Does puffitup do worldwide shipping? I know Randy is a big fan of the VOS and carries them and all parts, but not sure if he ships to Europe.

stinac,
Greetings all! I'll start by saying I am a complete n00b when it comes to vaporizers. I had only used one in the past once, and I couldn't say which it was since I didn't see it at the head shop I was at, and have dreamed of owning a Volcano/similar. But a non-portable device isn't an option for me right now, so I will investigate that market and cross that bridge when I come to it. However, I did come across and purchase a Vape-Or-Smoke while at the head shop. I was intrigued by the dual use of pipe/vaporizer, and that it used a butane "torch lighter," (as we call 'em ) as I had found torch lighters excellent for past sessions, but difficult to use since I don't think you're really suppose to have them pointing down while lit (Idk if that's really a hazard, but I don't feel right doing it for some reason). I'd say my experience with the VOS so far reads a lot like this thread: Generally positive, but some disappointments, and a few profane outbursts when it came to figuring out vaporization lol! It's easy to use, and accomplishes the task I bought it for, way to go team :)! I noticed on the inside cover page it listed the warnings, yadda-yadda, a lot of common sense any adult (required to own, am I right ;)) should have. However, it was an unpleasant surprise how quickly it got hot, and not just limited to the metal bowl. I thought the design and plastic would have insulated the heat better, but after 3 hits max you wouldn't want your fingers on that top 1/3. If I wanted to be a smart-ass I'd suggest "Device may become hot with excessive use" be changed to "Device becomes excessively hot with use," but my most accurate edit would be "Device becomes hot with progressive usage." Also, I realize that the lighter is quite the custom job for the design, but mine doesn't seem that great of quality. I've owned it for about 3 days now, and while using it and climbing the vape curve I've had to refill it about once a day. I've only packed 3-5 bowls in it per day, and once I figure how to get it vaporizing consistently I'm hoping the fuel rate drops, because it seems a bit on the thirsty side. I have been using Ronson butane btw. The flame adjustment for vaporization is difficult to master as well. I read how a lower flame is needed, but I've noticed the lower the flame the more mine has a tendency to hug that right inner wall. I've listed my usage so far, and there has been a little heat blemish there already since like day 2. I know the flame and heat is pulled slightly right from lighter to bowl, so maybe there should be a little more space. Or maybe the lighter should sit at that little angle it's off. There also seems to fine tuning necessary as the fuel level changes. Overall, I think I'm gonna have a blast with this piece. I think I may have a sweet spot figured out to vape, and reading the tip to add the 2nd circle screen between the bowl and long screen helped too. Looking forward to HP's breakthru, and the new stuff like ceramic bowls and e-cig oils. I've had a BluCig since March, and I'm so satisfied with it I'm not anticipating VOS will take over for it, but it looks exciting nonetheless. Thank you to ALL posters ITT, this continuing debate has helped me learn more about my new gadget, and better evaluate my decision. So far, I can't complain too much :D

OK guys, really sorry about the extra day-long wait, but I haven't been home... long story. Anyway, about that breakthrough...

Besides using Colibri if you're strictly into vaping, there are a couple techniques to vaping perfectly every time.

Without long screen (requires 2-3 small screens)

Step 1: Put one of your circular screens in the bottom of the bowl.

Step 2: Load your tobacco/product/whatever to just below the holes on the bowl.

Step 3: Put your other circular screen on top of whatever you're vaping, and pack it down a bit; not much, I'd say a medium to medium-light pack.

Step 3a: Adjust the flame on your lighter to a fairly low setting (disregard if you are following step 4).

Step 4 (optional): Put your 3rd circular screen on top of the circular screen already on top of your stuff. (Note: this stacked screen configuration will allow you to vape at pretty much any flame height.)

Step 5: Vape PERFECTLY. NOTE (THIS IS A BIG NOTE, PLEASE READ IT): Proper, complete vaping will not taste like evergreen trees. It will taste like you're eating vegetables. I have found that if you keep up with the vegetable flavor until it starts to smell/taste like popcorn, you will never combust.

