Volcano Hybrid

This video made me order a Hybrid.

I didn't want to, I've held onto my Classic for the last 15 years. Comparing the quality and quantity of vapor you can tell the Hybrid is getting a better extraction. Increased flavor and potency from the device I already love was convincing, but when we got to workflow profiles I was sold.

If anyone is on the fence, I bought mine for 20% off from CreamCityVapes with the code "CELERITY". I can't imagine it will be cheaper than that any time soon. I almost feel like they screwed up with having this code work at all.

Dude..., you are my hero! Thanks to you, I purchased a Volcano Hybrid for $559.20 total! No tax and free delivery! Like you, I thought the code was a mistake and the order would be cancelled but it shipped today! $559.20 is a pill a hell of a lot easier to swallow than $699+tax. I am happy to say the least. I will dedicate my first bag/whip to you sir!

Mine shipped today also. Before I ordered I did contact "the voice" at CCV. Selling my Digital that has less then 1 hour of on time on it in 2 years.

I also ordered it through CCV. I think I watched Troy's video 6 times and it convinced me. It's my first desktop. I also ordered an Obsidian through Magma. It should be arriving on Thursday. It's still a lot of money regardless, but seems like a great investment.

I boarded the hybrid train as well. First vape I ever tried was a classic back in '99. Thought it was cool to get high with a balloon and also thought it was stupid to pay $750 just to smoke dope. Decided vaping was dumb.

I know better now.

"Oh, my fuckin' ballz!"

It's just money right? Time for me to have a volcano of my own and this new one looks like a beastly upgrade to the classic/digit. Can't wait.

Well, it's here and the review is mixed.

Flavor - The flavor is certainly better off my Hybrid than Classic. That being said, running the multiple temp extraction workflow does mask flavors that would otherwise be front and center in a one temp extraction. I need to experiment but I was disappointed with how one of my favorite and most flavorful strains tasted with the workflow extraction.

Extraction - Hybrid wins hands down. I need to run more same temp, same weight side by side runs but the abv from the hybrid is noticeably darker and the vapor thicker in the runs I've done.

Okay now for the bad. The Hybrid is just fucking hard to use. They changed the app so it requires location access from your phone (something about how Bluetooth works in android.) I really don't want to broadcast my physical location every time I run this fucking thing! I had tons of trouble with the app, deleting workflows, force closing, and freezing up. I had to uninstall, reinstall, repair, and RECREATE THE WORKFLOW every time this happened.

Also, the process for putting a workflow together is absolutely terrible. I have to select the action then physically scroll through a numerical selection wheel to get my value. If I could just click a blank box and enter the number it would be 10x faster to program. That being said why the fuck do I need to keep using my cell phone at all? I wish they just had a fucking touch screen onboard the volcano, it's large enough! I also wish I could program my workflows on my PC and just upload the profiles to the device and scroll through my established options like custom e-cig software. Then I don't need anything but the volcano when I'm just trying to use the device. I could have all my programs etc ready to go and not have to fuck with repairing, app crashes, etc.

I also just miss my physical analog dial for control. Touch screens take far longer to get the same input a good dial turn gives. They should have a physical dial front and center and just have it translate the input into digital so I don't have to hold my finger on a button, with no physical response, for 30 seconds to get to my next temp.

All in all, what the fuck? A lot of improvement in extraction but we have gone so far backward in ease of use does it make up for it?

/Edit I forgot that it also just messed up when running a workflow and skipped straight to the highest temp in the sequence. Only once out of a few dozen bowls but if I was in the other room I wouldn't have noticed. I wont be running it from the other room any time soon.

I'm glad it wasn't just me having issues with the Bluetooth. And the lack of accessibility for the options only through the app is mind blowing on a $700 device.

See where they overthink it is 1 degree temperature increments aren't necessary.
5 degree steps makes for much faster navigation and you don't miss out on anything.... unless the vapor at 369 is just THAT much better than 370

I suggested this feature to Max Vapor and they rolled it out in a bluetooth update, it's now one of my favorite features on my e-nail controller, maybe S&B could do the same via an app update?

For what its worth... the crafty app ALWAYS SUCKED FOR ME on android.
Still does.

Seems like Storz (like sooo many others), put a lot more focus into the ios app.

Vape Critic streamed with his Hybrid and it was DEAD OUT OF THE BOX :(
iOS app is crappy as well. I have both Android and iOS in use with Crafty and they both have connection issues. They now removed the Crafty-only app and the Volcano+Crafty one has more issues than ever. Like you don't even know if your vape is charging or not while connected.
Lol what a bummer for vape critic.
I think I like more and more the big retro buttons on my Digit.

I didn't want to draw the direct comparison, but the Max Vapor is the device I have been comparing the Hybrid against in terms of software and function. Too bad the Hybrid falls short. :\

5 - 10 degree jumps when holding the input and 1 degree jumps on single presses? Even a change like that would help for function.

There needs to be a new hybrid “classic” with just a knob and no Bluetooth but with the other enhancements.

I could not agree more. Who the fuck did they have doing product testing, no one put this idea out?

I think I’m gonna start saving some money to buy this beast until the end of the year, but first I’d like you guys to help me out with some questions, please:

1) In my case, I will mostly use it by myself and I’d guess one bag would be enough for me. Do you guys think it will it be wasteful, since it’s just one bag or you think it can handle small quantities greatly too?

2) I will mostly use with dry herb, but I’d also like to be able to use hash occasionally. I know the Volcano is mostly about dry herb, but is it too bad with hash?

Thanks.

Define your: one bag is enough.
Does it mean you are a light user?
I am at times, at times I’m not.
But if I use a Volcano with easy valve, and I use it alone as well, I have only XL bags.
Those are only ones I buy. Last small bag I got was the new easy valve bag with replaceable bag. I still have to use it once.
I also have a solid valve with lots of bag rolls it still didn’t bother with it after getting the hell out of the single bag included. If I would, I’d go with the same length of an XL bag: I prefer heating my weed only once instead of having 3 bags with the same load. If you can handle a full session on a portable vape you will like a few bags to fully extract your load. If you only have a few hits even on a portable a single bag may be enough.

@justcametomind , it just came to my mind that you offered a good illustration of App control. Granted, after connectivity and other bugs are ironed out

One XL bag fill could be a customized workflow. Pump stops when workflow requests it. No more bag baby monitoring, stressing over turning off Air button before overfill

I know the app is buggy in this first release. But I have a more forgiving 'App half-bugfree' attitude, rather than 'App half buggy'

..you can purchase a filling chamber reducer..performance is identical, and your consumption is less...enhances everything (imo).

I would have been happy with the option to pick the reducer or the full size. Just like they used to offer with a choice between the Solid Valve or the Easy Valve.

Hybrid is in my hands, what a beauty she is. Works very well, my abv is very dark brown. It was very green and light with my classic even at high temps. I can’t believe how much faster it is, instead of 5 bags, now its 3-4. The whip is very nice, I can’t believe Troy didint even use it in his video? I got massive rips, very thick clouds. Bags are nice and thick, much smoother and tastier than Classic. I can’t connect to the Bluetooth app, any tips??
