So I've put down a half dozen loads with the FW6 tonight, then pulled out the FW5.

FW5 just beats the ever living crap out of the FW6. But I like the FW6, so far, too. Not 100% sure I dont have defect, though.
Send it in! One of those times when hitting “like” feels wrong but gotta appreciate useful feedback. A FW5 user should be able to get performance out of a 6 np, it’s gotta be at least equal.

Changing temps was really easy once I understood the chart in the instructions.

The behavior that @Jill NYC is describing seems to be exactly how my fw6 functions and is exactly how the manual says it should work. For example you have a setting at 360. You'llget those 3 buzzes to tell you the range of temps that your locked into and then the 6 buzzes to tell you the selection that is set from that range in the chart.

@Brewervapesalot what issues are you having trouble with for changing the temps?

You can change all of the 3 levels to any of the temps listed in the included chart. When I first received mine I thought I was restricted to the levels in the chart but that is definitely not the case.

I'll describe how I do it below ,maybe another person describing it might help someone.

1. Decide which heat level you want for setting number 2 in the chart. I have mine set to 380. So that will be section 3 of the chart with selection 8 in the range.
2. Select the 2nd heat setting by squeezing the unit twice. It should buzz back twice.
3. Wait 2 to 3 seconds.
4. Click the button 7 times. It should buzz back 7 times.
5. Wait 2 to 3 seconds.
6. Click the button 3 times for that section of the temp chart outlined in the manual where 380 is. It'll buzz 3 times back.
7. Wait 2 to 3 seconds.
8. Click the button 8 times to select 380 from the list. It'll buzz 8 times back.
9. Wait 5 or 6 seconds and then click the button 6 times and it should buzz at you 3 times and then pause and then 8 times.
9. Be done.

You can use these same steps to change temp settings 3 and 4 but obviously you'll need to alter these directions slightly.

Hope it's helpful. I'm really enjoying my fw6 as I put more material through it.

Mostly I was just high and those instructions--a well written as they are--was intimidating at that moment.

I will try!

Non replaceable screen? Has to be quit solid...

The whole screen ceramic combo can be replaced is my guess. It's a small part and a good design. But not like FW5 where just screen can pop out for replacement.

I was also in that email group.
Got my invoice this AM. Steady moving through the list!
just to be clear, I believe ALL list-folks (up to Sept 30) were in that email group, but some emails said invoice "next week," some "a couple weeks" and possibly some even longer.

Looks like a good sized batch just went out!
Mine should be here Monday. Can't wait to test-drive!!

@Jill NYC sometimes my fw5 behaves like you mentioned ...seemingly random buzzes during a draw. I believe my switch can momentarily lose contact if I sort of push it to the side by accident. Not always, but occasionally. That would give similar behavior to letting go of the switch completely, but our mind thinks we are still pressing it and the buzz is random. The heater shuts off. I guess that could happen with the fw6 occasionally too, since the switch is more than just a button this time. I'll know more Monday when I have my 6 in hand. But suspicion is that's what's happening.....maybe that mixed with the occasional draw sensor warning?

Using this more, liking it more, working out the kinks I think.

Some comments for people to try and let me know if this works for you too?

1. Use the tool. The tool works. It's nice for loading, cleaning away excess material, and tamping. You can get a micro dose easily by lightly tamping a half load with the tool.

2. Pack it so it's easy to draw. Tamping helps. Too much tamping is bad. The pack should be tighter than loose, but not tight enough to cause any difficultly with air restriction. You should think "that's pretty free flowing" when drawing.

3. Let heater warm up a few seconds, followed by a long slower draw, and ending with cigar puffs. That will do it! :)

4. The mechanism. It's like the pax 1 clicker mouthpiece. Not necessary but you start liking it.

5. Man, super easy to clean, few parts, easy to access.

Edit: Now, an hour later, I cant get a decent cloud to save my life.... I think I gotta send this one in to be looked at. This just doesnt make any sense.

That's weird that it works then stops. Can you check the mouthpiece seal when this happens? I am wondering if you are pulling it out too far and it is losing a seal with the oring? Other than that I am trying to figure out what could be changing? Is the heater still getting hot when it stops working? Any other clues you can think of?

Screen isnt replaceable but is more sturdy than FW5's and pretty easy to clean actually.
The bowl screen is definitely replaceable. You just need to use a paper clip or something similar to push down on one side of the screen, which will cause it to tilt a bit and allow you to pull out the screen with tweeezers. Also, somebody mentioned that it is hard to cleanly de-bowl it... The key is to blow the contents out of the bowl via the mouthpiece while it is still warm. The avb will pop out nice and easy if it is still warm.

With that last point you touch an issue that is common to all these on-demand convection vapes: we have the promise that we'll be able to use them at the pace we want, not being forced to do sessions, taking a few hits, letting it cool down, coming to it later with the taste still fresh...

But in practice yes the taste is not spoiled by continuous cooking, that is true and a lovely feature that I can't deny. But whenever you let them cool down, the bloody ABV sticks like a soft caramel and the screen can clog sometimes after just a single occurrence! It's pretty annoying as you need to torch it afterwards and perform a thorough cleaning of the entire bowl.

This is not a Firewood specific remark, has been the case with all my vapes of this same class. To which most would answer that the solution is to only fill with the dose you intend to use in a single session, this way you get the fresh taste and you can blow-clean it easily when you are done.