I've tried this method with 3-month-old American Spirit tobacco... if I can vape that, you can vape whatever the hell you want.

With the long screen (requires 1 circular screen)

Step 1: Put your circular screen in the bottom of your bowl.

Step 2: Wrap your long screen around a fairly thick cylindrical object and insert it into your bowl. Ideally, the edges of the screen will be close to touching, but will not actually touch.

Step 3: Pack your product medium to medium-firm, again below the holes of the bowl.

Step 4: Adjust the flame to a lower setting, and hit while inhaling at a normal breathing pace or slower.

This method is somewhat less reliable, but far more reliable than not using any screens. Doubling-up your long screens may produce better results. There are many factors to getting a perfect vape without any screens, and while those factors are still fairly relevant with the long screen, or a single circular screen on top, they basically don't matter with the stacked screens.

What are those factors? How fast you breathe, how high the flame is, and how high and well-packed your bowl is.

Unrelated;

In my spare time, I've been working on getting a blog/forum setup for the modifying of vaporizers and other pieces. My first post or two will be about improving your VoS, and also how to vape with it every time you use it (essentially a copy/paste of this post, lol). Expect a bit more design and a working forum shortly, but also make sure to check back from time to time for a bunch of mods to get your piece working better. Do know that any modifications you make are most likely not covered by a manufacturer warranty, and since I can't afford to replace your shit, you should only perform the mods if you're willing to accept full financial responsibility.

If i want to set my lighter to minimal flame, i need adjusting it every time i use it, because as butane level drops, flame drops so it cant ignite. I cant get consistent flame.

HindenPeter, your technique 1 is cool, but you cant stir that way?
Im using technique 2. from beginning, but cant get lighter to work on minimum flame all the time as butane level drops, i have to turn it up and burn my bud from time to time

stinac, the flame dropping with the butane level is likely caused by using some crappy butane, such as Ronson. I can't remember having this problem with quality butane such as Colibri or Vector, so if you haven't already, give one of those a try (I recommend Colibri for vaping).

Also, as for not being able to stir, I find that you don't ever need to stir with the first method. Vaped several bowls to the point of popcorn without stirring, pulled the screens out, dumped out my product, and was happy to see that there was no charring, and the whole bowl was incredibly dry the whole way through, as you would expect a vaped bowl to be. The results were consistent with every bowl I vaped.

Hey guys, I hope I can offer any help as I have been using the vape - or - smoke since its debut. First and foremost, when it comes to butane its vector all the way. The tip extenders that come with a can of vector are a huge advantage when filling. Use the tip that looks like a reverse flathead with a small pinhole in the middle and the unit will fill FAST. Tip two, because of the design in which vaping is only achieved buy hot air below the chamber with direct contact it takes quite a while to find your sweetspot...a little to much you get combustion and a liitle to low and you get an oxygen headache from pulling to get nada! This process also results in lots a buildup and resin throughout the chamber so the piece needs constant cleaning. I soak the chamber, screen, and catcher in grungoff for a couple hours and use pipe cleaners to get all the goobers out. 91% ISO works just as well imo, grungoff can be pricey. Now, I have seen the problem with the bowl popping up when playing with the clicker/mouthpiece and its all because of the pawl. That piece is an absolute pain in the #ss! But finding its proper position comes with practice. For me it has become a usefull tool on the road and for a quick hit rather than a vape but when I am home in the vapecave and I want to play I lower the flame almost all the way and take long low and slow pulls similar to the Iolite and I get a nice milky vapor. Purps taste sick in the V-O-S! If your dropping the load when the bowl pops up thats wacked. Maybe your grinding too finely or your product maybe too dry. With this vape a little sticky icky wont hurt!

Im always available for questions, enjoy.

