Off-topic a bit:

To dump the ABV yes that works, but I find usually that the screen clogging is already done and it's too late (say after a 6h break or a day resting in the stem that is)

Depends on the screen mesh size though, and bowl diameter... the ones from the 14mm MistVape system are notorious for clogging in my book for instance. The ones from RBT a bit less, but that being said 18mm systems are less prone to it overall, mine tend to self-clean over use.

Intermediate sizes from the Nomad and later Imp/Impcognito versions seem to sit in the middle, maintenance-wise.
you can stir the load prior to putting it away. When coming back won’t have claughing issuie

Is it possible to use the FW6 with water? I don’t think it needs it, but curious if others have found a way.

Something like this might work? Not sure if the stem is too narrow or not.

Thanks - I think that would be to wide. I have something similar already (see below).

Anytime I need a "problem-solver" piece, I see what Ratchett has to offer: https://delta3dstudios.com/
Agreed, I actually already have 2 of his universal adapters!

However, I think the FW6 would be tricky to adapt without a new stem of some sort - the way it retracts feels like it wouldn’t work well with an adapter (wouldn’t stay stable).
I dunno. Maybe I will play around this weekend. If just for the sake of :science:

I think this could be part of a solution: https://delta3dstudios.com/nearly-universal-vape-to-waterpipe-adapter-small/, but I hear what you're saying about stability.

Back in my Grasshopper days I got myself a Magic Flight Orbiter, which comes with 2 whips. I have found that the tubing from the whip fits perfectly on my FW4 mouthpiece when it is extended, allowing me to use the end with the wooden "handle" as a mouthpiece. The glass adapter on the "mouthpiece" end mates perfectly with glass and the nice length of hose allows you to place the vape securely on the table or hold it in your hand while feeding a water piece.

You can buy the Orbiter whips separately: http://sales.magic-flight.com/water-pipe-whip-1/ if you're OK with the standard Magic Flight premium price (to be clear: I think their stuff is worth what I paid. Just saying it might be more than others want to spend) or buy some tubing and adapters and make your own.

Get a solid silicone stopper. Size 2 or even a little smaller. Pretty sure I ordered these.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074...8&psc=1#aw-udpv3-customer-reviews_feature_div

Then just use a small drill bit or nail perhaps and poke a hole. Cut a bit of the fat end off so you can fit the mouthpiece through the hole. Fits in 14mm or 18 mm gong joint, I cant remember which one. But u get the idea. Simple and worked well on the FW5. No reason it wont work on the FW6.

Here are some additional observation I've had after using the FW6 for a week with some battery experimentation. All the batteries I got were from IMR and should be authentic. I swapped between 3 batteries a Samsung 30Q, Sony/Murata VTC5-A, and LG-HG2. By FAR the worst performing battery was the HG2, the HG2 could BARELY get the herb past yellow on setting 3 with 2 clicks and on setting 4 and 2 clicks i could lightly brown the top layer with plenty of green on the bottom. No matter the draw technique I could not get a substantial amount of visible vapor and towards the end of the bowl maybe a little less wispy vapor. I was damn near about to pass out from how long some of the inhales I was attempting to try to get the device going at all with the HG2. The warning buzz also felt EXTREMELY sensitive with the HG2, almost to the point of frustration. This confuses me because in my past experiences with FW vapes the HG2 was generally the best battery, but for the FW6 it is the worst performing battery in all aspects from my experience.

The VTC5-A and 30Q both had their upsides, but if I recommend a single battery its the 30Q. The 30Q is the best "overall" performance battery with the FW6 IMO, 30Q had a very consistent performance through 5-4 buzzes of power with a small (noticeable but not dramatic) drop in performance when you get closer to 3 buzz power. The draw sensor is also way more forgiving (the most forgiving out of the 3 batteries) with the 30Q. I do not know the science behind this, its just what I felt through use. Also, I had an old 30Q laying around (also from IMR but from a while ago) and the performance was very similar to the new 30Q so it seems consistent.

The VTC5-A had the best performance at the start but after it drops from 5 buzzes of power to 4 buzzes there is a noticeable dip in performance. After it gets to 3 buzzes the performance has a very, very noticeable dip. The draw sensor wont let you really rip but ease of use is still entry/mid level draw technique. It is nice to have a VTC5-A because of the initial performance but it's more of a luxury than for daily driver use IMO.

TL;DR: Buy a Samsung 30Q to use with the FW6, Do not use the LG-HG2 on the FW6, If you like having more options get a Sony/Murata VTC5-A but only as a side piece.

Big Edit: The Samsung 30Q is factory rated for 15A; However, there are communities that do battery research and its temperature at 15A was 71°C, a few degrees below the average for a cell operating at its CDR. At 20A the temperature rose to 83°C. This is at the upper limit of a battery operating at its CDR but is equal to the LG HG2. Note the Samsung rating does not reflect the pulse rating. There is no pulse length, time between pulses, or criteria used for setting such a rating being defined. The 20A rating is any type of discharge as long as the 75°C limit is not reached. I highly recommend reading these resources https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/t...t-results-a-great-15a-3000mah-battery.727190/ and https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threads/bench-retest-results-samsung-30q-3000mah-18650…a-great-15a-20-battery.846955/ also https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threads/conditionally-extending-the-samsung-30q’s-rating-to-20a.846947/and make the judgement for yourself.

BIG EDIT TL;DR : If you are uncomfortable with the 30Q, go with the VTC5-A but get multiple and keep them on you fully charged. I recommend only using a fully charged VTC5-A for 1 bowl because you will see a big performance drop off after about that much time of use on the VTC5-A. I would still recommend you stay away from the LG-HG2 with the FW6

@Soda thank you for the info as I'm new to On Demand and using batteries.

A question, since I'm new: Why do all the sites for batteries say
  • DO NOT USE WITH E-CIGARETTE, VAPORIZER, OR SIMILAR DEVICE

Purely speculation but I’m guessing it has to do with liability, in the mid/early 2010’s there were a lot of stories of people’s nicotine mods exploding because there are a ton of fake mods and fake batteries in the 18650 nicotine vape market. Box mods are more popular now but it use to be dominated by unregulated tubes that all you had was a magnetic/spring button and a prayer. I’m guessing battery sites put that up to avoid getting sued.

Thanks for the great info, but I have a question:

On the FW site Marc states that for FW vapes "The battery MUST be an 18650 cell rated for at least 20 Amps of continuous discharge current" but I looked at the Samsung 30Q on Lion Wholesale and they list it as "Max Continuous Discharging Current: 15A". In my mind, this would rule out the 30Q (which is a bummer becaue I love my 25Rs). Am I not understanding something here?

Thanks,

The advertised performance and actual performance of a battery is often slightly different and there are communities that test the battery, here is some info on the 30Q https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/t...-3000mah-18650…a-great-15a-20-battery.846955/ I’ve been using the 30Q in all FW devices but I’ll edit the first comment to add this additional resource and let people make their own judgement.

30Q is about 18A CDR, like the HG2 and VTC6. It's under-rated by Samsung, whereas the Sony is over-rated. HG2 quality seems to be fluctuating depending on batch or factory.
Oh man, I have a fresh pair of HG2s from Illumn in anticipation of my FW6, hope they do better, but thanks @Soda for the testing and @KeroZen for keeping that hope alive... my FW5 (w HG2s) was my daily for the last year and a half, barely used anything else, really want the FW6 to at least be it's equal w/ a new form.

Can any FW6 users comment on long-term (like 5 days) use of the on-board storage?

I left some herb in mine for like 3 days and kinda forgot about it.

Wasn't nearly as dry as I had expected it to be, for sitting on my desk pretty much unsealed. Still vaped great.

I need to do more data-gathering, and also try and test how strong/weak the smell is if it's loaded, but will definitely need some more time.

I am still happy with my FW6. It's been consistent and providing a nice experience.

Again, Im new to batteries so I have a few questions.

1) Are batteries rechargeable?

2) how long do yours last with the FW?

3) Anything a few time battery user should be aware of or tips you would pass?

1) Yes 18650 batteries are chargeable, but you need to order a charger separately. You want to get a Nitecore charger or something that is protected, you do NOT want to skimp on the charger for safety reasons. I use the Nitecore New i2 nothing too fancy but it is reliable and gets the job done.

2) a 30Q will go from 5 buzzes to 4 buzzes in about a bowl, but the batteries are top heavy so I'd guess you'd get about 2-3 decent bowls before you'd charge, generally I charge after every session because the FW6 performs best with full power. VTC5A I would only use one fully charged battery for one bowl, IMO the performance drop after that is too noticeable for it to be worth using on another bowl.

3) Order from a reputable source because a lot of fake 18650s are on the market, stored them in a plastic case or something non conductive (make sure its a battery case or stored in a manner that the battery won't jostle around unprotected). If you drop your battery onto a solid surface its a good idea to toss them away because venting a 18650 is a thing of nightmares. If you tear the plastic wrap around the battery look into rewraps or buy a new one because you do not want to use batteries with a torn vinyl wrap because it can cause it to vent if it interacts with metal. 5 dollars on a battery is not something worth risking venting a 18650 on. Generally replace your batteries after 6months - 1 year of daily use. If you EVER look at your battery and something seems off, maybe it looks slightly puffy, maybe theres a dent, it just does NOT look like the original form is some way, shape, or form TOSS IT OUT.

If you're thinking of getting a couple of HG2 (even against my recommendation against it) you HAVE to buy them online from a reputable source. You can 10/10 times find them in your local vape shop but they are the most counterfeited battery (or at least they were) and the fakes are EVERYWHERE. Your local vape shop is most likely pulling bulk orders off aliexpress or some other chinese counterfeiting company. All the vape shops I went to in my local area (like 4 of them) all had fake af HG2s (tell tale glossy ring on top) so its really not worth it to waste money and risk your safety for some quick convenience.

@Soda I was looking at IMR Batteries as they have the Nitecore charger as well.

When I searched there for the SAMSUNG 30Q 18650 it came up with several types. Which one are you specifically using?
