will the flowerpot work with traditional hash?
This is the tech support question in my zendesk inbox today.
Can anyone help me here? At shows we attend people wait in line to squish their traditional hash into beautiful golden rosin on our presses. Can the heat be turned up to 750 and melt the traditional hash on the vrod's sic dish? Although this would certainly combust any flower. I suppose I can answer yes the flowerpot will work with traditional hash via our 20ton rosin press.

I'd be more inclined to crumble it, if possible, and vape it in the bowl. But yeah, ultimately I'd press and dab it.

I once ordered 1gr of traditional hash and ended up receiving 1oz. I ended up squishing it but before that I had success crumbling in the bowl on a bed of hemp fibre. FP Showered, Temps in the high 7's nice flavourful pulls. It's not the best experience but the Flowerpot did a far better job then any other vape I tried it in.

Hello, this is Clem Fandango, can you hear me?

Can someone please give me a quick rundown of the do’s and don’ts of capping the Showerhead with the Showercap for flower?

I’ve been having a great time with the SH uncapped anywhere from the low 600s up to 757. Got the Showercap with the wood handle recently and have been trying to get the most out of it thru a Chinesium bent neck pillar with FOL perc.

At 600-685, I’ve tried a combination of capped and uncapped at the beginning of the hit, with both slow and max draws. It seems like anytime the cap goes on, the vapor thins out visibly in the tube even when pulling so hard my cheeks hurt. Can’t get anywhere close to caching a bowl on a single draw and the AVB is uneven/very dark in the middle.

One thing I did learn is that the wood handle and the Showercap will start smoking if I leave it on 685 deg SH for approx 2-3 levels of Donkey Kong Country (~10 mins). Not sure if this is normal, but I now make sure to not leave the SC on the SH for more than a few mins at a time.

I have a FP SH and have had it for a good bit. My experience is very different than yours.

I always cap for the reasons why we use carb caps in dabbing....lower pressure = lower boiling points.

And I have just the opposite take....I get thicker vapor with the cap than without.

I run at 700 F on the PID which means really nothing as a lot depends on how tightly your coil is fitted (and mine is indeed tight) although given enough time to heat soak, I imagine this tends to go away as a factor.

With the SH, the slower the draw the thicker the vapor, IME. Slow let's the air heat up more as it transits the heater head. So, very slow through a rig should result in massive vapor. Does for me, at least.

Best of luck.

Hello. Does anyone notice tiny colorless particles that stick to the inner walls of your glass after using the FP regularly for a long time? I’m talking about particles that are stuck there despite using only distilled water and daily cleaning with iso. Acetone has no affect on them.
A long simple green soak may have done something but it wasn’t super affective.
Anyone know what I’m talking about? I’m looking for a cleaner that will take this off without damaging my glass. Any advice would be appreciated!

Have you tried PBW?

I have the same residue in my glass. I’ve cleaned it several time with a variety of solutions. I’ve tried iso, salt, etc. and nothing really touched it. I let it soak and dry between each clean. I’d be interested to know a good cleaner myself. Unfortunately, I have diffusers and canny clean the glass with a brush.

I had a question about screens for the Flowerpot.

1. NewVape sell standard and double weave titanium screens. Which would you recommend, and why? Are the double weave screens more prone to clogging than the standard screens?

Even though I use them, I have read that it's not a good idea to use brushes on your glass pieces because it weakens the glass leaving the glass more prone to cracking or breaking.

If you haven't already tried it, I would first read and watch some of @t-dubs' posts on using PBW, then give PBW a try...the stuffs amazing!

The Carb Cap sits on the dish so i dont see why not.

NewVape has a new "universal" carb cap...perhaps that would work?

Is it possible to damage my glass with PBW? I’ve heard it’s affective but also heard about someone who left it in too long and stained their glass or something. I have some nice colored glass pieces and I’m extremely hesitant to use anything that could risk them.

Thanks for the advice!

I like the double weave because they prevent significantly more debris from entering your rig. I haven’t found a difference in airflow between the two but maybe others have had a different experience.
The down side is that they cost over $5 a piece, which is a tough pill to swallow for a screen the size of a quarter.
I’d be interested in buying double weaves in bulk if anyone knows of a supplier.