Thanks for the tips, mvapes, but there's one thing I do differently, and that is that I use Colibri when I want to just vape. My reasoning behind it is that you can get a smaller flame much easier with colibri than with vector. In a comparison I did, I measured the flame height with my lighter using colibri first and vector second. With the lighter set all the way up, Colibri's flame measured about 15mm and Vector measured about 20mm. Speaking to my friends, all of them have a similar experience when using colibri vs vector.

No problem Hind! I never tried the colibri...when I bought the unit the rep was actually at the store and they were like the vector mafia. Made it sound like if I didn't use Vector than I couldn't hang with cool guys! lol, I am going to take your advice and try the colibri. I think your right too...now that I think about the vector does burn HOT, I notice the difference in the Iolite. When I fill the IO with vector it gets hot as hell and usually toasts the bowl rather quick. Thanks for the heads up.

Got my VoS from the puffitup contest on saturday and first of all let me give a shout out to Randy and puffitup.com for the excellent service and free prize. I noticed the lighter on the new VoS works even better than on the other unit i had for vaping makes a nice small even cone with plenty of gap between it and the bowl... I love these things replacing lighters and them going bad is the only thing i can see being an issue with this thing but if you know how to take care of a lighter it will last for quite some time.. On the go and convenience wise it is amazing for me right now especially for vaping while hiking or riding a bike is awesome!

Goodlife101,
Interesting claim, that the Colibri burns cooler and can get a smaller flame more easily than Vector loaded into the same lighter. Wish I had some Colibri to try it out, I'd love to tame the flame on the VOS a little.

Hi there,

I am using the V&S for e few weeks now and haven't posted about it.
Felt guilty about it so here is my opinion about this vape.

First about using the V&S with Herbs, I tried and was not happy at all to burn my herbs, but this has already been said in this topic and as we know this particular point is being remedied.

Meanwhile and therefore I only use it with Hash and this thing rocks !!!
To tell the truth I am not a big fan of hash, never have been, but I find myself enjoying vaping hash with this vape.
So for me this vape is perfect for hash, and may be perfect soon for herbs.

I also wanted to react to Ripple's post and other that had pb with it.

I too, could not have my V&S to work at first, and got super frustated at home trying to make it work. I actually stopped trying after 15 min and burning some herbs.

I guess I would have post something similar to you at that time BUT thx to a happy owner of the V&S I am now able to happily use the V&S.
The main pb I had was setting the flame, now that it has been done, my V&S works perfectly.

So to all people that have problems, keep trying and believing because this vape works (and may work even better with the new add ons) and is a killer for hash.

Congrats Raf...it takes some playing with but once you hit that sweet spot it will become a great piece for anyone. I got a question for Stinac...I see that you have a mendo mulcher, how do you like it. I use a sharpstone 3 piece but its to big for easy carry so I was looking into the MM. Is it really what its cut out to be?

I, too have the 3" Mendo Mulcher (4-pc and 2-pc) and it is by far the best grinder(s) that I've used. However it is NOT small by any means, so if you're looking for something smaller, you should consider a 2".

okay i had a breakthrough today... i was using my dads and my buddes VoS in comparison to mine and its my screen placement that is keeping mine vaping so well... I have round screen in the back where is should be the second i cut the edges off of 2 sides and rolled the long screen narrower so it sits on the 2nd circular cut screen leaving a good amount of seperation of my herbs from the bottom of the stainless steel chamber and my flame is way bigger than anyones and i have the least problems with combustion...

Goodlife, I'm confused...i always left my flame lower on my VOS and thats how I've reduced issues with combusting. If your flames are always larger than that would be creating more heat resulting in partial or even total combustion.:o

I use the round screen that comes directly from VOS and the long one...(looks like a tampon) gets rolled into the bowl horizontally screening off the heat vent. Regardless, we all suffer at times from slight combustion but the only issue I have with the VOS is that rez builds up quick and I am constantly cleaning it. And I didn't cut anything on the screens and they seem to fit right. Am I doing something wrong?

