I picked up a vertical stashcase from 420edc and it fits the portside rather well. With just a bit of extra foam wedged around the sides and filling the lid, it makes me feel comfortable enough to stuff it in my edc bag with not much worries. I haven't went through the trouble of figuring out how to upload pictures on here yet, but I will eventually figure it out

RIP Shadow M, I hardly knew you.


After getting disappointing hits compared to my other devices, I had given up on my Shadow M and stored it away in the plastic tube. After two weeks I thought to give it another shot but found it in this condition. I scrubbed the body with steel wool before this picture but upon opening found the condenser was toast. I contacted DynaVap on Saturday by e-mail, then called a few times on Monday and Tuesday, but no one answered. They responded by e-mail on Tuesday saying rusting was to be expected in wet areas and to just clean and wax the Shadow M when the problem occurs. I wasn't satisfied with this response given the condition of the condenser and the unrealistic expectation of having to somehow sand the inside.

I reached Josh by phone today and to DynaVaps credit they weren't satisfied with that answer either. He offered to replace the Shadow M with a stainless model to avoid corrosion from my humid environment. I requested a return as I am ready to just walk away from this device but he staunchly refused, referencing their companies strict no return policy for used items.

A few things still have me curious.

At one point he requested I return the corroded Shadow M meaning they can accept used devices in the mail. If so, then why no returns?

He made it clear this issue only occurred because of the body treatment and the condenser is 100% medical-grade material and will not corrode, yet it is corroded. The explaination being that it spread from the body.

He also mentioned that the store page for the Shadow lists the likelihood of corrosion and the need to wax it which I'll quote.
"From Dynavap about the Shadow M: The nitrocarburizing process is a surface modification which does reduce the corrosion resistance of stainless steel a limited degree."

I'll mention that I only had the M for two months and used it less than 20 times. How could I have worn the protective wax from the entire device? I have several items treated with this same process and none have ever experienced the severity of corrosion this Shadow has.

They never state that they apply the protective wax to it anywhere. Most of the time if you take the time to clean your new dynavap before using, you will find black machine oil and stuff still on it. I'm pretty sure they were leaving that up to you. In no way am I condoning this though, just observations. I'd take the free stainless one so your not completely out anddo what you wish with it.

I'll keep you posted on that front. My Fluxer #60 wasn't ready for primetime last winter, but now it is! I ice fish and snowmobile a whole lot so I will definitely find out about it's performance in the cold.

There's that awesome customer service everyone here always talks about. You should have bought it from Puffitup. My guess is, Randy would have given you a refund without a second's hesitation and told you to keep the M. Some companies are interested in repeat business and others just think they are gods.

I am sorry to hear about your troubles with the Dynavap M. I dont have a shadow version - but my standard M has been a workhorse. Man, that shadow M looks disgusting! I live in soggy Oregon and I have never heard of such a thing. I know its a pain, but if you accepted a replacement of a standard M, you could sell it here or on the bay...I understand the desire to just walk away, tho.

Hey just curious what you use to clean your shadow? Also do you leave it in tube immediately after cleaning. Noting the site I have always kept my 2 shadows dry and haven't had any issues. i actually prefer the shadow in some cases as its easy to wipe clean. The surface treatment almost creates a non stick like surface. That being said I usually dry clean and wax after use amd dont store in the tube. What didnt you like initially about it? I did notice a difference in heat up and vapor w the shadow but i just heated diffrently to adjust. One I have kept brand new and unused made into an xl w a tip from @danielj . for now I just keep it pretty and look at it lol. " Christine the Pristine" Well maybe waxxed her a few times. Yeh she likes that. I'm sorry to hear bout the corrosion tho. Id take the m as well. Especially if you didnt like the coating. Like others said atleast you could sell it and get what you do like. Id admit care is required but thats byfar out of my expertise lol. Good luck w whatever the outcome. Or you could always just put the tip in a TRWW stem from @RogueGuy or some of the many accessory makers here. Custom is king

Yea mine did have the machining oil when I first cleaned it.

Cleaned only a few times with cotton rounds and tips soaked in isopropyl.

I'm curious what you are insinuating I did to result in this corrosion? What am I not owning? Besides a working M at this point.

Not discontinued really. It was a limited edition model. When they're gone they're gone and become the pursuit of collectors. When it was introduced, George cautioned that the finish was of a more delicate nature than the regular workhouse indestructible models. A blemished Shadow should still be functional, just not pretty.

I always allow my Vapcaps to completely airdry before reassembly and certainly before storing away in a sealed environment.

It's unfortunate this experience has soured your opinion of the Vapcap. It is a stellar vape that can rock your world once you get to know her.

My shadow M suffered the same fate, just throw it away and approach Dynavap with a startup mentality, bound to f*ck up... but what a product.

I chucked mine in the trash, I'm hoping Dynavap learns from this!

I just DON'T store my Shadow M in the "tube".

It sits partially put together in an eyeglass case, while I use its TIP in OTHER stems.

Currently, I have my Shadow M tip and the XL condenser from my NonaVong XLS, in a short glass stem, with carb, that I'm checking out, from @RogueGuy.

DON'T let its Simple and Straightforward "appearance" FOOL you.

SHE... IS... NIIIICE!


I HAVE a titanium spinning mouthpiece, but never really quite liked the ergonomics of it, so I have a... "Stoner Engineered" Mouthpiece on the condenser.


The "Mouthpiece" is made from a silicone connector piece for medical tubing.

You CAN, of course, hit this with JUST a TIP on it and NO condenser OR mouthpiece.

(I actually pulled some pretty HARD CORE clouds with it, that way, with only my Shadow M tip and a finger feathering the carb!)

BUT it was DESIGNED with CONDENSER use, in mind, AND using it with a spinning mouthpiece DEFINITELY makes feathering the carb a NATURAL fluid movement with the finger, while spinning the stem back and forth!

Here's that same stem with the regular condenser from my Shadow M, NO mouthpiece.


Depending on your preference, she hits JUSSST FIIIINE, WITH or WITHOUT a mouthpiece!

Here she is, setup with XL condenser, Titanium Spinning Mouthpiece, and Shadow M tip.

(I really need to scrub my cap. lol)

I mainly use my Shadow M tip in my stems now, because my Ti tip just seems to "brown out" my herb too fast.

THAT beauty, makes the carb/air port, EXTREMELY EASY to find, and COMFORTABLE to USE, EVEN in the DARK, with your EYES CLOSED, after several capfuls or TEN.

A Verrrry Nice feature of this stem!

This EASY to FIND and USE carb will likely become a signature feature of the carbed RWW glass stems! KUDOS @RogueGuy!


AND...

You CAN move the necessary "X-ring" forward to BLOCK the carb, to suit your preference, quite EASILY and ACCURATELY, if you wish.


Similar to the "Set It And Forget It" style of carb use, like the Omni, REGARDLESS of which condenser you use!

ANOTHER nice feature!

The THICK glass, ALSO gives it a SOLID FEEL and EXTRA protection in case of the INEVITABLE "fall"!


She's a SOLID PERFORMER and QUITE a VERSATILE
Glass stem!
