Not at all, underdog! It didn’t come across that way, no worries! Makes perfect sense, though, and I should have thought about it is all. Sometimes, I’m just hard on myself. :)

Awesome glad to hear it didn't come off that way. I feel ya on being hard on yourself I think that's something that a lot of us struggle with.

Kind of bummed my original PD got knocked off the table a few times and received some “character marks”... blah! Wish there was an easy way to fix/repair wood dents... Any experts in this???

So, tell me, Ive seen you in threads similar to mine; and your posts a few back here scratch the very itch I'm having right now: PD still the shit? How would you compare re: vapes in my sig? Looking to swoop a (obv) used PD...

You have some nice vapes in your collection, however the PD will offer a unique experience to most of these. It’s not very “on-demand,” so to speak like the Milaana and Splinter, in that it takes about 20 mins or so to reach optimal temperature, but more of a session vape. Amazing flavor, nice big clouds, and just an overall pleasure to hold. You can really feel the quality in the build. I used to leave mine plugged in 24/7 and didn’t notice a difference in my electric bill, which was pretty awesome!

Yeah, I have the SSV and Epic EV-2 both which need a bit of a warmup as well, much difference there?

I do like collecting the "classics" (i kick myself for not grabbing a $100 volcano og last month) but also if they're far out classed at this point, I don't want them just for kitsch factor... especially with a family, the ones that take ages to reach temp get used much less (ive learned my lesson with always on: daddy...why do we have a heat lamp in the garage?... SHIT!), but someday dammit I'll have an open house!

Yikes, I hear ya about the family thing... much worse when your wife doesn’t approve of all your hobbies, mostly due to the obscene spending on such things! But a man can never have too many vapes, like fishing poles and golf clubs, right???

One thing I forgot to mention was you can pack the TINIEST amount of plant material into the stem and it lasts and lasts and lasts, it seems. Usually about 0.025g is sufficient for a 5-10 minute session, offering some thick clouds. Be careful, or you could easily get yourself into a coughing fit (although, I like this personally!) Can’t speak for the SSV or Epic EV-2 as I’ve never used either, but I can tell you that is it log style and doesn’t use a whip like the SSV.

I hope Tom and his wife are doing well. I enjoyed their presence and Tom had some great stories.

Amen. I too miss them both, and hope they are happy where they are. I recall the 'special rocks' that came with early units, personally selected from the local beach as I recall. Mine is stashed away.

We can, as a group, come up with our share of rude/abusive folks that tend to drive such 'good guy' makers off. Not the first time for sure. Let us enjoy them all the more while they are with us?

couldn’t post photos but I added them all to this tumbler. PD still fires up and works fine but as you can see it’s got some damage

First off, welcome to FC.

Unfortunately I can't make that link work......all it does is ask me to sign in.......

Here's a thread on the subject that might help?

Thanks for the effort, would like to see a well used unit.

Thanks for giving me a hand with that thread. Very helpful. Now you can see the good the bad and the ugly. I had to use the car charger cord and rig it with a new transformer cause the original crapped out. Had a guy on Etsy blow the glass straw for me.

Hello friends!

Anyone still use their PD? I've had a clone for almost a decade now, had to get the inside reworked but still a great vape!
My vape tubes are falling apart though. Does anyone know where I can get more vape tubes for these vapes? Alternately, does anyone know where I can get the clips that hold the screens in? I don't know what that piece is called and haven't been able to find it on google, it would be a big help to get some of those clips.

Thanks for any help!

We're going to be making a little production run of the original small size (1/4" OD) PD/Zap style stems here in a couple months.. I don't know of anyone currently making them but I haven't really asked around lately.

The little clip that holds the screen in is called a 'snap ring' or a 'circlip' or a 'retaining ring' (all for internal bores).

When we do our stem run we'll make the tooling to press 1/4" bucket screens for them so ours won't require the rings.

I have a cherry PD which I haven't used in years. It got a little loose and I bought some retaining rings and the little plier-like tool you need to work with them and that worked pretty well. I think it's still in pretty good working order. Maybe I'll fire it up.

Hello first time poster. I happened to find my old Purple Days Pandora Kit vaporizer and the wiring/jacks have been messed up big time. I'm trying to find replacement parts but haven't seemed to find anything on the type of wiring used. Any information would be amazing.

UPDATE: After some research I came upon brass electrical wiring. Tom was fairly into brass in the early models and kept that into the late model Pandora kits as well

I just finished patching up my decade old Pandora Kit PD. Still uses a Ohmite 25J20RE resistor heating element through its finned heatsink, but I found a pretty neat setup for the wiring that put away my fears of it shorting out (can't find the link but hit the search if you need it)

Cleaning up old wood and creating cork bottom. Not a long term idea, but for ease in case of any mishaps early on. Once I get it running for long term I'll think about going hardwood.

I saw a good diagram on here (hit me up if you know it and I'll happily link) explaining a way to sheathe the wire coming from the bottom of the resistor by using small glass craft beads held in by a small spot of solder. In the previous setup I could clearly see where the wires had crossed and began to slowly break the unit. So clearly this was the move. Hooked up 20g tinned copper wire to the negative (the negative terminal on the jack is so flippin' small) and a high temp silicone sheathed stranded for the positive.

The completed heater assembly. The beads protect the negative wire from where the jacketed wire may have touched otherwise. From here just a simple drop down...

...and success!

Now just a simple screw wire a small amount of wiring wrapping around to act as an anchor and heat dissipation, and solder to the two terminals (not the best job but wont be dropping bits off anytime soon)

And with that the unit is complete and holding temp comfortably. Unfortunately at the time of writing this I don't have any tubes to use for it but will be testing it with a trial run as soon as they arrive.

A big hecking thanks to this wonderful community. Honestly could not have done this without your input and passion for these little guys. And even bigger thanks to Underdog (Hi Dave!) for all the knowledge and help they've contributed; not only to me but just keeping these things going. If you have any questions about the build feel free to message! :)

"Sadly, we have decided to leave FC and never return.

At the same time we have had a chance to re-evaluate our
position as a vaporizer manufacturer.
Many factors went into the decision.
It is in the best interest, of our family, to pursue other avenues." - Late December 2011

10 years ago ... a long time ... long enough for the haters to let it go , we will see ...

We just got back from camping near Port Orford , birthplace of the PD .
Nostalgia makes me write at this time, I guess .

No we will never go back into the Purple-Days business .
Wanted to come back and say high , to all the friends we made in those four years .
Most have probably moved on but ... hey anyway .

So, Pammy and I are both still alive .
We left El Mirage , AZ in 2016 .
We live in a rural Washington town .
40 miles to a McDonalds , rural ...

Pammy struggles with chronic health issues , but gets by somehow .
Her health was a big concern back in 2011, still is.

I saw emergency tracheostomy surgery last year, followed by total laryngectomy .
Stage 4 Cancer ,,,
Split me ear to ear and removed voice box , 24 lymph nodes , part of the thyroid .
I breathe thru a tube stuck in a hole in my neck , no voice at all .

So maybe that's another reason to come here and say say hi . No vocal chords required .
Anyway hello to all our friends. Best regards , always .

Tom: So glad to hear you are still out & about! We miss you here at FC. Did you ever pick up the bass guitar again? You made a lot of people happy: you deserve credit for helping advance the dry vapor community. I'm sorry to hear of failing health: we all get to experience that. No one gets out of here alive.
