Carta by Focus V

I thought the point of being a paying beta tester was that it did entitle you to every new thing they released for the carta including new cartas?

From a business perspective, when is enough (of freebies) enough? It can't go on forever as the point of business is to make a profit AND to stay in business.

FocusV gave these testers the 1st production release AND the Magna Carta, not to mention the improved atomizer, the herb atomizer & repair kit. And the beta testers will prob. get the next atomizer offering & a couple of new buckets designs. As such, I think FocusV has gone above & beyond in their generosity.

Getting the magna carta was not DEFAULT for beta people. You needed to provide the Serial or follow up with them yourself. I emailed them just to get on the list for a holy white version, which is all beta people are being offered at this point. But I'm super happy with that, I have the beta, V2 and will have the HW soon. They have done what they promised and I continue to promote them and the device since I use it heavily, daily.

And your point? Providing your serial # seems fair to me, & I assume that the testers were from FC, Reddit & VLF so, naturally, they are gonna be in the loop following the thread(s) to know to apply for the MC - unless, of course, they are incapacitated or incarcerated.

Many people missed or weren't even aware of the serial thing for the Magna Carta or that we could get one. I just MADE the deadline and was still missed. I'm neither incapacitated or incarcerated I just don't follow any ig. ...

Yeah, I almost missed the deadline, too.
If you were not watching all of their live vid's on IG, it was easy to miss the info for the MC's.
I only found out about it 3 days before it was ending and got my engraving request in. And, ended up lucky enough to receive it a few days ago.

I'm interested in getting some 3mm pearls to try in the Carta. Has anybody used the Mini Riptide Bubble Cap by GordoScientific? I know it fits the Puffco Peak but didn't want to assume it would work correctly in the Carta. Also, any other recommended carb caps that will get a pearl to spin a little in the Carta, it doesn't have to make it go crazy but I want the pearl to move easily?

Thanks

I did a comparison between the 3mm g43 boro pearls ($9 for 225), Rubypearlco's 3&4mm Opal ($5 & $9 each) and also from RPC 3mm Ruby ($2 each when buying five but every person i've talked to has gotten ten and sometimes a pearl grabber) and 4mm SiC pearls from Ebay (2 for $20) and VRSmokeshop has Fadespace ones (when in stock) for $17 each which seems outrageous but maybe they are that much better, not for me to say.

The 3mm opal make a lvl 1 dab perfect, it just adds that extra vapor on top of the great flavor and I felt like it is the perfect in that level 1 slot and stopped messing with it since I figure it will be my go-to if my phone dies or I cant use the app for whatever reason. The 4mm seem to give smaller dabs a slightly burnt taste but devours big dabs.

the Ruby 3mm for sure need a pre-heat cycle on level 1 (or lower if using the app) before they become fully effective or else they seem to rob more heat than spreading but after that are great and add some to the flavor which I can really only notice a difference with, other than the SiC but im not the best judge of taste so it must be pretty decent effects. They do best with average sized dabs but can handle larger but smaller definitely seems to cook it into a single spot and im guessing because I just havent dialed it in and am going in too hot on the preheat/regular heat cycle.

The 4mm SiC are the best for larger dabs and would be the best of them all if they came in 3mm but the smallest size I could find was 4mm. The SiC seem to be so much more forgiving when it comes to charring & burnt flavor with any sized dabs in the insert cause unless you kind of play with the stock carb cap and slightly tilt the device while in use there's not too much that can be done to move them without a spinner or directional and they can get caked into one spot kind of easily. Not so much the SiC from what I noticed but terp pearls in general in the Carta.

The 4mm's are good with sauces/diamonds concentrates and larger than average dabs but that extra 1mm makes them miss the corners that 3mm's would get into. And for whatever reason with Shatters, Crumbles & Budders it seems to be less effective with 4mm unless using a decent amount and im not even going to take a stab at why or how or if it's just user error on my behalf lol.

Long story short though it's hard to go wrong with Buds G43 225x 3mm Boro pearls for $9 + s&h; My only gripe about the boro pearls is that they dont seem to have much effect until next thing you know BAM! Your 536°F terpy dab starts to kick out vapor like it was 572-590 (this is all out of Ti) with that slightly burnt taste and feels like you have less control over the flavor/vapor. But again that could be user error but preheating doesnt help this issue and they probably dont need it and the only ones that I do every time are the Ruby.

