Well @bossman and @Shit Snacks you guys have got me going now.
I have Splinter v1+ on as Sinuous P80 on which I did manage to load myevic some time ago, and have used power (watt) mode almost exclusively, with once or twice trying cruise but between wife and I, it was confusing with different click patterns, etc, so we have kinda learned to use at about 33-37 watts (depending on strain, I guess) and simply let go of the button before combustion. While this has been good rehearsal for anticipated M3 arrival (soon!), I'm now really interested in whatever-the-heck you guys are on to in last couple of posts, but it does sound like I'd need considerable tutorial to get there. By 'there' I mean a use that's easy to enable (turn on/off) and offers the degree of regulation you guys are talking about, without need for fussing after dialing in.
This is an intimidating area for me; should I just keep on as I've been, with wattage, or is there a step by step somewhere? I do believe I could accomplish install of say, Artic Fox or something.
Bought our first home computer in 1991. I am sooo tired of new learning curves...
Try TC next. Cruise or "autofi" as it's called in the myevic settings on my mod is just a feature to keep the heater on without holding the button down and isn't necessary. You have that feature available already in myevic so you needn't install Arctic Fox.

I don't have a V1+ on a P80 to suggest exact settings. I'd guess TCR 120 to 140, resistance .23 to .24, and 32 to 34W aiming for a usable range from 360 to 400° or so.

The TCR value hasn't been as critical to me. If you start with settings in that range and aren't getting dense vapor at 360 to 380° just nudge the resistance up over its cold reading. Don't just let it check on a warm Splinter and accept the suggested new resistance though as that'll leave you with too high a starting number and more risk of combustion.

The advantage of arctic fox is managing these settings from a tabbed window on a computer but it's easy to adjust settings right on the mod. I think I have my rxg3d set to edit settings on either two or four clicks of the fire button and that let's me step through the settings and displayed on the main screen and bump them up or down without going into the menus by pressing up and fire together.

I don't use any of my Splinters in "log mode" where you do very low wattage like 11 or 12W and then leave it for a few minutes to preheat. I only use mine to be lazy about holding the button down and I have it set to timeout at 25 seconds.

Do you know your way around the P80 enough to edit the TC settings right on the mod? That's the only learning curve for this config challenge and it's not too scary.

I will give it a go, though it may have to wait til some visitors head home in a couple of days...

I still don't feel good about messing with cold resistance, feels like it should be locked at the cold value, while TCR is tweaked instead? Also the V1+ should theoretically technically be same as V2 btw, just a different wood shell...

My settings are not quite perfect, may be a little hot, I do like starting at 300F but I seem to be capable of finishing at 350 sometimes... Hot spot is hard to control, but it is typically the result of a hard fast draw despite temp regulation. This may actually work well though, I am getting good extraction better than I was with my V2 on the RX DNA250 (how to make sense because I was using the older Z profile for it, which unsurprisingly is working really well with my actual custom Z now) so all good...

I also did notice that ArcticFox seems to jump out of autofire if you try to use it when the battery is lower unfortunately... Mine is set to 33sec right now and I am about to grab more fresh batteries on sale at IMR, maybe a charger.

For the second time, the glass mouthpiece receptacle inside my splinter has broken. The first time I was able to get the Splinter replaced by PIU because it was new but now it's about a year old. I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is.. The stem is a pretty good cantilever and stresses the rough cut receptacle. The mouth piece receptacle is obviously some other piece of glass lab ware that has the bottom cut off. The problem is that the cut is left rough and full of stress risers. It should have been ground smooth and probably flame polished. Fatigue cracks always start at stress risers, so removing such defects increases the fatigue strength significantly. When it worked, the Splinter was awesome. Not sure I want to toss any more money away on these.

sorry to hear about your troubles, @gooroo. Do you have any pictures of that glass and the unpolished cuts? One thing I like about RBT design is that they’re far more rebuildable than most vapes, even if the components are not available directly from RBT. since glass issues have come up a few times, maybe we can all figure out what sort of lab ware is being repurposed here.

Too bad. I did have a cracked glass joint on my first V1 but have purchased more than a half dozen Splinters since having that one replaced during the warranty period and they're all still working great. I mostly only use them with long XL8R stems so plenty of potential for the cantilever you're blaming but it hasn't damaged either of my Chinese Zs, V2s, or custom Zs. Even the replacement V1 continues to do its thing.

I don't know enough about glass to counter your stress risers angle. Ryan did explain that the first V1 run had some issues they resolved subsequently. If I were you I'd get that deal for two V2s for $99 or maybe the ZV2 and V2 combo deal for $125. Both combos include an XL8R stem too. I love my V2s for the quick heat up and the ZV2 is just insane.

These are not my pictures but this what it looks like. Actually, these pictures show a cut that looks a little cleaner than mine. Mine was a bit rougher looking. I've had to reglue the joint back to the wood a few months ago so I cant take pictures at the moment. But these pictures from a an earlier comment in this thread will give you an idea of what I mean.

Dude, you have been really, really tempting me to get a ZV2. But then I would have to get another mod, and I really don't want another mod, even tho that Drone has been calling my name... Oy...

