Disclaimer:

I haven't spend a ton of time tweaking my Splinter v1, I've mainly used it in wattage mode.

I use water pipes and vape at a desk 95% of the time

For me, the Tubo/tetraX is better in every measurable way.

Better taste, bigger clouds, much easier to use, compatible with more stems/rigs.

I don't dislike my splinter but if I could only have one, it would be a very easy choice.

I know @LAWTHEONE asked but I think e're not supposed to post comparison stuff in the specific vape threads.

They are quite different, but equally effective in my experience using Splinter V2 with temp control and Splinter Z Canary with wattage. Taste and power can be considered a fair match up imo

For sure a Splinter Z is more comparable with its larger heater at least, even more so a US Custom Z probably...

True no direct comparisons in individual product threads, so can go into more detail via PM or in an AskFC thread. We must keep this about the TetraX:

One thing I noticed with the Tetra heater that I posted in the TuboDual thread is that it extracts very evenly without any stirring. Temp control of course is a factor too, but I think it is a very efficient and effective heater design (and the OG Tubo was no slouch itself!)

I put an order in for a TetraX with the newest drop and I'm super excited! However the only box mod I own is a RX Gen 3 that I run my Splinter V2 on, which I know isn't capable of running the Tubo software (I currently run sur_myevic on it). Is it worth it to spend the $30 to grab a Cuboid 200 from somewhere to install the Tubo software on, or will sur_myevic work fine?

i asked which mod lamart suggested and he mentioned a cuboid 200. I bought one specifically for my tetraX, installed the tubo software and it's great.

Spend the $30 I say. The G3D does alright on autofire but it is outclassed by a mod running the tubo FW that FJ created to run his heater. The temps fluctuate all over the place on TC with surmyevic

Would you recommend TetraX + Mod or Tubo Dual. Is it vital the mod runs the tubo software?

Can one install the tubo software without a PC?

From the research I did before I bought my TetraX, the performance is going to be the exact same between the two (if you're running a similar mod with the tubo software installed), the only real difference is going to be the form factor. So really just depends on your use/preference.

Maybe I can get around that with virtualization, e.g., https://www.virtualbox.org?

Thanks. Tough decision and waiting to see what's next and how the Herbie 510 turns out…

Since I have had this little gem, I find myself gravitating to it much more than anything else. It's so easy to use, produces great vapor, and with wattage mode, I never worry about combusting. Just clean, near-instant, on demand convection deliciousness.

It's been such a joy to use thus far. Can't wait for my Tubo to arrive. :)

First off, awesome picture! Second, what wattages have you been using it on? Trying to get an idea of how to use mine before it arrives lol. Also does anyone know the average shipping time? Mine still says packaging but I'm itching to get it

@Verax:
I am curious why you prefer Power/Wattage mode, rather than TC/TCR mode? For example, Troy combusted at least twice recently using the Tubo on power/wattage mode. I have not used the Tubo firmware yet, but am very familiar with the excellent Artic Fox firmware on my 510 concentrate atomisers.

with wattage is it probably easier to combust, but i guess he's setting his tubo to 50w max.. right @Verax ? with how much wattage did troy combust with?

I think he's saying that wattage is more safe for him probably because he tried to use the tubo/tetra as 1 hit extractor at 240C and combusted..

Yeah, I have been between 45-49 watts. I am kind of a flavor chaser, so works well for my usage, and it’s not hot enough o combust.

Honestly, this is my first 510 experience. Even though it’s supposed to be supported, I have not been able to update the firmware with the Tubo one. So, I have been using wattage more out of necessity, but I think it’s perfect for my usage.
