Team NO SLEEP!
I really had also believed [and HOPED] that all must be related to black market oil carts... nothing can be trusted.

There are so many fakes these days, I would not be surprised if someone pulled one over on the dispensary and sold them tainted product. I imagine it happens far more frequently than the public knows about.

Cannot trust a cart ever.

How long have been people been vaping THC carts now? I never have so I don't know a lot about them.

But if THC carts have been in use for several years now, and these illnesses have just started popping up, I would assume it's something in the carts that's causing it. If it's vitamin E, where is it coming from? Could it be coming from some kind of pesticides being used on the plants?

Like I said, no experience with carts, but I'm pretty sure I won't be trying them out anytime soon either.

Just a dude
@hd_rider The vitamin e oil is apparently being used as a carrier or diluent for these carts, it’s been intentionally added to the carts’ ingredients. A popular commercial diluent used by many cart makers has been recently found to be using fucking MINERAL OIL. It’s some scary Wild West shit out there with these carts that have exploded as a quick & convenient delivery method way before anyone really knows what the fuck is actually in them.

I’m completely out of the loop on them also, never tried or even seen one irl. Kinda glad now because my health doesn’t need any wildcards.

There is no way to know at this point, but my money is on people adulterating carts to increase profits, not unlike what folks do/have done with coke or junk. I haven't done any coke in many many years, but it was very common to see bad guys cutting their coke with any white powder they could find, regardless of the danger that baby powder or talc or baby formula might lead to. There are plenty of dense liquids that could be used like fish oil or vitamin E or mineral oil etc.

I don't intend to buy any THC oils until my state goes legal (in January) when I can get it from a dispensary where it should be tested. There is NO protection in the black market.

Of course it IS possible that bad carts could get through inadequate testing for dispensaries, but the market will be watching closer now I would think.

Marijuana use by US college students up, highest in 35 years

About 43% of full-time college students said they used some form of pot at least once in the past year, up from 38%, a University of Michigan survey found. About 25% said they did so in the previous month, up from 21%.

The latest figures are the highest levels seen in the annual survey since 1983.

Florida, why am I not surprised?
While I think we all like the meme of Florida Man (And, the story is specific to Broward County.) civil seizures are a problem all over the country. You'll hear about it in your local news too. Often, with a pretty new police vehicle pictured in the back as the proper result of such dirty money.

I don't think such civil seizures will end soon because the government likes money too much and seizures are easy money. At the very least, we need to assure there are due process rights to any seizure AND have it be illegal to specifically allocate the money seized. That is, not only must there be a hearing that's fair, but also any seizures should go to the general fund rather than to the agency making the seizure.

I hear you, but, aren't things a little different today? I have no idea how college would have worked out for me if I had near unlimited access to cannabis in what ever form when ever I liked. Times of "no dope" were plentiful in the olden days, at least to the un-cool, like me.

Marijuana Banking Bill Will Get A Full House Floor Vote This Month, Sources Say

September 13, 2019
By Kyle Jaeger

A bipartisan bill to protect banks that service marijuana businesses will get a House floor vote by the end of the month, four sources familiar with the plan told Marijuana Moment.

House leadership made the decision following a closed-door meeting on Thursday, where they also determined that the vote would be made using suspension of the rules—a procedure that is generally reserved for non-controversial legislation.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced the plan to the Democratic Caucus, informing members that the vote would be held during the last week of September.

Voting on suspension would require two-thirds of the chamber (290 members) to vote in favor of the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act in order for it to pass. The bill, which cleared the House Financial Services Committee in March, currently has 206 cosponsors, including 26 Republicans.

No amendments would be allowed to be added on the floor under the suspension process.

Problems could arise if lawmakers aren’t able to rally additional votes from conservative members or if there’s pushback over the strategy from progressive lawmakers, though it is unlikely Democratic leadership would advance the bill if they didn’t believe they have the votes for passage.

While interest in resolving the banking issue is generally bipartisan, it’s within reason to assume that lawmakers on both sides of the aisle might have wanted the opportunity to offer provisions such as extending protections to hemp businesses or adding language promoting social equity policies.

