Just checked mine, and it is showing the same signs of wear as @tepictoton. It's also wearing on the bottom of the middle plate, on the three "prongs" that lock onto the bottom plate.
Mine is a 3 plate sapphire, from the very first batch sold. Will be interesting to see if issues are a result of a bad anodizing job/batch, or if people all along the product life and colors have the issue.
Definitely disappointing. Has anyone written an email to @Grinders for Life yet, in case they do t check this thread often?

I admit I haven't kept up with any GAS, kinda skipped over that phase and have been using the same Kannastor for like 5 years. But I swear back in the day this site used to stress that all anodized grinders did that?

I remember the slx having aan issue with this, peeling of of anodizing, and I am sure they did correct this. I also have aan slx 2.0 and till this day have not lost any coating on that one.
Strange thing is this stripping is taking place in spots that normally should not see this type of wear (less after such a short period of time). I have a feeling the strong magnet might be to blame in this case, making the plates hit on those spots every time you close it...
Really still hope @Grinders for Life chimes in to say this might not have happened...because I really cannot believe nobody else reported this before if this was 'normal'
Edit: my friends just told me it's that freaking paint stripping sour diesel you put in there eating away the coating

To me, that looks like wear, not chipping, but I guess that's just semantics.
Maybe this is from pressing the two halves together and them not being completely lined up? It looks like the results of metal on metal.

My comments on wear and tear hold true - my anodised finish has held up extremely well on all of my sections which are Emerald, Sapphire and OG-Hematite, I guess they were coloured quite early on in terms of batches sent to be anodised, it is also a different alloy stock to the current production batch from what I have gathered. Perhaps worthy to note, @Grinders for Life.
But also, it's not without damage.
I have seen and commented on similar wear, but on the central pin in the bottom chamber section. The hexagon has been abrased on it's outer points. It's become worse now, but it's still a tiny surface area.
My mid-plates have held up well, I guess they've been protected to some extent by bits of herb that stick to the central pin. I thought there was no damage here, but scraping some of that herb away does show a tiny speck of silver on my dark hematite plate.
All metal grinders will shed and contaminate to some extent. So do my metal vapes. It's undesirable, however I find the risk worth the pay-off.
I do believe there will eventually be options for titanium and stainless steel BCG's, which would be more appropriate to anyone being properly careful in terms of biocompatability.

I placed my order on July 16th and just received an email that it was now complete. Now, the waiting game begins. I am pretty excited to test out the BCG compare to my other expensive grinders. I bought a Space Case back in 2013 and a Phoenician grinder in 2015. Space Case company left a bad test in my mouth after I poked a hole in my screen. The Phoenician appeal to me by having a removable screen, which is badass, but never collect any kief. Hopefully, my BCG will outperform my previous grinders. I chose a Fine plate grinder to complete my collection. I might never use my Space Case or Phoenincan grinder ever again, but time will tell. Anyways, I am pretty set with grinders for a while until something better comes along.

Hmmm...being "set" with grinders is a confusing concept for me. Is that some kind of new-agey thing?
Your GrAS will need attention eventually. Don't abandon it, as that is just cruel. Your GrAS deserves your support, and you deserve the comfort it offers.

Technical/nerdy: is placing a nugget on the center better than placing it towards the outside teeth for achieving best consistency? I'm sure in real life there's no difference.... but, brains

I wouldn't think so because the fine plate has the same size holes everywhere on the plate and when I jam a big bug into the top plate off to one side it grinds up very evenly.
Never hurts to try though.
Do these still have a long lead time @Grinders for Life ?

Finally! I really like the way it grinds and the colors. But opening the section with the ground herb is difficult and I end up spilling some in the process. Hoping it will relax over time- (do magnets relax?)

Yeah, it takes a bit of getting used to. I wondered if I was going to like the magnetic lock because of that, but I love the convenience now. you just have to find a good technique that works for you. I put my thumbs together on opposite sides of the chamber I want to open, and gently pry it apart, by rolling my thumbs together. It prevents that sudden jerk of force from the magnets losing grasp.
Not sure I'm explaining that well, but I can upload a vid at some point tomorrow maybe to show my technique at least.

The magnets are not likely to lose their strength any time soon, but as Verax mentioned, it's really just a matter of technique. After a bit of experimentation and practice, you should be able to separate the pieces smoothly with little effort. Here's how I take mine apart (was a bit more awkward than normal since I was reaching around the camera):
This grinder is just ridiculously awesome. I've gone thru countless grinders and none of them put out such a consistent Grind. I really like the fine plate; the grind feels like a medium to the GR8TR's fine, which I found to be just a wee bit too fine, so this is perfect for me. And unlike the GR8TR's fine plate, the holes in the BCG's fine plate don't constantly get clogged.
I can't put the dang thing down; I keep fiddling with it and admiring it. It's like a functional piece of art!

As others above have said (and shown), it just takes a little time to get used to opening.
Someone earlier in the thread equated it to opening an egg. (Not sure I completely agree with that, but a lot of people felt that was very useful!)
Basically, you need to crack open one side instead of lifting the whole thing up.
Glad you finally got yours - looking forward to hearing your thoughts after a little time.