As for the Gordo mini from the picture I had a vender take for me it looks like it's just too big for the cap and I would think cause a lot of splash but im not sure but pushing it around manually with a bubble cap is definitely doable and works but as to which cap is the best I cant answer that cause all the ones I have used cause spillover but im honestly liking the stock cap cause it for sure doesnt suck oil into the slits unless your pulling too hard and if you spin it while on top and kind of move it around it does move the pearl....slightly, and it requires some technique to not get it boiled onto one spot but it does work with some of that tilt action lol.

All in all the results are probably going to differ from person to person on which is going to be the best (I think a 3mm SiC would be perfect but couldn't find any not in bulk) terp pearl option for them based on their caps and draw strength and style of multiple inhales thru a sesh or one long pull, Etc. but they're so effecient and cheap that it doesnt hurt to play around with the different types in my opinion.

Hope this helps and sorry for the long ass post.

They def have given away a lot of stuff, however that was the point of being a full paying beta tester. Most companies send out beta units for free and/or a deposit thats returned after testing. It also doesnt seem like a very smooth process as it seems most of the beta testers have to bug focusv to get what they were promised.

I just got the rubypearlco ruby 3mm beads also. I only ordered a single one for $2.85 but they sent me 3 of them. They are sooooo much smaller than i thought i feel like theyre 1mm pearls. Be careful if you get them i tried taking the dish out to clean thoroughly and accidentally dropped it and lost the pearl somewhere in my carpet.

Anyway, i tried throwing 1 in the quartz dish. I didnt notice any real difference with vapor between using the pearl and using nothing. I actually feel like vapor was a little weaker. Maybe its robbing some of the heat like you mentioned and requires a preheat? Gonna try that but i feel like the extra preheat and robbing battery life doesnt make up for a slight increase in vapor production.

Does The opal pearl works great on initial heating without a preheat maybe thats what i should have got.

That guy is super generous with his ruby products, super cool of him.

But it took me getting the G43 beads to understand that the ruby really do need some form of preheating. I let it stew for about 20-30 seconds on 500 average but as low as 450 depending on the size of the dab. As for battery life you're right in that it might not be worth it unless you're all about getting that last drop of good oil or starting off on stock level 3 which was the only temp that didnt need a preheat but it also charred it so bad onto the Ti surface that it took those large tweezers DDave sells to pull it out and the oil around it was that hard type of goop lol.

If it weren't for the price of the Opal and 3mm pearls being so easy to lose, they would be my first recommendation and they seem to be the best pearl for low temperatures.

Im a bit skeptical to recommend the 4mm Opals since for $1 more you can buy the same sized SiC ones from EBay and Im not sure if the extra $4 for 1mm is that big of a change from the 3mm but maybe there's a use for them I just havent found yet but it has been easier for me to hand people the Carta with the opal 3mm pearl and not have to break out the app or worry about them getting too harsh of a dab.

I think they're definitely worth giving a shot but I have to say bud's g43 ones are also amazing because losing one doesnt warrant an inch by inch search of the area if dropped lol.

Sorry, guys, I misunderstood. I wasn't thinking the engraving, but thought from mc's post that FV was asking for the serial # of your units in order to receive the MC edition. I understand that you would had to have been on IG to have learned about the engraving option, but surprised to hear that regardless of this engraving that FV would expect you to contact them to receive an unengraved version since they have the beta-tester names. Ideally, FV should have sent a form letter pm or email to the bts or at the very least posted here on FC & any other applicable forums.

i don't usually tune into the IG streams because I just don't have the time to spend watching Randall get high. So if he says 1 or 2 informative things, I miss it. I do think he should (cross)post customer-relevant info. on the forum(s) because IG streams are not a broad enough way to disseminate info.

I'm kind of late to the Carta game but a friend of mine (Who loves the Puffco) was telling me he switched to Carta and was showing me the app and I was sold. This is going to be my first dab rig (even though it's not really a dab rig). Between his rec and this thread, I decided to order a Carta rig from Dab Nation and I'm driving over to pick it up later today. He said the battery thing was a bit confusing. I guess they have batteries already loaded in the Carta but they have caps on them to keep the juice from being depleted. He thought his was broken at first before he popped the compartment open and saw the battery caps.

Don't be sorry about the long post, I know from experience it can happen. But I tend to ramble.

Thanks for the post, I really do appreciate the detailed post. You helped answer a few questions I was pondering about the different materials available for the terp pearls also. I'm definitely going to buy a few Ruby and Opal pearls from Rubypearlco. I actually already had his website open in a tab and I was already leaning towards getting the Opal and Ruby pearls from him.

