Volcano Hybrid

but vaping is for taste,

Not to me....vaping is for effects for me while good taste just makes it more palatable.

And for night time, pain and sedation, session the Volcano works wonderfully (note, I run it full up at 446F and pull completely opaque bags).

To me, while the Volcano doesn't give up great taste, neither does it provide any objectionable taste.

That's what makes bag vapes so different from everything else - balloon vapor homogenizes the flavor so it's not such a linear degradation.

True, dat'.

To me, the Volcano's con is efficiency...it works best with a pretty good load of herb. Yes, the LP, reduced chamber/DC crowd will say "nay" and have a point. I just never found them to be as effective as the native OG bowl.

But, if one wants to consume a lot of cannabinoids in a short period of time for medication, the 'cano run on high temp really delivers, IMO>

Cheers

A very dear friend of mine lives in Mexico - where herb is cheap and plentiful, though not very resinous! He owned the Volcano long before he moved there, but he always tells me it's even better down there - having sampled myself I can say the huge bowl allows thick condensed milk bags with herb of absolutely any quality, and for that, the Volcano is genius!

And who am I kidding? There was a period where I was so broke I was vaping straight trim out of my solid valve - right before the concentrate boom, when growers were happy to give it away because most people didn't really have a use for it, and they didn't wanna get caught with any of it! Sometimes there was a ton of popcorn nugs in the trim!

It's these newfangled $65-before-the-30%-tax CA recreational 8ths on the other hand, that aren't quite as Volcano friendly! :D

thx for the impressions, sounds great. i am also an EQ user but it doesn´t get me really medicated anymore, i think i am too used to it by now.

i also own a Mighty for portability but frankly don´t use it so much. looking really forward to the Hybrid.

was shipped today, so i should receive it this week. i´ve already sold my Plenty and hope that the Volcano will be my new main daily driver.

How is the device when using the tube? i think i want to use the tube more than the bags...

The Hybrid is very fun to use, and again, the level of extraction is extremely high. My loads are always dark brown. With my digit it was always very light green, and I would have to debate with @Baron23 about its efficiency, a few times lol
I think about it all day while I’m at work... and can’t wait to sit on my couch and take a few puffs. The whip is plentiful, you can get a lot of hits with it and the xtraction level is just the same as the bags. The bluetooth is just great. I just started using the workflows and its fantastic, you just sit there will it pumps different temperatures into the bag, so it’s always milky! Heat up is so damn fast it’s ready when I am done loading A bowl. This thing really gets me medicated, quick and efficiently

I’m in LA and have never payed that, always paying $150 a zip for top shelf- private reserve. I couldn’t man up enough to pay nearly $80 for an eight. But on the other hand it’s tested for toxins and potency.

I’m still so on the fence about getting the hybrid since I own the classic.

What I don’t understand is people thinking any of the V series as not being efficient. It used to use a Q and when I got the Classic I out Abv in from the Q and was able to get vapor - so it is definitely more efficient. I’ve found a sweet spot when filling the V’s chamber. If it’s just covering the screen, I don’t get many bags, and when it’s really full I feel I don’t get full efficiency.

The right amount for me is about .5 or .6 g. With finely ground, I can get a nice 4-5 bags over a 2 night period of solo. (I remake my EZ with new bags that are a little smaller than factory).

I have someone I may be able to sell my classic to for around $250 but that still makes the hybrid a $300 investment.

Wish I could try one in the NYC area.

I get that, but with $700 you can buy at least TWO vaporizers that give amazing effects. Some vapes produce stronger effects/vapor than this thing--and still at half the cost or less. Anyone say EVO (let alone when on sale). Or the Plenty. Or Flowerpot. Or even (like a half dozen) Vapcaps...

I mean the price is just far too high the more I think about it.

The design is basically the same as what they've been selling for well over a decade. They didnt even change the name or the look more than on the margins. The benefit of quicker heatup appears to come at a sacrifice of flavor, according to some at least.

Add to that very little ability to solo (let alone micro) dose (without affecting performance)...

Just saying...:hmm::shrug::2c:

If you love the Volcano, I feel like this is a huge quality of life improvement. I'm justifying the purchase to myself in a few ways -

I am much more likely to use volcano over a bong now (in fact never yet) because of the crazy good heat up times and convenience of the whip. Before using Digit was a bit of a mission, and I would just edible or bong.

Using the dosing capsules and work flows, I'm able to fine tune each bag with consistant loads. I find small temprature rises mid bag, increase the bag awesomeness. I am better able to gouge my use and when to top up supply. Dosing capsules also decrease the overally maintanence required.

Much easier to move around the house for guests / gaming time.

With the above improvements, I am completely 100% on vaping and avb edibles.

Hopefully I will make the money back over the 10 years this volcano will last.

For the record, I wouldn't pay $700 for this either; myself and a lot of others in this thread got it for 20% off, and I even got $50 worth of store credit towards something else for the purchase.

Some other thoughts I've had after about a week of use:

Ease of use: It's really starting to irritate me that the Volcano doesn't have a better loading system. This thing NEEDS a filling aid. I'm always spilling herb everywhere, unlike the Mighty which is just genius. I'ma look around for some 3P parts. (If I'm missing something discreetly obvious plz let me know.)

Pump: Yeah, it sounds like a "thunk" inside the Volcano. They gotta work on that.

Tube: Still awesome. :D I put the Volcano on a large book on my bed and laid back and inhaled. Temps past 365 definitely feel hot in the back of your throat, so I keep a waterbottle around to keep my throat wet.

Hybrid vs Digit:

filling chamber: TBH I like the look of the new filling chamber over the old one, and because the filling chamber has a larger base it's easier to grab. BUT, I am never quite sure if I have twisted the filling chamber on enough, the manual DOES say something like "keep turning until you can't" (maybe I misinterpreted) but common sense says otherwise ...so I'm not sure how much wear I'm putting on it. The Digit, I always felt confident that when I put the chamber on there it was on and that was easy.

flavor: because the Hybrid heats by conduction heating (& convection), the flavor is definitely gonna go faster if you're using the tube because the herb is gonna be cooking on there even when you're not drawing, and then the more you vape it the more quickly it'll dry out. Have yet to compare Hybrid bags vs Digit (convection only) bags when it comes to how long the flavor lasts. You know what would be awesome, is the option to turn the conduction heating off for a "Classic" mode.

durability: edited to say oh yeah the detachable power cord, YAY

Got mine in last Friday from Cream City with the discount plus they threw in a package of extra brushes. My weekend was pretty blurry. So was Monday. And today.

I wasn't expecting a single bag would hit me that hard with the reducer. Tried a superbag multiple times and it's good but I'd rather not continually vape above 400. I've just been doing a full pump of 395 and still feel the need to keep some CBD flower around just in case of green eye. In short, this works and it can be a little scary if you've got above average herb.

I'm finding it really easy to empty and clean. AVB usually falls out of the bowl without any poking or smashing.

Hey I was wondering do Storz and Bickel actually claim that this device has hybrid heating? On the official website I can only see the "Hybrid" name being referenced to the bag and tube options and nothing regarding hybrid heating like they claim on the Mighty/Crafty and Plenty.

On Vaposhop website it is listed as full convection, maybe I am missing something? :hmm:
