Discontinued The Grasshopper

Got my hopper back. It worked one single time and now won't turn on again.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
And I felt bad about my 3 weeks of hopper time .. Mine is pretty much one and a half foot in the grave because the clicker doesn't connect or I get 2 sec red light and then blue without heat.
If I fuck around with it enough and suck on a empty chamber it finally goes back to heat but not before going into "the whole hopper gets super hot and the convection feels wayyy warmer .. Like its heating up to +250 Celsius or in F it is" f you and your unit of measurement" and the taste gets bit uhh.. Circuit boardy? And then I click it off in panic and then next time I use it then it's totally fine for a session
Next session it becomes fucked up again and I need to bang on it, suck on it ... Hard and try to get some heat up!?! :bang: to get something unlocked or unclogged?!?
Sry about how sexual it got in the end but I am pretty sick of spending 200 bucks a year on shipping if its going to fail so often and also they forgotten to declare it a returning fixed item or whatever but I payed import tax 3 times now of the hopper :shit:

UGH! So sorry. This is what I fear when mine comes back, if it ever comes back. What a mess HL is.:shit::peace:

I did analysis and result I'm healthy . Doc says I got great canches to get my GH back before I die.
Yeah, but will it work? See above. Ugh!!! :peace:

Was one of the original KickStarter backers. Bought the stainless tube storage container. Still hasn’t shown up. The Grasshopper itself? Too inconsistent. Too fiddly. It languishes in a drawer. Maybe by the time they crank out the promised storage containers they’ll have a Grasshopper 2.0 out that actually works.

Not holding my breath.

Hi folks!

First post! (aside from my intro post in the lounge)
I’m here to share a pretty amazing hack i’ve not seen anyone else mention yet....which means i probably missed it at some point between posts about batteries lol. Here it is:

The stock mouthpiece for the fury2 (without the screen) fits snugly on grasshoppers with PFE. It creates a PERFECT seal, and allows you to pull on the hopper with very much the same intensity (and vapor production!!) as when it’s pulled through glass...PLUS your lips stay cool as a cucumber! This combo has become my travel rig when flying. Before discovering this fury2 mouthpiece thing i would simply use a short metal drip-tip in the PFE, which is also nice...but only for a hot or two...but the fury2 mp literally cools the vapor completely for a whole personal session. It really works very, very well.

Has anyone mentioned this before and i missed it? It’s just too good to not have been a thing already lol

Anyway, happy to be a part of this kickass community! Happy vaping!

Does anyone recall anyone mentioning cleaning their batteries as well as the Hopper threads and terminals? I just had an issue with mine not turning on and/or clicking with no lights or heat. Turned the back end some and it would work so I cleaned up the threads with contact cleaner on a cotton swab. While I was at it I looked at the negative end of the battery and noticed how dirty they were. I cleaned them up from a dirty gray to nice and shiny again and the Hopper is working well again.

Another question; how dark should a Hopper be able to make your AVB? I have one that will make it black on high.

Thanks!

First I recall hearing this and good to know. I have two Furies, both working and my dailies, while my Ti Hopper currently in RMA-ville never had a PFE. It’s an intriguing setup but I won’t give HL any more money until I get a working Hopper. Perhaps never since they’re lousy at nearly everything they do.

very light ISO works on both threads and batteries, very fine sandpaper on battery terminals, and Blu-Tac on threads - all have been mentioned and tried herein mostly with success. I’ve tried the former two and bought Blu-Tac recently in hopes my unit will be back soon. My unit was well maintained and didn’t need that much thread and battery cleaning (I rotated my batts). Happy Hoppering - wish I could join you with mine but Noooooooo! :bang::peace:

I tried iso with moderate success. WD40 Specialist Contact Cleaner does a much better job. I cleaned threads with iso until no more black on the swab and then cleaned with the contact cleaner and the swab was dark grey again. Also the batteries cleaned up much better than with iso. Iso got the surface but the CC actually took the tarnish off and made them shiny.

