Mmmm, the Japanese. ;) Love their stuff. Think it's wierd, but love it. One of the few places I would go out of my way to visit.

But, they don't have the market on wierd cornered. Here is one from India.

We got a real kick outta that baby poster. Too bad it was faked. BUt the funny thing is, my Aunt used to mix Milk with Pepsi and that's what went in the baby bottle for my cousins. So I thought the poster was real. Wonder where she got the idea? This was the early '60s.

Researchers claim that human social functions are hardwired around the number 150. Looking at primates scientists realized that their social groups are larger if the monkeys neocortex is larger. By computing research done on 38 groups of monkeys Professor Dunbar estimated the humans ability for social connections tops at around 150. That means we can mentally manage approximately 150 relations. Any time we are in a situation where we have to deal with more people than 150 we tend to be less and less efficient. For example, if you were to plan a party for 150 people you could do it, easily remembering everyone and knowing who they would like to sit next to or who they would dislike. However, if you have to plan a party for 300 or 500 people you will most likely forget a lot of names and get confused about where Bob or Jane should sit.

There are several other examples which prove that after any community reaches more than 150 members, people stop caring about each other. For example, crime becomes a serious problem once a town grows above 150 households. Throughout history, army units were almost always composed of 150 soldiers as this seems to allow for more control and a closer knit group. I didnt know where else to post this. But I just drank a shots worth of my wandhashwash. aka wandhash fire water. aka the ethyl (drinkable stuff) that you use to soak your vape parts in. Ugh, it tasted like total ass as I used the jar that a buddy of mine gave me with pickled jalapenos. I thought I had washed it thoroughly but somehow the everclear seemed to bring out those essences. Very nasty to shoot (borderline bad idea - almost puked) Vapor resin (aka assy burned flavor) combined with the jalapeno/garlic/grain alcohol = ...

Now Im into the buzzedness. Although I think swampwater is a much more paletteable alternative. Wandhash will be made with the intent to smoke from now on. (Even though the drinkability effect is most enjoyable... Damn Im stupidly rambling. Awesome.

HappyCamper are you serious? What is Facebook really? "We will no longer search for (companies / products)... it will find us..." Scary to me. Makes me want to run and hide.

For example, earlier this week I listened into some tweets about people generally talking about looking for the service i provide in the area i am in. (they were not my followers and i was not theirs either) I found them on twitter and contacted them via twitter.....(This is still new to me and i am learning how to use it) but these types of leads are free.

Now they are following me! Although on this occasion no work has come about from this specific person I contacted (yet), but my company name will be in their head, and they will keep getting reminded of me as my follower..... and they have 850+ followers themselves! Free marketing.

Thats just one example, and thats not really even an example using the 'word of mouth' part of it, which is the most sucessful part of social networking imo.

Personally I cannot stand facebook, I can't stand the company Apple, I hate social networking sites. I spend far too much time on the internet myself. I find it addictive and it can bring out sides in me that I don't like or didn't know exist. (even though i am on internet a lot, i have never got into facebook personally)

But for the younger generation, social websites (not just facebook) this is what (all?) they know. I don't think it's just going to go away, and it will be an important part of many successful business models in the future.

The best part is it is FREE!


Also, I've not even talked about the recruitment side of it. Finding staff may not be that difficult anymore when you can instantly message thousands and thousands of people with one click of a button, and then all the people that they can tell that are not even connected to you directly.

IMO it's a very powerful and potent tool.

God I'm trashed, got to stop editing!! :ko: (I make a strong point never to use this 'networking tool' when I am trashed, i only ever do it sober)

In one way this forum is an example of how it can work. Due to the social medium of the regular posters here, I bought your purpledays largely based on comments from people on this forum, word of mouth. This was word of mouth from strangers, so I debated and read, and reread the threads, and checked carefully before I made the purchase. If I had actually known someone, I probably wouldn't have even hesitated. But even word of mouth from strangers did still work, as it works for many people who have come to this forum.

It's just social mediums like facebook are already much bigger, and don't contain people you would consider as strangers like on a forum. Or maybe it's perception, there are certainly some people on my facebook I would not say that I actually really know, however it seems more of a sure thing than a forum. (until you get to know the forum and the people who post as they are all strangers, but it takes time, AND forums are moderated, so what you see might not be the whole story).

However I don't agree with that part in the video about emails becoming passe, for me still my email list is a really powerful selling and marketing tool. For the people who don't take the offer I am sending them, it still reminds them I exist. Great marketing. Again it's very cheap. I personally use Mailchimp, constant contact is great as well. Will be interesting to see how it develops as generation Y and Z grow up.

Sign Of The Times: Shitterton Hits Back

A group of residents in Dorset have taken action against souvenir hunters who keep taking their village sign. They have chipped in 20 each to buy a chunk of Purbeck stone and had the name Shitterton engraved on it.

As the stone weighs well over a ton they are confident it will make future pranksters think twice before attempting to remove it.

Ian Ventham, chairman of the parish council, said: "Every two or three years somebody comes along and nicks our sign because, clearly, Shitterton is amusing.