I found the deals of which you speak? Damn it is tempting...

I've always been in the Splinter-is-good-enough-I-don't-need-a-Z camp, but I just got a Zv2 on a whim a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure I'll go back to the V1. The Z takes everything I love about the Splinter and dials it up to 11.

@cybrguy you see the rxg3d from a US seller for $31.50 deal from a few days ago? Were I to "invest" in a backup ZV2 I'd put it on one of those in the short term
No, the DNA chip has spoiled me. It's DNA or nothin from what I've seen so far. My RX 2/3 that I have on my Splinter doesn't really satisfy, tho it does wattage just fine.

I have a Splinter also, but the Custom Z I have is my favorite of the family. @bossman has been teasing me into a ZV2 and I may be forced into one eventually. Can't beat this pricing now tho cheap (and broke) as I am.

The only one I'm aware of is just for ten percent off custom Zs. The deals I was talking to @cybrguy about were for two Splinters and an XL8R. The two V2s is $110 shipped. The V2 and ZV2 combo is $135 shipped.

In other news that rxg3d arrived from the deal I posted last week. Put myevic and the V1 on it and TCR is great from the first bowl with the settings shown and no resistance adjustment, preheat, or PID.

I sat M1 to TCR 125, used the edit double click to set watts on the main screen to 34W, and just while looking around I did change Expert >> Max to 45W down from 200 though I'm not sure it plays a roll given the previous setting I described.

In Vaping >> Modes I only have TC and PW enabled. In Interface >> Clicks I have two clicks set to Modes and three clicks set to Edit. Without profiles you can just double click to switch from wattage to TC. The only other thing I set Vaping >> AutiFi to on and ATime to 25 seconds since I only use the delightfully short long press for big XL8R hits and never low wattage log mode.

The avb shot is after one warm up hit at 30W, one wattage hit at 32W, and one big dense TC hit at 370°.

I'm liking the brown LG HG2 cells with the rxg3d.

Edit: the code blackfriday27 isn't valid so maybe it was for Friday only?

Dam My glass just broke on my v1, is there a possibility of repairing it or is it trash?
Bummer. Yea, no repairs for Splinters, just replacements during the warranty period. Some handy folks here have tried to reattach glass that's come loose from the wooden sleeve but I don't recall any diy glass joint replacements. I do recommend the V2 and ZV2, especially if we find a working code.

The two codes posted on IG are

blackfriday27
blackfridaycustoms

Someone should tell us that code. I ditched Instagram or I'd check for myself.

it just worked for me. it brings a splinter Z V2 from 99 down to 72.27.
Well shit, thanks again for the perseverance. Maybe it was case sensitive or doesn't work on the V2/ZV2 combo... Can't hurt to have backups for my backups at that price right? I love all my Splinters and those are the two that do the most work.

Lemme go fuck with that code some more and I'll report back...

Update: okay yeah, the code works but the paired Splinters are excluded even though they aren't listed in the exclusions of the Ig post. So even with the discount the combo items are the better deal since they include an XL8R.

I should probably hold off in that case but for $82 shipped a backup ZV2 might be irresistible. ZV1s are all gone it looks like.

the code blackfriday27 only works on the singles. the double pack price is already there and you get a free long xl8r stem too. so a backup for the backups backup. haha. if i didnt already have 4 Z V2s already i would scoop one more. this is good for some that can swing half the money at least you can get a Z at a steal.

With a Splinter and a Custom Z I really don't need another splinter family vape right now, but I'm sure I will in the future and these prices are just too good to pass up. I expect to cave some time today... I guess a ZV2 is needed in my collection

Added: I have a ZV2 and the XL8R glass kit in my cart and the blackfriday27 code works for both, bringing the price to $104 and change delivered. How can I possibly turn that down...

We really need a support group. I have two custom Zs and a ZV2 and ZV1. And two V2s. And that fucking V1 I just configured on a cheap rxg3d yesterday which still outshines all my session vapes and vapcaps for flavor, vapor quality, and hit size.

It has me spoiled on the value too: I sold my Fury 2 with the intention of picking up a Fury Edge this weekend when it went on sale for the first time. Now when I see the sale price I think "I could get a ZV2 and a V2 and an XL8R for less than this!"

I have a buddy I am trying REALLY hard to get in to vaping who, like me, is a 50 years of smoking guy. He keeps handing me a joint when I go over to his place even tho I say every time I don't smoke any more. Maybe if I "accidentally" leave him a Splinter on a mod he will get into it. That may be what I do with the ZV2 after I get it. It's not the price or anything holding him back, it's just his habits. I gave him a VC M to use but it is too much effort for him. Maybe this would be less so...

Sigh... Order Placed.

You don't have a V1 or V2 to get your friend on the good foot? For a noob I think the quick first hit of a Splinter would be easier to appreciate than the flavor and power of a warmed up Z.

Both wattage and TC are excellent with my ZV2 on this Finder. I keep wondering if it's the king of the Zs but they're all so baller it might just be whichever one has the freshest batteries.