i meant i can turn my flame up much higher than my dads or my friends with the screen like this and still achieve only vapor... and no they shuold fit fine i just think the extra gap allows me to have a larger flame without worrying about combusting... the only time i combust is when i get greedy and just keep ripping after the bowl is long gone :p

Hey Guys,

I'm new to the forums, I've been lurking around for quite sometime though. FC is the reason I purchased my 1st vape over a year and a half ago (MFLB). Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase but there are a couple things that really bother me about the LB.
#1 the battery life, I hate having to charge my batteries several times a day and If I leave for an entire day I have to take my charger with me along with all my batteries as well.
#2 The reason why I am on this thread is because, the thing is a pain in the butt to clean! I've actually accidentally damaged the screen on the LB 3 times (Thank god for their amazing warranty!) including last night.... So, I figured before I get yet another replacement LB I would do a lil research and see if there were anything new out on the market I would try instead. After doing some research on the VOS and reading through this entire thread at FC I'm still on the fence about it, So I figured I would ask the experts!

Currently I am torn between the VOS, LB and N02 So I'm hoping someone who has experience with these can chime in for me... My questions are:

1) How long does a FULL lighter last on the VOS? Compared to lets say the battery life of the LB (on avg one battery will last me a bowl on the LB).

2) How Many refills will a avg can of premium Butane last on the VOS (I understand there's alot of factors to play in this, just looking for a range)

3) Specifically with combustion I know on the LB it can be easy sometimes to combust the materials BUT once you get the hang of it I almost never combust anymore. I've noticed some people stating that the VOS is easy to combust and I'm wondering honestly If its the same kind of thing as with the LB more of a learning curve type of thing because I remember ppl would complain about the LB as well lol.

4) How much material can you pack into the VOS compared to the LB or N02 ?

5) Whats the Efficiency of vaping the materials compared to the LB? Alot of shaking needed also ?

6) How un-healthy is butane exactly ? I don't know much about breathing in the fumes but it would seem to me that using a butane vape like the VOS or iolite would be unhealthy? What are there health concerns here? Me like most people have switched to vaping because of the added health benefits...

I'm sorry to just throw all these questions at you guys but I'm looking into making a serious buying decision here in the next few days. I appreciate all your help! and am looking forward to the responses...

Hey gh0st026, several of your questions have already been answered in this thread, but I'll repost, just for you. :)

1: I find that my VoS' lighter, when completely full of Colibri, will last anywhere from 4-10 bowls (usually around 6 or 7) depending on how ferocious I am, and whether I'm smoking or vaping. Smoking seems to use a bit more fuel, though that's probably just because I like the flame higher when I smoke.

2: A large can of Colibri, and I find that this will last for like 40+ refills. To be quite honest, I haven't counted, but I feel my estimate of 40 may be a bit on the low side. Perhaps someone else can answer this better?

3: From my experience, vaping with either is like pie. Check out http://piecemods.com for a tutorial we have on vaping perfectly every time with your VoS. Currently it's the only article, so it's hard to miss. :p

4: A completely full bowl in the VoS is about .5 grams, but for vaping you shouldn't fill past the holes in the bowl, so about .15 - .2 grams.

5: If you use the first method outlined on piecemods (also on page 5 of this thread), you don't ever need to stir/shake. If you use the second, a small amount of stirring is necessary, but by no means is it a lot.

6: Pure butane fully combusted yields only CO2, H2O, and heat. As such, it's only as bad for you as inhaling a small amount of CO2 and hot air. I've been using my VoS for like 8 months, and have had no health concerns.

Hope you enjoy whatever you decide to use.

Thanks for the informative reply peter!

Does the VOS come with a warranty? I couldn't find any mention of one on the manufactures website.

The vape itself does not, but the lighter has a 6 month warranty from the date of purchase. To be honest, nothing else on it is likely to break. The damn thing is indestructable.

I have been vaping with MJ lately, I have also added the extra small round screen between the holes in the bowl and the long screen. I have no combustion and I get my herbs vaping to a nice toasty brown color. Can't wait to have some AVB to cook with.
