a metal needed for humans (like Iron, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper). Toxic heavy metals are Lead, Mercury, Arsenic, Cadmium. Some heavy metals are not toxic like Gold for example. There are some studies that find linkage between aluminium exposure and Alzheimer's, but other studies show no linkage.

I'm using mine but keeping it clean and being extra careful to minimize metal on metal friction that scratches the aluminium oxide coating when putting the heating chamber on. I'm hoping S&B do this the right way and solves this issue cleanly in the end. I don't think it's a health threat if you are careful but we shouldn't end up with a version 1 of the Volcano Hybrid that has a low resale value and is inconvenient to use. If S&B provides a clean solution without the need to RMA, then that's really great. But if not and the solution feels more like a temporary patch, then they should permit those that prefer it to RMA and get a proper fix. They will need to solve this properly for the production line models and we deserve the same quality considering that issues involving health cannot be seen as normal product upgrades we can't expect to be retrofitted.

you shouldn´t have to be "careful" when using a vaporizer..especially not when using such a premium device. and i will give you my opinion, you won´t get a new Hybrid from them, you will be left with the ring and inlay and that was it. if aluminium is bad or not doesn´t even matter at this point.

it is obvious that they are trying it the cheap way, otherwise they would have made a big recall. but a 12bucks ring is the cheaper solution than recalling the devices. they wouldn´t give people the ring if they are planning to give them a revised Volcano, anyone who believes they will do is naive.

that being said, i will leave the thread for the week, i just have enough of this whole affair. one thing is for sure, this was the biggest bad buy since a long time for me and from here i will not buy any S & B products in the future. their handling and communication is pathetic and not adequate at all.

Be careful airing your opinions on here, or your will get an essay from mods who probably don't even own the thing.

I don't believe they'll make a new hybrid. Or at least if they do, we'll have much more leverage for getting replacements ('why keep a product you won't even sell?') I just don't think they would sacrifice the 45 second heat up time when that's a huge part of the device's USP. SS simply wouldn't perform as well, and they obviously won't do titanium. If you look on s&b's site, it currently says the hybrid comes with "1 pc. Filling Chamber (including: 1 pc. Cap Ring," which makes me think it's just part of the unit now. Vapcap has a cap. Volcano has a heating ring. They should dress it up as an "aircraft grade steel conduction ring designed by nasa" or something lol. Highly doubt they will redesign the inside though; it remains a stellar performing vape.

Also, side note. I got a replacement housing from s&b, just the housing. Definitely seems like a different materiel, or at least a different finish. Much more grainy and shiny looking plastic, my original is not grainy at all and has a dull matte finish. Tried to photograph but it didn't look that noticeable but I'm pretty sure something is different. Could be wrong, might just be because it's new and I'm just too high again but just reporting what I see.

If it's not a loose SS ring, then I think it's a clean solution and maybe the best of both worlds. It would still mostly rely on Aluminium for the heat transfer from the Aluminium heat sink and some sort of thin SS ring that snaps on to the aluminium ring and can't fall off would remove any scratching of the Aluminum ring. It would also be easier to just add this on the production line model. As long as the Aluminium metal on metal friction is completely removed, then the thin Aluminium Oxide layer will not flack off by itself. But for that to work and be safe, the SS ring has to be attached somehow to either the Aluminium ring or to the surrounding plastic ring.

I'm curious about your observations on the heating chamber housing you think may be using a different plastic. Why did S&B send you a new heating chamber housing? Did you have any melting issues? I've not seen any on my unit, but I don't leave the heating chamber on the hybrid very long as I mostly use the balloons and my Hybrid isn't even a month old yet.

Crafty Vaper

Ain't easy being green
My housing and the whip attachment lost the small orange nipples! :\ No melting but the nipples fell off by normal use. I wrote S&B last weekend now waiting for reply (Yes they are slow but solved my issues every time)
The same thing happened to me with the Crafty 1.0! I was one of the first buyers in 2014! Different parts of the Crafty broke off and I had software issues with the second or third one too. My second Crafty (S&B sent me a new one) was better but not perfect! The fifth Crafty I got from Storz&Bickel (every time a complete new unit) was perfect! It works since Juli 2016! I switched the battery twice myself! It has now nearly 700 hours on its clock and still rocks!

What I want to say is that I believe that they will improve the Hybrid like they did with the Crafty (now Crafty+) until it is the perfect vape machine that we all deserve! Vape on!

