It's my belief the reason the FlowerPot excels, is it's ability to heat lots of air and subsequently my Cannabis super quickly! So are you guys attempting to shorten that time by preheating? I'm not so sure I want to precondition my herb? Seems like a lot more work and more hot surface area to burn myself on.. touch wood.
I'm still pre-vaping the buds so it breaks up in my fingers, I leave the carb cap on the Vrod while I'm crushing my herb for 30 seconds to 1 minute, it heats the air more thoroughly. I also place the Vrod on the shovelhead bowl for about 10-15 seconds before I start puffing on the mouthpiece to preheat the bud. I find preheating the carb cap and bowl gets much fuller extraction at the same temp on the PID. That's just my experience.

i also preheat my carb cap and bowl a bit before packing it up and smoking it, get way thicker vapour like this @ 610f but i dont like to toast my bud by letting them in the bowl, i find it taste less terpy... and i love that first hit super tasty hit...

and when i dont preheat the bowl, i tend to get uneven avb, i have a very large pulmonary capacity, i tend to extract most if not all of my bowl in one long draw, and if i dont preheat, the bottom avb is slightly greener than yellow brownish of a well extracted avb, but when i preheat the bowl, or im at my 3-4 consecutive hit, the avb is much more evenly extracted

Preconditioned meaning heat soaking the head? If you do mean that, I definitely think that adequate preheating will provide a nice, even roasting. (Naturally, the depth of the avb color will be contingent on the set temp. & your draw.) I suck at analogies, but l liken it to when charcoal coals on a barbecue hit that perfect heated roasting glow.

I've been heat soaking for about 10 min for the few times I've used it. I think that was the popular minimum suggested heat time.

As I use it, more & more, I'll find my sweet spot.

What? :hmm: Who is them? :spliff:

my method to soak only the bowl without roasting your bud, no SiC dish on the top of the VRod

Pre-heating the bowl (which you can do before loading) gives it more of a conduction element in addition to the convection heat, so it should extract even faster/better and may give somewhat different effects.

I don’t do it, although I may experiment with it more soon, but I think it’s worth trying if you want to extract faster or get hybrid heating.

Just like the carb cap or pre-heated carb cap it’s not necessary, it’s just another option for those who want to experiment. :)

Preheating everything can give better results, especially at low temps. Lots of discussion previously in the thread about it.

I think I started doing it because v1 of the lollicap and then the SH SC were big heavy chunks of metal that would drop the head temp when put on the head. The later revisions of the carb cap dont really need it as the amount of metal was significantly reduced.

Pre heating the bud would be madness, I tell you, MADNESS!

I pretty much turn mine on when I get home from work and leave it on until I leave the next morning(Some of my workday is from home). Rarely do I cap a Vrod (except when dabbing) or preheat my herb or chamber but I’ll give preheating a shot.

I recently added the WE to my collection 2 weeks ago. I think I've settled on 640f as my set it and forget it temp. When I increased my draw strength I get very uniform abv. When I'm ready to finish a bit earlier than 4 or 5 hits I just slow down my draw and can really crush whatever is left. I really like how this vape is versatile with how it can extract. The only thing I'm not use to seeing is my glass getting spightly dirty from scooby snacks getting through the screen.

What kind of screen are you using?

especially at low temps.
I've tried low temps (below 700 F) and there just seems too much missing. I've flown high a very long time at 747, but recently tried lower temperatures and compromised at 727 with my ShowerHead.

I have the double weave screen installed. I was thinking to install another screen as well but I haven't yet.
An Ash Catcher solved this issue for me and ideally I'd change the water in that daily, but I think I'm lucky just to remember to shut off the PID at night.

I'm not sure how long I went without cleaning my bowls, stems and screens, but I recently was forced to move to new glass thanks to Nawanda's butter fingers. I thought the new glass pieces sucked, too much restriction. Then I performed a deep clean of the bowls, stems and screens.. wholly airflow batman! Needless to say the new glass pieces are fine, I just need to clean my screens more often despite ether debowling and brushing out while still warm.

On the way!!!

I've actually experienced the opposite and am allowing the screen to get clogged to add some resistance. So far I like the added draw resistance. I've still got a tiny circle in the middle where there is still just screen. With a completely cleaned screen I just have to slow down my draw and it works fine as well.
I'm wondering with the catcher if I'll prefer a very clean screen because of added restriction. Ill know soon enough!

Its great how all FP's can be used in so many different ways.

I eventually settled on never needing to go over 630f with the showerhead and VRod, and got very dark brown, even ABV. It still surprises the shit out of me that the guy I gave my VRod to is down at 550 and getting results he's happy with.

I think he likes his ABV a hell of a lot lighter than most of us tho :)

700 is the max I've gone with the WE. What controller and coil do you have? I have the NV pid and coil and I feel like 747 might combust unless I use a very very aggressive draw. That is the beauty of the flowerpot. If you like to draw fairly aggressive you can and get similar results to a slow draw in the 600s.

The DW screen is great but...Every time I use my Vrod as an enail with strait concentrates and forget to pull the screen or use a glass bowl(mine broke sad), within a few bowls of flower I have to clean it, I can go at least a week if only using flower and a fine grind from the BCG or HR.

I never got the hang of higher temps and combusted too often while trying, but also my lungs cant take the higher temps anyway so I was kinda forced down the temp scale.

Training myself to only inhale as slowly as is needed to only just get the perc bubbling on the only glass piece I have also meant I was always reverting back to that inhale speed without thinking and again, smoke :)

Entirely down to me failing at it, obviously :)

this is my happy place as well. Kinda settled on it after experimenting up and down and all around, my AVB is as you describe* and no irritation or coughing (unless my eyes are bigger than my lungs:ko:). I freakin' love my VRod with its stable temps and repeatable excellence. I keep a jug of distilled water by my relaxation stationTM©® but most always opt for the anhydrous experience, it's like riding a flavour train.
*crazy VRod fanboy statement*
The VRod extracts flower so quickly and completely, it feels to me like more terps/actives/goodies are delivered. It'll do what it does, predictably, as long the user desires or is able to function. #neverendinghoneymoon

EDIT: forgot about * So looking in my killer wooden AVB jar made by our very own @Melting Pot and right now mine's more like dark caramel. But that is user determined and not down to the Vrod's capability, I'm not looking to extract the darker stuff during the daytime & early evening. This thing can devastate me. I gotta get some pics up of these crazy beautiful jars from MP, I'm slacking for sure but will redeem myself. got no extra oomph these days :disgust:

The temperature varies depending on a persons unique draw style, speed and glass etc. I use a draw speed that feels natural and most comfortable with my favorite piece of glass then tailor the temperature to it. I’m at 665°f on my Vrod for flower and glass piece I use most, when I change glass temporarily I change my draw to fit it. Basically I dial in one and compromise with the other glass I might use. In other words, there is no one correct temperature. One can go lower for taste and higher for strength and speed. Even at my set 665°f I can slow down and get thicker or speed up and get flavor. Guess it’s my sweet spot but is still subject to change, lol. I love these things and love learning them still!

NewVape PID and coil, and while I have a WE which I demoed.. that is slated to go to JamRock and I did not want to take a risk of any build up on the head, so I use my trusty ShowerHead at these temperatures. I guess my draw speed is fairly aggressive and short. If my draws were longer I suspect I would be combusting.

Do you use a carb cap on your vrod? I've been reading about those and am considering it but honestly I'm enjoying the WE as is.
On another note with this being TI I've been considering the simple diy anodizeding method with 3 batteries to get a nice blue color. Seems like a fun project but a bit of work including acquiring some ti wiring and small clamp connectors.
