The 19mm wide is perfect for the 25mm bangers (1mm clearance).

I expect 23.5mm would be perfect for the 30’m bangers ... I ordered one of these anyways as they do sound pretty sweet!

Main thing about the 3mm gap is I feel they will “bang around” more than ideal when q-tipping out after your dab. I even find this happens noticeably more with my sapphire insert that is about 18.5mm vs 19mm ... it was noticeable enough that it led me to measure the difference to see if it was all in my head ... it wasn’t :)

Glad to hear you got the Rubies coming in Shane! Some Ruby pearls would be nice too! I know I like to run a SiC pearl and 1 or 2 Ruby pearls now.

One thing to note about Ruby is that the heat retention is so hot that if you leave your banger on, any residual oils will slowly overtime creep up the banger walls and then back down to the underneath of the insert and then chaz on the bottom of the insert. Most of the time I remove my insert to clean it, it has more caked and burnt onto the bottom than the inside walls and floor. I typically clean my Ruby every week so its not ever that dirty, but consistent cleaning has lead me to notice this and the only way I have found to avoid this is to turn off my enail overnight and while I am at work so its never sitting hot for too long. When I do leave the banger on for those extended periods between use I find that removing the insert and wiping it down with a paper towel or even a q tip and q tipping the inside of the banger while the insert is out helps to avoid the chaz issue. A taller insert might help as well. I can't wait to see what others experiences are with more Ruby inserts out in the world.

With the inserts being 2.5-3mm thick, and 20mm tall, these things seem to be quite a bit more mass to them than comparable inserts. Should make the heat retention even more stellar!

Also, if anyone doesn't have one of the mood mats that Shane sells, you should seriously consider picking one (or two!) up. I love both of mine, and would immediately order another if one would go missing.

They're just such a wonderfully cushy, yet supportive, and non-slip surface to place your precious glass. Highly recommended!

Any plans for Ruby inserts that fit 25mm bangers? Also have you looked into Sic inserts? I personally prefer sic over ruby or sapphire for its durability and ease of cleaning. As far as taste goes I can’t tell much of a difference but I actually prefer sic to sapphire. I’ve only used a ruby insert once so I’ll reserve judgement there. The fact is for an insert that costs as much as these I would prefer a material that is not susceptible to thermal shock. I am afraid to buy a ruby insert because I know I’ll crack it lol. Anyways I still might try one if you get some for 25mm bangers. And I would forsure love to get a Sic insert from you instead of the other people selling them right now. Keep up the amazing work. Your web store is my favorite on the web. If I could afford it I would buy one of everything. A mood mat and a 25mm colored quartz pi cap are on my wish list as of now ;)

I had concerns over the ruby and thermal shock, but honestly, it's such a smooth hard surface, that just a dry q-tip to wipe out, even w/ rosin, and it comes almost completely clean (you can't tell by looking at it in the banger that it's not). I also take my insert out and wipe it down with an ISO wipe when dry (ruby/sic spheres as well), between sessions before turning stuff back on to heat up ... I'll usually do this every 1-3 sessions or so. My inserts still look like the day I bought them. I'm 100% sold on how wonderful ruby is ... that being said, if Shane had some highly polished SiC inserts, I'd be interested in that too :)

So, my 710coils.com quartz finally got dirty enough for me to clean (yes, I'm mostly flower and a 'trates light weight! haha).

So, I popped it in a bag of ISO and dropped that in my small ultrasonic cleaner along with a CU from a Mighty.

Now, Shane doesn't recommend ultrasonic cleaners because they can, theoretically, cause breakage at welds but I took the chance with my little low power unit and it was fine.

Everything came out sparking clean except for the brown band around the banger about 3/8" from the opaque bottom.

So, now its in Simple Green (concentrate) on a candle warmer which is what Shane recommends (yes, I'm teachable but it ain't easy! haha).

Cheers

I always get that stubborn ring around the banger, near the top of where the coil rests, even with SG soaks.

The SG gets everything except for that ring for me. I then just use a baking sofa paste to scrub the ring and it comes right off!

Not sure why I always get that ring, even with a SG soak. I'm not soaking on a candle warmer, but I often pour boiling water around the container, so it stays warm for an hour or so.

For me a combo of SG and baking soda works well. Clean in under 3 mins (not including the soak time, I do that overnight most often).

I didn't have a candle warmer so I put the banger, inserts, etc in a pyREX dish of SG and put the dish in a small pan of water on low to medium low on the stove for 4 hrs..then if anything is still stuck, I Scrub it with a little piece of Magic Eraser or even a piece of that green abrasive dish scrubby stuff. Hopefully that isn't too abrasive for quartz. It is a type of glass, right?

So I ordered some 25mm ruby inserts last night and should have them up in my shop next week. 30mm ruby inserts are due to ship by July 10th and should only take a few days to get here =)

Specs for the 25mm inserts:

19mm Outer diameter
16mm tall
2mm sides and base

I have specs for the version I will have made eventually. Just wanted to get something up for the people that prefer the 25mm over the 30mm =)

Hope everyone is having a great day

I used the green scrubby pad, i noticed scratches the second time i used it. Next time i might try the baking soda paste.

As far as the brown ring goes, q tipping with distilled water on the 2nd q tip has eliminated it for me.

And hey Shane, i see some news quartz pi colors just dropped . Any chance you are going to grab some? They are fuego!

Ok, as I said...I tried cleaning in bag of 99% ISO in an ultrasonic cleaner. Everything came off very nicely except the brown ring we have been talking about.

So, into concentrated Simple Green on a candle warmer. Six hours later, and taking a qtip to it, most of the ring came off but there was still a definite, complete ring still left.

In candle warmer for a total of at least 12 hours and that ring stain was still there:goon: haha

So, tried some toothpaste on a qtip and not effective.

Tried some Pearl Drops on a little electric tooth polisher and it came off immediately and this stuff is not coarse enough to scratch the quartz.

Crap has been sitting in my med cabinet for prob 20 years....knew I would have a use for it someday! haha

Oh no! I was cleaning my new banger and my husband was helping me because I recently broke my wrist. I couldn’t have cleaned it by myself with one hand. Long story short, it ended up on the floor in pieces.…

Needless to say, I was heartbroken because I’ve only had it for barely 2 weeks I think. not to mention, this is my favorite kind of pain meds post surgery.

So we ran to the local head shop and were able to Find one that pretty much fitS the axial coil. There was only one in the shop that was acceptable. I didn’t want to be completely out over the holiday so I bought this one until I can re-order from Shane.

I hadn’t t been able to dab all day so I hooked it all up and went for it. Turned it off and went downstairs. Hours later, I remembered something about separating the banger from the coil before it cools. Which I didn’t. So it doesn’t want to come off and I don’t want to force it. What now? Is it risky to use?

This has been a most lousy day.
