@Obsessed 2 hey bud, you still digging the VG? I got @PPN comparison between the VG and brick, and I know you've got both as well. Can you weigh in?

I'm loving my SBrunt. Fast, powerful, great flavor, huge clouds. The genie has my interest though.
Absolutely love my VG! I recommend it everyone as the biggest sleeper vape out there. I dare anyone to hit a VG for the first time, of course with a single-flame torch, and not say "Woah, wtf? Seriously?!?"
It hits hard and harsh and I love that about it. It's a no nonsense vape. I reserve my VG for getting baked and needing the full spectrum blast if you know what I mean. Usually at night as the last hoorah. Comes out a bit more on weekends :brow:
It's funny you brought up SB in the same post. I received my VG at the same time or within a day apart. It took me a good handful of uses to get the hang of my SB Jr. It hit hard and smooth. Much smoother than the VG. In the end, I traded away my SB Jr. I felt the VG was the same quality of hit with a lot less trouble. I can dig the ritual of the SB Jr. I loved it's quality. In fact I think I enjoyed conditioning and polishing the wood more than vaping from it. But in the long run the VG sits nicely in the hand, is easy to clean, super portable, and quickly became my preference.

Thanks for the in-depth @Obsessed 2. Looks like I need to just go for a VG for portability reasons. The dynavap is cool for travel, but I wish the bowl was bigger. I've been curious about the SB Jr for travel, but keep coming back to the idea of a VG...

The hand carved line looks real nice and less "crack pipe" looking than heating a vapcap in public.

The spiral top is taller than a regular round top, fyi. I was getting serious wood flavor from the spiral top and it was a result of approx 1cm of wood that isnt protected with some sort of metal heat-shield. I devised a heat shield out of 304 SS for this small section of wood and it is very effective. However I prefer the short round top. It sits better in the hand and the flame is closer to the material. In addition, the round-top hand-carved pipe fits incredibly well into a Pelican 1030 case for on-the-go protection. Stay lifted!

In have owned a vaporgenie since February of 2013. It was my second vape purchase with the first being a mflb.

I used to use it often but after acquiring a few other Vapes and even a few butane powered ones, the genie was relegated to my vape shelf.

I had always used it with a soft flame because when I got it I was intimidated by torches having never used one. A couple weeks ago I broke it out and cleaned it thoroughly and used it for the first time with a single flame torch.

I was completely blown away. I feel like I've been missing out this whole time. The experience was great and it was much easier than I thought it would be. The flavor wasn't the best but I was able to get a nice even roast and big satisfying hits.

If you haven't tried a torch yet, do it!

@Obsessed 2 coming back to the VG vs SBJr comparison. It sounds like the VG is just as quick as the brick, with just as good flavor? Sounds like the brick is smoother, which I'm guessing is the length of the vapor path. How about bowl size, and ease of cleaning between the two? How about ease of combustion? I've got the brick dialed in, but it took awhile to get there. How steep is the curve when using a single flame torch with the VG? You said the brick hit hard, I'm guessing the VG hits hard, by everyone's comments.

Thanks to this thread being alive and specifically you're post I picked the VG from the "shoebox" in my signature to put it in the "regular back up section". It's my first vape from back to 2009-10 when I made my first unsuccessfull attempt to quit combustion. Now that I FC, have more experience, and reading stuff here, I now know how to appreciate it to it's true (high but raw) level with a single (small) flame torch . Even if I deeply knew I had kept it for a reason all this time. I spend half an amnesia lemon g hitting it exclusively tonight.

Bowl sizes are very similar iirc. Speed of use goes to the VG. You simply unscrew, I think it's a half or 3/4 turn to open and that's it. This can be done immediately after a hit. With the SB Jr, you have the hot glass to mind if you wanted to stir or to repack.
Ease of cleaning also goes to the VG, in my opinion.
Danger of combustion is equal imo. Learning curve is almost non-existent with the VG.

@Obsessed 2 On my walnut handcarved unit the only wood in the air path is below the screen. So either they're different either I don't get what you mean for the woody taste and sleeve. I think I get some woody taste but from after the load and screen.

@nonamekevin I was combusting often with it back in 2010 coming straight from heavy combustion. Now coming from several convection vapes intensively rotating:lol::rockon::leaf:I didn't combust ones with even dark brown abv using single torches with the flame set on low . As for maintenance, I use the same screen of 2010 that suffered some combustions with only some pipe brush cleaning with a very correct taste.

Yeah, no worries. Being clear in my communication is not something I am known for irl. I'll see if this pic attached here...

You can see in the black short round top on the left there's very little exposed wood in comparison to the talker spiral top on the right.

Ok mine has a really small space uncovered less than your black one. (sorry for the lousy pic my vg is less of a mess in real life)

Oh that's truly interesting! Huh. Quite the variance!

I hear ya. Black one is actually no longer with me as I traded it away when my teak carved came in. And I empathize with your statement, my vapes aren't that bad in real life either

Hey @Obsessed 2, last I heard, I was on the reddit waiting list for the black one. I don't frequent reddit anymore though, but it sounds like it's still converting the masses!

Hi
I'm going to buy a walnut Classic
is there a video how to use it with single flame torch? the flame should almost touch the side of the "head"?

I heat the ceramic heat filter with the flame for around 10 seconds kinda moving the flame in little circles to heat the filter evenly before inhaling and continue heating when taking the hit, I stop
heating a few seconds before finishing.

I know @paytonpenn used to have a few good videos using it with the torch, check his posts here and on youtube.

Couple of ways to go about it. You can point the torch flame at the well at a 45° angle so the heat mixes with colder ambient air. Doing it this way, the blue tip of the torch flame should bend into the VG well if done properly.

Alternatively, you could go straight vertical with the torch flame so that the blue flame tip is inside the VG well. This will be a faster extraction than above for obvious reasons, less colder air. Doing it this way will inevitably lead to hotspots so make sure the vertical flame is rotataing, almost like your stirring a magical cauldron with fire :brow:

I use the torch pointing vertically down through the ceramic dish. I use a flame at about an inch or maybe an inch and a quarter in total length.

I do rotate the location of the torch throughout the hit similarly to the way I do with my lotus.. In a spiral shape. It only takes 5 to 10 seconds to get a satisfying hit with this method

thanks, but the light never actually touches the ceramic dish, right?

In my experience not only the light doesn't touch the ceramic but also the blue part stays above the ss intake. I use an angle and little circles like @Obsessed 2 with very good results in less than 10 sec. One must have in mind that VG doesn't recommend torches because you can combust pretty fast but if you master it its a game changer.

I do not touch the ceramic disc. The tip of the flame sometimes enters the chamber but I don't let it get that far in.

The company specifically recommends not touching the flame to ceramic. But a user above says they do it though so it looks as if it does work that way.

I also looked for videos when I decided to try this and couldn't find any torch videos and was surprised or I suck at looking. I decided to just experiment and what I described has been working for me the last couple of weeks.