No melting for me, I just wanted a new one for free: the clips came loose and it was annoying burning my finger every time I wanted to empty the bowl right after using it (because it would fall out of the housing otherwise.)
The replacement I got is probably the same materiel, it's just louder when you scratch it... that's the best way I can explain how the texture is different. My original feels smoother, new one - like I was saying - more grainy feeling and shiny. Other than the finish I can't tell if it's different in any other way so could just be difference between used and new. Both weigh the same anyway.

im pretty annoyed at the design.... but if the aluminum performs better than the SS.... I may just continue to use the aluminum. Man I wish i didnt use the brush to clean all the surfaces when I first got the thing. Im worried i brushed tons of aluminum dust around before I knew it was an issue

Cream city vapes says their shipping lead time is 1-2 weeks. I think that's a good indication on the timeline some who are looking for answers need.

My bet is that they are in high gear to get this solved and behind them. 4/20 is coming up and i am sure they know to get this done with enough time for people to feel comfortable before the biggest cannabis product sales day of the year.

I am hoping they release the Mighty+ near 4/20

How often do you change your volcano air filter?

All of a sudden my volcano is extremely harsh - like burning my throat harsh! I’ve only had it for two months, but I use it constantly and leave it on constantly. I also will run high temperatures. Most days I will have well over twenty bags.

Do any heavy medications change their filter every (or every other) month? Like I said, I’ve only had my Volcano for two months...even after new bags/screens/cleaning today my throat is on fire!! The only thing I can think of is that air filter, any opinion is appreciated!

Have you changed your weed recently? I used to blame my vapes for performance issues when all along it was inferior weed.

have you changed your inhalation technique? Over the years my inhale has gotten much bigger and harsher simply from the dense vapor.

turn the heat down?

introduce a more complex water pipe like a honeycomb for better diffusion?

I placed my order through the App a while back & it was nice & easy.
I’m hoping the SS chamber will be similar but maybe just take a slightly longer heat up time, I dunno.
No shipping yet but if they can get these sent I think it’s a mammoth effort in such a short amount of time, I’ve seen software updates take longer. Especially since half of this was just based on feedback from a bunch of people on the internet who have trouble spelling.

Just pulled out my filter and it’s yellow. Only been using it for two months!

Anyone change their filters on the reggie? I like to change my car’s oil often. I like to change my volcano’s air filter even more often??

edit - with a new filter it’s like pulling on soft fluffy clouds - with my old filter my lungs were on fire after a puff. I will be changing my filter monthly from here on out...

so to be clear: no one has gotten their SS ring chamber thingy yet, right?

i swear vaporooni was saying his shipped. didn't hear anything from him about it after presumably receiving it.

What happened was I ordered a new housing also for the SS ring set from S&B. I receive an email saying you have a package being sent. When I opened the package, The housing for the SS chamber was the only thing S&B sent. Two weeks later, I decided to use the new housing for the metal chamber. The new housings are higher quality than the one that came with my Hybrid. The clips that hold the herb chamber are stronger and durable.

The plastic looks grainier and doesn't flex when I apply pressure. Also the chamber only touches the clips. Without the clips, The chamber sits to low, Causing friction with the metal when the valve is screwed onto the Hybrid. I would replace the valve if the clips are broken. The valve now is airtight with the clips and my ABV looks darker. I would keep the lower chamber together, So the clips stay in tact. Just brush the lower chamber off, Never soak in ISO. This will weaken the housing and the clips will break off. The metal upper chamber can pop out easy and soaked in ISO and rinsed with water.

I have had mine for quite a while. My solution to the harshness was buying a Obsidian and it has worked wonders. Ill have to check my filter because I have a slight feeling that my Volcano also started to get harsher over time.

EDIT: Never mind my filter is very clean, just took a look at it and put it back in.

Ive had my Classic for around a decade, have used XL bags 99.9% of the time and have gone through cases and cases of them, put some relatively rough miles on it, brought it to many a desert and in the woods festivals, many mountains, definitely outside of the typical desktop usage and I check the filter every so often and it always looks the same, which is to say exactly like the backup filters that came with the unit oh so long ago that are still in the baggie in the box. Short of someone operating the unit literally on dirt or in a very very dirty/heavy particulate environment, the filter should last a pretty extended period.

Ill also add that the Cano is one of the few things that seem to dry me out and it could be that you just need to add a water tool like the Obsidian to the mix.