Never tried WD40 Specialist Contact Cleaner & assume it’s for the batteries. I would not use anything toxic on the threads.

As for AVB color, I think it depends on the person and their habits. I never used my Hopper on 5 (max), mostly 3.7 - 4.2 and natively, and AVB was never consistent but not the dark part of the spectrum. It depends on material (moistness & density), draw strength, temp (and temp stepping), etc. Some like to extract to very dark AVB while others not so much. From the beginning my pre-order Ti wasn’t terribly consistent but it worked - for over a year and then it died. I compared the Hopper’s AVB to both of my Furies and the Furies were very consistent by themselves and with each other. Would love my Ti back working optimally as I know it’s great when it works. Perhaps I’ll be reunited with it again soon.:peace:

No. Not just for the batteries. Clean the threads with it. If you are worried that it doesn’t evaporate well enough do a second cleaning with iso. Iso just isn’t a strong enough cleaner.

I run the same batches of the same strains through different Hoppers.

For two Hoppers (one Ti and one SS) I start at 2.5 and progress to 4.0. The SS Hopper will produce very dark brown and black ABV. The Ti will produce dark brown ABV.

For two other Hoppers (also one Ti and one SS) I start at 4.0 and progress to 5.0. The SS Hopper will produce dark brown ABV, the Ti Hopper will produce light brown ABV.

So with everything else being the same, some Hoppers produce darker ABV (and at lower temps) than other Hoppers. Range is from light brown to black.

Seems to be the nature of the beast...

Great test! Was the flower amount, number of draws, draw time and method (native, PFE, through water or filtration, etc.) all the same? Also, their batteries aren’t consistent either as I know firsthand with my Ti.

I want to agree with @Baron23 and it shouldn’t be the nature of the beast either. If these are newer models it’s even more concerning. :peace:

Yes, I'd have liked to hear that the 'test' runs were all done using the same 'good' battery, at its' fullest state of charge. Sounds like a pain in the butt though.
Nonetheless, I like your comparisons and having experienced a lot of hoppers myself, I concur with your observations.
I don't take any issue with your 'Seems to be the nature of the beast' assessment! It's your post, in which you may subjectively muse all you care to.
You leave us all guessing as to effect. My guess is you're pretty equally ripped using any one of them...

I gravitate to the one that gives me the least draw restriction; this is one main factor that I've noticed going downhill over time no matter which hopper it is, and my unsubstantiated humble conclusion is that internal gunk-ing is one of the main hopper killers.

I have come to really dislike the uncomfortable amounts of heat these things throw off, both in vapor and 3 distinctly different ways from the body of the hopper; central body and mouthpiece build up heat simply from use, as-in more than one hit at a time; back-end 'short' that gives a hot shock to fingers, and; front end 'short' - when a finger touches body and front end simultaneously. Both shorting conditions are painful, period, like, ouch!
I currently have 3 short pieces of silicone tubing slid onto one of my hopper/pfe's and these are the main places I'll touch with fingers or lips. All this is on hopper with most draw restriction and I'm just waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for one or two to come back from warranty before sending this one back for re-grooving.

Got a response from HL about the dead repaired unit. Said they're going to send me a used replacement back end that should fix the issue. Not sure why the hell they would send it back in the first place if they know what the issue is and apparently didn't fix it....whatever. Hope this back end works because as much as I hate to admit it I really miss using the Hopper.

I don't consider these observations to be the results of "tests". This is from everyday usage over a long period of time.

I load the Hopper chamber with a Delta-3D Studios funnel, which provides pretty consistent quantities. I get two sessions out of each load. I take 1 draw of 10 seconds and one draw of 8 seconds for the first session. On each draw I click the Hopper off and continue to draw until I no longer feel any heat. For the second session I take four draws, stepping the temp up as I go. I always use the stock front end (PFE got WAY too hot for me) and hit the Hopper native. I get satisfactory effects from each session with each Hopper.