Many expected this piece of legislation to receive a floor vote before the August recess, but that did not come to fruition.

In any case, the development comes as the Senate Banking Committee is also preparing to hold a vote on marijuana banking legislation, with Chairman Mike Crapo (R-ID) stating that his panel is “working to try to get a bill ready.” He didn’t offer a timeline, however, other than saying he hoped to advance the legislation by the end of the year.

It’s not clear if Crapo’s move essentially forced the hand of House leadership and played a role their decision to advance the bill so that Democrats won’t be seen as lagging behind the GOP-controlled Senate on cannabis reform, an issue the party has sought to take political ownership of.

Following Crapo’s statement on advancing the banking legislation, Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO), chief sponsor of the SAFE Banking Act, told Marijuana Moment that he welcomes the senator’s “commitment to resolve the banking conflicts that have been created by the misalignment in state and federal law on the issue of cannabis.”

“I remain focused on passing the SAFE Banking Act out of the House and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Senate as they take up the SAFE Banking Act or work to develop and pass similar legislation,” he said.

Banking access is largely seen as one of the most achievable pieces of cannabis legislation that stands to pass this Congress. Advocates and reform-minded lawmakers view it as one of the first steps on the path toward ending federal marijuana prohibition.

That said, there has been some disagreement within advocacy circles about whether it’s prudent to pass legislation viewed as primarily favorable to the industry before advancing comprehensive legislation that deschedules cannabis and takes steps to repair the harms of prohibition enforcement.

Hoyer’s office did not respond to Marijuana Moment’s request for comment by time of publication.

Once you can deal with the money aspect in a completely legal way, the war is over. There would be lots of battles in the future about which regulations should apply to legal weed. The war, however, would be over when the government tastes the "spice" of money; from then on, the spice must flow...

Pick up a joint instead: Vaping illnesses highlight flawed marijuana regulations

Terrible advice from a doctor. All vaping might be unsafe so smoke it instead? The doctor should have her license pulled. Fuck combustion.

I just posted the article in the mega thread for the same reason. If you read the confusing article, it seems the New York regulations themselves is a part of the problem. The article was written to seem like it applies to the entire problem, but, the doctor's concern seemed more limited to New York's concentrate requirements for medical patients.

THIS is why we can't have nice things.

We can't have banking for cannabis because, (looks at magic 8 ball), some people have not been paid off yet. The "some" in this case seem to be people of color. We need to take a holistic approach where everyone is happy before anyone can be happy. Profiting off of cannabis is a civil right!

Edit:
At least for some.

O'Rourke unveils plan to legalize marijuana, end war on drugs

Presidential hopeful Beto O'Rourke on Thursday unveiled a plan to legalize marijuana and end the war on drugs.

The former Texas congressman would grant clemency to those currently serving sentences for marijuana possession, establish a model for marijuana legalization and give grants to those affected by the war on drugs to help them benefit from the new industry.

Marijuana Mitch? How McConnell’s hemp push has made pot busts harder

Mitch McConnell’s big victory for his home state hemp industry may have made it easier for people busted for marijuana to get off the hook.

CBD-rich hemp flowers often look and smell the same as marijuana flowers that are high in THC.

“Testing before didn’t distinguish the quantity of THC,” said Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot. Without some sort of lab results showing that the substance had more than the legal limit of THC, “it just didn’t make any sense to accept the case.”

Asking The Truly Important Questions: Has Legalized Marijuana Increased Junk Food Sales?

A recent study published in the journal Social Science Research Networkfinds that junk food sales have increased by around 2 percent in states where marijuana is legal. Of course, this is not a huge uptick or anything, especially when compared to the 1.3 percent increase in areas of prohibition. But it does show that high fat, sugary foods still have a shot at becoming a stoner staple in areas of the United States where marijuana consumption is now part of normal society.

What? No it doesn’t. A 2 percent increase versus a 1.3 percent increase is noise.