When my abv is finished, but I haven't dumped it yet, I just take another draw or two to reheat it, and then dump it while warm. Might not be the best tasting hit, but it beats dealing with sticky abv. So my answer to your cleaning dilemma is to go "one toke over the line" for easier cleaning of the screen. That helps me with my fw5 and my fury2 & fury edge.

I was typing almost the same when I saw this... Simple and effective solution for my fw5 and 510 stems.

Off-topic a bit:

To dump the ABV yes that works, but I find usually that the screen clogging is already done and it's too late (say after a 6h break or a day resting in the stem that is)

Depends on the screen mesh size though, and bowl diameter... the ones from the 14mm MistVape system are notorious for clogging in my book for instance. The ones from RBT a bit less, but that being said 18mm systems are less prone to it overall, mine tend to self-clean over use.

Intermediate sizes from the Nomad and later Imp/Impcognito versions seem to sit in the middle, maintenance-wise.

The pathway of the lower unit passes the suction test. The mouthpiece is not pulled out too far. I am very conscious with draw speed and use a speed and technique that always works on the FW5. No matter how I adjust it, or pack amount and tightness, I'm getting very inconsistent results. I'm not sure the heater is turning on or if the draw censor is working properly. The warmth of the unit gets the wooden body hotter when I get clouds and stays cooler when I dont. What works well for me one session, doesn't in another session. Its frustrating but I have other vapes, mind if I send thus back for repair/review?

It's nice the screen is removable, thanks for sharing that, I would not have tried to remove it otherwise. It does get clean easily without removing, though, so replacement should not be needed very often unless your physically cleaning the scree . And damaging it, rather than more frequently soaking salt and iso.

This sounds exactly like what I was experiencing. I was perplexed as to what was going wrong the times it didn’t work. Although I suspected draw sensor sensitivity combined with the heater not working enough or consistently on mine. I was also getting some of the frequent buzzing behavior mentioned above (like 8 random buzzes after a failed draw). Mine is getting a look soon. Hope yours gets figured out also.

@Jill NYC sometimes my fw5 behaves like you mentioned ...seemingly random buzzes during a draw.
It doesn’t happen during the draw anymore (it was, but since getting it back it hasn’t happened once during draw), instead it happens once I finish the draw. Curious more than anything else.

You should think "that's pretty free flowing" when drawing.
Yes, mine has been nothing but free flowing. I pack it pretty tight, but I have never filled the bowl more that about 4/5 full.

Let heater warm up a few seconds, followed by a long slower draw, and ending with cigar puffs.
I never have to do the cigar puffs at end - only when the heater is cold - I will give a few puffs and then a nice draw.

I am wondering if you are pulling it out too far and it is losing a seal with the oring?
What is too far? How far out is ideal for stem to be placed?

What works well for me one session, doesn't in another session.
Before I got mine fixed, I was having same issue. Since I have gotten it back - I really haven’t had to think about my technique at all - other than a few puffs when cold. It has been very consistent (and this is coming from someone who had a long learning curve with my other unregulated vapes). Definitely seems like it needs to be checked by Marc.

If not a FW, then what? But that's a question for a different sub-forum, I think.
You should definitely wait on others to weigh in on dexterity worries - but, in mean time you should also go to “ask FC” and create a post - the more info you give us on what you want, the better suggestions you will get!

@caseball2051 - thanks for the detailed steps to change temps - that is very helpful!

Yes, thanks. My question here was more rhetorical because I didn't want to derail our thread. If it starts to look like the 6 won't be a good fit I will definitely take the question to "Ask FC".

I think if you can hold a deck of cards and squeeze lightly, you will have all the dexterity needed to engage the heater. Loading the bowl requires using finger dexterity, as does removing and putting back the tool and battery.

FUCK CANCER TOO !
.

So is @firewood holding back on sending invoices from the earlier FW6 sign-up list given ongoing design/performance concerns, or, are brand new units being sent out to new owners who are continuing to function essentially as uncompensated FW6 beta testers?

.

I don't need to be compensated. I'm happy to have gotten an early unit. It was obvious there could be problems. Not everyone is having them.

The consideration/benefit that I bargained for is a hobby all about alternative medicine, mixed in with a break from my day job that isn't boring, and getting a cool vaporizer early.

I walked into this eyes wide open. Sounds like from Jill NYC, it will be sorted, regardless.

I can be as critical of manufacturers as the next guy, so please don't take this the wrong way, but here, first, why would he pay someone to beta test when there's a whole bunch of qualified people who--as a whole--will essentially get that type quality control work done for free(?), and second, we are all excited to get it early, understand the risk because failed early units of all brands are commonplace. Third, by not holding up shipping the majority of people will be happier, and those few like me with apparent dunce caps will just have to sit in the corner until our units get repaired. I'm not going to complain about it. It's part of this hobby. I've never heard of marc not honoring his warranty.

Getting awesome results with my fw6.

I've had good luck with packing a half bowl not too tight but pretty tamped down.

I've also had success with full bowls that are fluffy and 3/4 full bowls that are more packed in there and tamped.

With temps at 380, 400 and 440 I'm getting my avb to a dark chocolate brown that I prefer with all my other Vapes.

I've been using a slower draw than my last post and I think that's helped my experience.

I did send my unit is for repair. I was one of the rare users with a stuck button. Marc had it back to me quickly and had great CS as usual.

I'm able to get visible vapor on my first draw from cold at 380 but the unit definitely works better as it warms up a bit.

I am stirring here and there but haven't tried not stirring yet. I just don't mind stirring I think it's good practice especially for convection.