I rotate 12 batteries through the Hoppers. All batteries are fully charged before the first session. All batteries are relatively new, and can probably hold enough charge for more sessions than I am putting them through. I rotate them each week, trying not to use the same battery in the same Hopper for more than one week at a time.

I think the variables are pretty well controlled in this usage pattern, it's just the Hoppers that are different.

Thanks! I can see SS behaving similar to each other as should the Ti with each other, and differences between both type are feasible. I don’t know what else to say. If you’re OK with it then I guess that’s the main thing.

HL replies to my latest rant and it was again underwhelming and incorrect. Nor did they answer my concerns about my unit being in RMA for 12 months while others have received their repaired units in weeks recently. “We’re getting to October (2018) now.” Just completely dumbfounding and bullshit! I’m giving them a slim chance to provide a reasonable explanation by tomorrow or I’m requesting a refund on my battery order. Un-fucking- believable they are. I’m done with them! With my refund I’ll put it toward another portable vape that actually works and doesn’t need 12 months of repair!! :peace::peace:

I have 3 Ti Hoppers. All work but they are all different. One there’s a little green left but mostly brown, the one I use daily will make a reasonably dark avb and the third is hot and makes medium to dark avb on low and black on high.

Did they tell you they are now repairing rma hoppers send in in october 2018... if yes they are lying I send my rma hopper in april 2018 and they said it will take another month till it is repaired (when did they send you that replay)... this company is a real joke...

They did indeed. I mailed it to them in September 2018, received confirmation from USPS it was received several days later in September yet HL didn’t log it as received in October until early October. I’ve emailed them several times asking WTF and why many on here (not by name - I wouldn’t do that to anyone!) were sending in their units after mine and getting them back in weeks. I’ve gotten no real substantive answer other than their usual BS. They are a joke indeed. After today I’m done with them unless they satisfactorily reply, which they likely won’t...:peace:

If so they are even bad lyers and stupid to not coordinate what they are telling people... as said earlier I send mine in april 2018 and they wrote me some days ago it will take one month till it will be repaired... It is ok if they had problems and state that, but lying and thinking we are stupid is a different think .. I am also done with hopperlabs... hope I will get my hopper working flawless back... but I will not give them anymore money for sure... I am really interessted how they manage to stay alive... why does nobody in the vaporizer industry copy there heating element and bring oit a reliable product.. do not think they can patent... think it is technology which also existet before for other things which they implemented in the hopper... so there should not be a patent.. but do not know... jopperlabs is only behead of other vaporizer manufacturers because of the heating element in my opinion... for me the pen form is not really important...

I agree with you 100%. I thought you had gotten your unit back but I misread your post. You’ve been waiting almost 18 months (6 months longer than me), which is absolute nonsense!

You’re right about the form factor: novel, compact and sleek but it’s unreliable in operation though I love being able to take 1-2 hits at a time and leave it at that. But it’s unreliable and so is HL as we’ve witnessed. I doubt I’ll hear back from them today so I’ll ask for a refund for my battery (and silicone tip) order - and put that toward a vape that actually works. I live in a legal state as of recently so stealth is not a big concern but I do like portable dry herb vapes for their flexibility and being able to take them on the go. I dabble in concentrates and extracts but enjoy flower the most.

I may be done with HL after today. Enough BS!! :peace:

Haven't been around here in quite a while, but thought I'd drop in to this thread and say that since the USB port on my Fury 2 went and died (damn MicroUSB to the deepest, darkest pit forever) I've been using my Hopper since it's the only vape I have I can use without dealing with lighters, torches or external heaters. It's ... doing the job, but I've found out that my supposedly repaired hopper still requires a double click to reheat after the auto-shutoff which is supposed to be old behaviour. Once I find another vape I can use as my daily driver, I'll probably ship the Hopper off again and see what happens. I really wish HL would release a 510 threaded heater. Most mods available now can push more than the 45 watts the heater takes for much longer and with batteries that are much easier to replace. Oh well, I'll just keep on dreaming.