After hearing about your experience with the SiC pearls I'll probably hold off until somebody has 3mm SiC pearls not in bulk. I'm really looking forward to getting the FocusV's SiC insert. I wonder if Rubypearlco could source some if we got kind of a group buy going?

Thanks again.

I was thinking the same thing with 3mm pearls in bulk cause I have no issue putting down the $100 for however many and we'll just split them evenly but im not too aware of the dangers of China SiC (if there are any) or what good quality vs bad quality SiC would look/feel/act like.

The guy who sells the 4mm SiC pearls on EBay said that the some of the biggest reasons that 4mm were made were to fit inside smaller Dnail/VROD style dishes and be able to spin faster than the 5mm's in refular sized dishes. I guess the 4mm work fine in the Peak so the Carta people who want them are the singular demand for 3mm SiC pearls it seems which is a bummer cause like @Mynameismud said the extra heat cycle may not be for everybody but the SiC for sure wouldn't need one. Also they're so easy to lose it's crazy so if you go with the Opals get a few. Maybe more if you have white carpeting no joke lol.

Glad I could help though man.

My personal recommendation would absolutely be to get a Carta. The problems you read about are the exception, not the rule. It's still a best-in-its-class device for less money than the competition, and made even better by app and accessory customization options.

As for a manual dab rig - to me, the appeal of something like this is partly never having to smell butane ever again. It's also great for social dabbers like me who want to take their stuff on the go with friends or out into the wilderness. Sure is a hell of a lot easier to toss your carta case into your backpack than your whole rig/torch/enail/whatever setup.

A semi-related anecdote: I took my Peak to Iceland last year. It was amazing to hike out to remote waterfalls where there was nobody else around for miles, and then whip out the Peak for a quick and easy dab. Unfortunately I got screwed once when I did all that climbing and hiking, only to get to my destination and find that the Peak battery had died. It doesn't have an auto-off function, so if you forget to turn it off, the battery inevitably drains. I was so dismayed being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no alternative to smoke.

Of course, that hasn't been an issue at all since I got my Carta. Not only does it shut off automatically after an idle period, but you can also swap dead batteries out for fresh ones. I'm going back to Iceland in a couple weeks with my Carta and some peace of mind that no matter how deep into the wilderness I trek, I can count on it to keep me high :D
Wow that sounds amazing. Btw it seems like you had a hell of an experience and trip even though it’s sucked to have that happen to your peak. I might have to reconsider then. Thank you once again

Also Mr.bonsai has his own quartz, etc for carta and peak and ZC glass as well, to my knowledge there are 4 independent but great add ons and attachments with both devices. I have the sic from fade2space for peak didn't exactly fit but worked, and the carta sic insert on preorder as well. When I get new ones I try them on my Instagram. Same name.

You can get the 6 month or year subscription for their atomizers, so not only do they all come with their 30 day warranty with the atomizers, but you also have the option to get one monthly so you do not need to worry about that. Just my opinion.
That’s good to know. I know not everyone isn’t experiencing these atomizer and base problems but do you think the manga carta has the kinks worked out?

Beta customers did not need to reach out to FocusV to get their Magna. That was just for the engraving. Anyone who didn't contact them should still be getting a white MC when FocusV receives them.

I'm new to this and have a puffco peak. What is these pearls ans Sic? Making and purpose?
Pearls are little beads people use for extra heat to spin around the oil inside the dish. People use them in regular quartz bangers and erigs. Theres different materials like ruby, sapphire, opal, quartz, SiC (silicon carbide)... Ruby and sapphire require a preheat before theyre effective i personally dont think its worth depleting the battery over. Im going to try the opal one next which does not require a preheat.

They also use these same materials for the dishes which have similar properties(requiring extra heating)

This is 100% false. I not only had to contact them myself, but I was told beta people were only being offered the holy whites if they didn't provide a personal serial in time for a magna carta and contact them. So if you don't have one by now, you aren't even on the list for the holy white, you will receive nothing. You need to email them and ask to be on the list for the holy whites.

yes exactly, agree on both your points. I would have loved a personal serial magna carta if only I had been asked via email :(

I have an email chain here that says otherwise. It shows me having to get myself on the list, with zero response about why I missed the magna carta. At least I am getting the holy white now that I contacted them, so I'm ok.

EDIT: You'd think the one person who's dry herb atomizer lit on fire would be on the list already :/
