Vapman

Wow that is a real bummer, just picked up my vapman and station a month or so back. Would like to get a second set up, vapman and station, but was gonna wait for awhile.

I had similar intentions. I just got a couple basics off of Vapor Institute, the only two they had in stock. I figured with a Station the mica finish becomes less of a concern. Hopefully someone will pick up the baton so to speak but if not I can ”phytoinhale” for quite a bit with a Station and three Basics...

Very sad to hear. I can honestly say the vapman has changed my life. I spent a long time trying to kick a combusting habit, herb and tobacco combined. The vapman made it a joy to vape and eliminate tobacco from the equation.

Much love and respect to its creator René and good luck to whatever you do next. Let's hope someone can carry on the vapman spirit.

Or rather quotes René as saying:

Vapman has provided me with a good income and much joy over all these years. At this point, I’d like to say a big thank you to all my valued and loyal customers! Since I am not timeless, unlike vapman, it is time to find a successor to the business.
I am ready for a change and know that someone out there will want to take this successful business with growing potential and make it their own.

While I too, of course, share the disappointment an concern for the future, I also see this a very positive for René. Clearly long considered and well thought out. As is VM itself. He best knows? VM is his 'baby', he's not going to abandon it or us. He's going to search for 'just the right guy' to take the helm.

He should be free to follow his dreams, same and you and I want to. Personally I kinda like the portable saw mill idea.......

So the man gets my thanks for what he has done, and full support for the future. He deserves no less.

Finding the right next runner to hand the torch to could prove daunting or might follow naturally from the way he has conducted his business these last few years. The news might cause the new owner to present himself (or herself, of course). I have faith in the future for all concerned and gratitude for the past blessings. And I'm, of course, glad I have a VM backup. I've got one out on long term loan I need to run down if possible. I know of at least two guys who bought one based on using it, and have to find out who they passed it on to (with my permission, of course).

Regards and best wishes to all, especially our friend René. The world needs more like him.

I hope that you're right, @OF

You never know. If I keep spouting off sooner or later I'm sure to be right.......maybe this is the time?

As I said, somethings in life you need to take on faith. Good man, good product, solid business, good will come of it in many ways I bet.

It would, IMO, be great fun if 'the right guy' took over from René and added his contributions and insights to the project. We've discussed this in the past. René has put his stamp on VM, one could easily argue at art form at this point? But how about a ceramic one? Entirely different thing, yet related. It could be cheaply molded, machined 'green' as necessary and fired to impressive performance for much less than the lowest cost VM today. The ceramics guys could go nuts on the green versions with glazes and printing then glaze it over and make it immortal and unchanged for a LOT of use. The pan, and midsection now in use could be used, substituting small screws and nuts for the current screws.

Or maybe changing the existing wood one a small bit? Like say a raised rib at the bottom of the groove in the rim? Might be a fun change to the 'feel' of holding it as well as a help to those of us who tend to be casual in such areas as our minds wonder, contemplating the problems of a troubled world and all.

"In René we trust"

Regards to all.

Unless he is already closing the sale of his business and moving I find strange he stopped every sales while searching for a successor...hope @vapman is feeling fine
René is very busy at the moment, his workshop is moving and the new projects need all his attention. It therefore seems to be a better solution to stop selling directly to customers for the time being.

There is the possibility to find Vapman products in various Vaposhops. I suspect that the well-known Vaposhops could replenish their stock with larger orders if they contact René via email.

But now René needs all his energy for the necessary work ahead. I fully understand that.

Thank you guys for the comments, I appreciate it very much!

As Gourmet mentioned, I am very busy moving my workshop. I have to be out by the end of the month and there are zillions of things on shelves and tables, let alone the machinery and drawer cabinets. I can hardly wait to have it done behind me.

I will get back as soon I have more time again.

