I asked Dan for an invoice for the other heater module, some extra stems, wood capsules, and a bunch of extra basket screens...so I'll have all I need to last me a while when my Nomad arrives.

Paid it, and now all I need is 3-4 new 18650 batteries (the LG's and Sony's I currently have haven't been used much in the last 2-4 years, so they can't be in good shape at all) and a Pelican case for everything, and I will be all set for my New Nomad's migration to it's new home.

Getting excited!

Any current lucky Nomad owners have suggestions for what size pelican I should get?

I posted a pic a few pages back but I use the 1120 if u have more stuff 1150 might be better as I use a few of those for other vapes...depends on preference of course but those both work well for me! Good luck!

They’re actually talking about the “stem collar” that the stem goes into. He can carve those differently as an extra option, but I think he’s only offered it to people who specifically requested it like I did.

I don’t think Dan has shown us any custom stems yet, although I have asked about that too... :razz:

So I’ve been thinking a little about Nomad sleeves other than one of the gorgeous papers, although I’ll probably wind up choosing one of the Yuzen papers. But since we’ve got a little time as batch three wraps and they begin their journeys homeward, I thought I might as well share my thoughts on what a custom sleeve might look like. They’re based mainly on Dan’s sci-fi posts in the first fifty pages or so; I don’t know why anyone here might be interested but this is always my process to kinda get my head in the right space and get the ol’ creative juices flowing at the beginning of a project to help me get started. It’s helpful to me for brainstorming but I’m certainly not saying there’s anything of value here for anyone else but here it is anyway.

Custom Sleeve Thoughts
  • 大麻 Taima - the kanji for cannabis translates as “big hemp” The first character is tai meaning “big”+second character, cannabis, is expressed by an ideogram character, adapted from Chinese and pronounced “asa”. But this character is read “ma” in Chinese & represents two hemp plants hanging upside down from the rafters of a drying shed (how cool!) Taima- So if you combine the character for “big” with the character for hemp, you get “big hemp” or cannabis sativa. It’s the “official” word for the plant used in the Japanese law act that prohibits it’s cultivation and possession.
  • 麻の葉 asa-no-ha- based on regular hexagons, the Asanoha pattern is a geometric motif which resembles a hemp leaf. This traditional design is used not only in architecture but also in fashion and graphic design. It has six identical diamonds arranged around a central point. Although used throughout ancient Asia, only in Japan was it said to resemble the hemp plant. I typically wouldn’t want the ubiquitous “pot leaf” on my stuff but perhaps this is promising as it’s a more subtle design? Might be useful as a washed out background with Taima & other kanji (or elements of kanji) you know/like painted over it?
The Nomad is ancient technology from the first Digital Age and was based on even older technology, known as “analogue”. Alongside their intricate design and construction, the quality of materials and the fact that each component was produced by one person meant that each Nomad was considered precious and highly desirable among the few people who were aware of the existence of such a device.

Much about its creator has been lost to time unfortunately, we don’t know his identity beyond a strange stylised character he employed as his “trademark” on all his creations. Even then, what this character means or what it represents cannot be agreed upon by anthropologists who have studied it. According to cultural historians, he was known as a rebel for the Plant Resistance and widely recognised genius craftsman who lived in the forest wilderness in what is now called the Forbidden Zone, in the era before the Great Meltdown.
  • Maybe the sleeve’s background resembles a newspaper or magazine page full of random advertisements? Or maybe it’s part of an old recycled cover from a future book or repair manual for an obsolete futuristic device, vehicle or other imaginary technology? Is the superimposed kanji just some absentminded doodling by a forgotten owner or maybe a more purposeful & stylised graffiti in paint/ink as a personal statement/manifesto by its original creator?
  • Maybe upon closer inspection, the sleeve’s background is actually a stylised macro painting of trichomes, from long ago by the Nomad’s creator. On top of this faded artwork, there’s bold kanji inked by yet another of its previous owners.
Yet Another Dystopian Thought:
  • Today, living trees are a rare sight in nature and most species became extinct sometime in the 21st century. As a result wood, along with many natural materials, hasn’t been used as a material for several generations now. Consequently any non-synthetic object is considered valuable and a wooden device featuring antique analog technology, like the Nomad, is considered a priceless heirloom recalling an age of abundant resources, freedom and prosperity that many people have never seen and simply can’t fathom so they’re dismissed as tales of fantasy for children.

*pulls out lawnchair* Aw man, I'm super late to the party, saw the prototypes for the Nomad on reddit about 2 years ago and thought they looked beautiful but totally forgot about it since it was still in the prototype phase :doh: Didn't want to jump the gun and commit back then due to trauma on other waitlists... Wasn't too hurt originally because I figured it would be a form over function vape but after reading about 100 pages on this thread (with a bad case of VAS) I've been thoroughly convinced that I made a huge mistake by not jumping in early because apparently the Nomad is a beast :bang: but better late to the party then never! Just got my official waitlist email and I am now a proud member of the being patient club!

It's great that the Nomad is a beast but even if it weren't I'd have to have one because it's a piece of art. Like you, however, I didn't ask Dan to add my name to his list until way too late. I still haven't been assigned to a batch but I don't care when because it will be worth the wait.

I enquired & Dan sent me the email.
I emailed Dan the options I wanted.
Dan sent the invoice & I paid in full.
Two weeks later, everything arrived.
Been getting to know this beautiful beast ever since. I freakin’ love this thing!*






* Don’t really have a nomad yet; still in the same boat as most people here. Just stirring the pot. :leaf: So to speak... sorry.