PBW can leave white blotchy stains IF not thoroughly dissolved or IF soaked too long.
- Mix in a separate bowl or pot with very hot water, NOT in your water piece!!!
- fill piece and let it dwell for only 5-10 minutes. Can lightly shake but PBW water is very slippery so careful
- Err on side of less PBW , I use like 1/2 teaspoon in a quart of water

Remember that you can always do another round of PBW to finish, as needed

will the flowerpot work with traditional hash?

It works very well, there are few vapes out there that work as well with hash as the flowerpot imho.

Vaping hash allways is and leeds to more work than vaping pure flower. You have to stir after each 2-3 draws, what's leading to more dirt in the airpath, not to speak about clogged screens in general while vaping good sticky hash.

Best would be to take some grinded flower, only to cover the screen, that's enough. On top you put the hash. This won't clogg your screen, and melted hash in combination with the weed doesn't produce as dusty ABV as hash alone, so there'll be less dirt in the airpath.

If you only can get your hands on hash and no flowers would be available, I would vote the flowerpot best fitting for your needs.

Hello Baron, this is Clem Fandango, can you hear me?

Thanks for the advice.

Looks like my problem is due a big air leak caused by the way the shovel head bowl sits on the wonky joint on this Chinese pipe. When the bowl handle is screwed all the way in against the male post, it tilts/lifts the bowl just enough to let air into the pipe. The air comes in under the screen, thru the visible gap between the inner surface of the bowl and male post.

If I loosen up the handle screw and apply a little downward pressure with the SH while taking a hit, I can create a decent seal between the bottom of the bowl and the flat surface of the joint. This forces all the air thru the hole in the cap, sucking down the vacuum and giving me way thicker and denser vapor than going uncapped. This is a really awkward balancing act though.

Sucks that I can’t get a good enough seal with the stock titanium bowl to really use the Showercap well. I’ve got the stevenmlz79 glass bowl coming from China sometime soon. Hopefully that will seal well to allow me to really start capping up some of these hits.

The only problem i could see is potentially the carb cap not making an ideal seal.

I haven't been firing on all cylinders, been in and out of the hospital, and I accidentally posted my thoughts on this to @newvape918. I'm sure he already knew about their new universal carb cap.

Rather been liking the glass bowls for the Weedeater. BUT, the small provided screens fall out easily, and I may try trimming one of the titanium double weave screens to fit tightly. The glass screen's holes without a metal screen are too big (too much material falls through) and the thickness of the walls means the bowl is a bit smaller than the metal one. I've been wondering about whether a newer version of the glass bowl could be made that is a little taller (for more capacity) and has smaller holes (to remove the need for a metal screen). Cleaning is no problem, I usually just put the whole bowl to soak in ISO for a few hours. I just much prefer the glass bowl, would like to have it work a little better. Thoughts?

I'm having the same issues with the glass bowls and the screens. I had got one of the screens wedged under the bowl which worked well for a while but it ended up getting clogged up way two quickly.

I would also like to be able to use the glass bowl, it seems like we either need different screens or a new glass bowl... anyone up for a custom order??

I use a different grinder for my glass bowl. The grind is not as fine so I dont use the metal screen with my glass bowl. There is some material that gets through but not as big of an issue with a coarser grind. Just my :2c:

It's like, functionally I like the metal bowl -- it's a little bigger, easier to stir the material, very little gets into the pipe with the double-weave screen. But aesthetially, I much prefer the glass bowl. It's quieter than metal-on-metal (sound matters to me), it looks nicer, and I can put it directly in the fancy pieces because it's glass on glass. I use a glass dropdown or a similar piece to separate the expandable hot metal bowl from the expensive and not-expandable glass of the pipe. I'd rather have a glass bowl that has more capacity and a better screen -- either smaller holes in the glass bottom OR a design like the metal bowl where a titanium screen can be wedged tightly. And hey, what about some solid-color glass bowls made like this?