Kind regards to all,

René

It was a couple of years later when I met Forrest Landry from Magic Flight at the exhibition in Barcelona, Spain, that he could tell me the name of the dark wood.
Forrest Landry of Magic Flight is a very smart and interesting guy and we share the love for wood and natural things. I would love to work with Forrest.

Wouldn't that be just too cool? MF buys VM, mass produces them with the same love and attention to detail as they do the LB and market and service the product(s) through their already established network of Dealers?

A win-win-win. Both VM and MF win, and we customers score big time....... Let us all think pure thoughts?

Just ordered a Vapman Classic yesterday and today ordered a Station , i already have the Digit, Mighty, Plenty, de Verdamper and a Vapcap M but was looking for a vaporizer for hash.

Congratulations. Good call, I suspect you may have got one of the last of both. If you don't mind telling folks where you found them, I bet others will want to know? Before they're all gone........

As to the VM for hash, it does work and work well with proper technique. However you really need to keep after routine cleaning/maintenance. Guys have killed theirs, sometime the mid section, sometimes damaging the surface of the pan trying to do a major clean up, sometimes just gluing everything together so the 3 tubes holding the pan get damaged trying to open it.

Now that VM has suspended operations, getting it repaired would be a huge undertaking I fear. Enjoy it, but take care of it.

Regards to all.

For those in the US, @VGOODIEZ stocks them and as of right now has at least one station left in stock. I am soooo glad I snagged a Yew.

The war against Mom&Pop shops is global . René has given all of us countless hours of pleasure and in some cases relief. Vapman is a work of genius in it's simplicity and powers of extraction. I only know him from the videos in his workshop and his words on this forum and yet I feel like I'm losing a friend. The best of everything to you René , don't stay away too long. =)

Was sitting on the fence for quite some time. Good thing I never stopped reading this thread!

Third day now with my new black mouthpiece/black egg Walnut Basic.
I love this vape. It takes such a tiny amount of material: the shape of the oven does not allow for much tamping so it really fits just a pinch (I would say about half the amount I fit, tamped, on half a Cap of my Omnivap!). The ritual of loading, cooking, and the special high (stone!) it delivers are truly unique!

All the best to René @vapman in his new adventures. Just hope Vaposhop, verdampf and friends have enough stock to keep the vapman available a bit longer...

Someone (skilled) in EU should just go to switzerland help the guy with the change and learn the vapman craft (magic) along the way!

Just put in for a basic pear vapman from vgoodiez, shipping to Canada.

I heard of the vapman in something like 2012 and went with the launch box instead, and basically forgot about it.

Then came the butane vape resurgence sometime after I purchased my Underdog, and now that I'm fully into a VAS phase, I can't help but dig out of my savings to own a piece of vaping history before I lose the chance!

Also really looking forward to the vapor flavor/quality I've been hearing about, developing a new technique and ritual, and building up some charateristic charring :)

Hey guys, it has been a while since my last post. Thanks for all the good wishes and encouraging words!
The main reason I stopped the sales is simply because I needed a long awaited break. Running a business on your own can get very tireing and endless. I was always trying to get bigger in order to be in the position to employ someone but somehow it didn't happen. A lot of factors made it hard to grow bigger and I must confess that on the marketing side I did a lot of things wrong. If I could go back to the beginning with all the knowledge I have now I would have done a lot of things with a different approach. Then again, who wouldn't say: I wish I knew what I know now when I was younger and stronger?
I wouldn't change vapman itself, I still think it was one of my better moments in my life when creating it. Anyway, life goes on and I'm having a break from it all. The last 15 years were quite intense and very difficult at times. One of the main problem was the Swiss Franc which became 80% stronger against the Euro during this time. I had to lower the prices (mainly for shops) several times, leaving me less and less profit.
For now I let this thing rest for a while, lets hope something good will come along. Letting things go is sometimes the best way to achieve a new goal.

I will stay in touch, it was my pleasure to be part of this wonderful vapman thread so far!

All the best,

vapman
