So I just purchased a splinter used and it arrived with the wood piece and glass piece separated so that i can see the coil. What is the proper way to re glue the glass? https://imgur.com/a/8soxbb8

Is adhesive used in RBT products and is it in the flow path?

Yes, Loctite® M-121HP™ Hysol® Medical Device Epoxy Adhesive (ISO 10993) is used to attach the rim of the heater glass to the wood. This is the coolest part of the heater glass and rarely does it reach over 150 degrees F which is well below the 300 F temperature limit of the this epoxy. The adhesive is not part of the primary flow path and has minimal exposed surfaces

Depending on the age and if you can prove the date of purchase this is normally covered under warranty.

Got me a nice 2nd hand Splinter in perfect working order & condition and so started experimenting a bit :science:

Just have a plain older iStick100 for a box mod at hand, which provides vw/vv mode only. Tested with wattage settings between 35-40w and managed to get reasonable clouds with a very slow draw, feathering the button, though it took quite a while and some stirring, to kill the load (mildly brown). Also, seems like you've to move quite a lot of air through that wide bowl, till you're done! :p

As I build Log Vapes myself for a hobby, I'm also more used to the small size of a Log stem's stainless steel tip (d=8mm) and the coffee brown AVB they yield, after getting 3-4 nice, fat hits :D

So... I decided to do a little mod to reduce the Splinter's bowl size/vapor path to a) reduce air volume passing over the heater (yielding shorter, fatter hits) and b) conserve some material :)

19/14mm inline glass adapter, wich happens to be of 19mm length (bloody perfect!)

14/19mm male stem, bit shortened at the top end with a bucket screen in the tapered gg joint.

Set to 40w (the tip of the 14mm gg joint carrying the load is ~7mm away from the debris screen, covering the heater); preheat 5-7secs; take 4-5 nice fat hits (maybe rotate stem once or twice), hitting the button while you draw... get nice, even coffee brown and very dead AVB :D

I have some and they are nice and firm. Fits 14mm perfectly.

You can also use a 1/2" pipe screen and form a cup. I wrap the screen around the rounded end of a pen to form the shape. You might have to crimp the sides using this method though.

I've had a go at converting @HerbieVonVapster 's TFR files for Arctic fox if anyone wants to try

They're a little on the cool side for my mods as I'm having to bump the temp up an extra 30C or so even with the hot one (cleared the resistance memory, read the resistance like a new atomizer and left unlocked) but I'm liking the temp control and rate of increase/decrease as you change temp with the 3 different TFR files.

Save the 8 lines as a CSV file and import via the import button in the coil material edit window
It will overwrite the selected material file when you click save so backup the material file you're going to replace first with a name you'll recognise if you want to revert back and select a material file you won't need for another atomizer if you use the mod for other devices too.

This is a very impressive effort! We all appreciate those on the vanguard.
I have zero idea what it all means, as all I use is a $40 mod with watts mode and cruise! It's been about 4 months now and I'm still blissfully ignorant.
I love the fact that there are so many different angles of approach to this vape.

Ack! Last night I went to pull the stem out of the base (gently rocking as always) and the glass receptacle piece came out with it. Looks like it was only glued at the very edge of rim. Area where glued is no where near air path. Maybe a good, odorless CA glue?

Yea there was only a very small amount of glue holding it together. Barely enough to go around the rim. I’m thinking of using something like jb weld and use a toothpick to carefully apply it.

JB Weld, when cured, is pretty non-reactive to heat and other chemicals so air should be a non-issue. ...and JB Weld is cheap (like me)! I might try that. Thanks!

Yea I used one rated for like 600F for my flowerpot base and it has held up fine. For now I have tiny bits of hot glue to buy me some time to think haha.

Thanks for doing this @Hippie! I've added the TCR value for each line segment to @HerbieVonVapster's files below (using the formula here) so you can see what TCRs you're using when you use these files. (I also added temperature in Celsius since that's needed by the formula.)

The TCR ranges are:

Hot: TCR 82-109
Splinter: TCR 79-100
Cool: TCR 52-150

All I did to convert them was open up @HerbieVonVapster 's FCSahre materials CSV files in Escribe and use the graph for reference to fill in the gaps for Arctic Fox as AF won't open or save the CSV file unless it has 7 pairs of numbers.

Are you guys seeing the same results as me? Good temp control and rate of change but having to set the temp hotter than you'd normally expect.

I've been out of the loop: so we have Herbie AF profiles for TC mods now? My V2 is my only a Splinter on a TC mod and I'm not inclined to fuck with it. Pretty cool if more affordable/available mods are benefitting from the FC brain trust now!

No, my files weren't for uploading to any mod, they were just FYI. I added the TCR values so people could see what TCRs are actually being used when they use @HerbieVonVapster's files.

Agreed, these have reasonable rates of change, but the TCR values were too low to accurately represent the temps I was getting, so I created and use a TFR file with a constant TCR value of 185 for each line segment:

You might ask, why bother using a TFR file if you're just using a constant TCR value? The reason is that TCR is the proportion (NOT the absolute) change in ohms for every additional degree Celsius. Because this is a log-linear relationship, using a constant TCR as the "slope" of the temperature/resistance relationship in different temperature ranges will actually produce a slightly curvy overall line when you view the whole temperature/resistance graph.

But of course your strategy of just setting the temp higher is a perfectly reasonable approach too, and has the benefit of preserving the relative (segment-to-segment) TCR changes in @HerbieVonVapster's files.

And in case anyone's interested: I got curious about where all these resistance measurements came from for TFR files and found Rob Ellard's web page. He "built a very accurate PID controlled hotplate and monitored resistance changes in various coils suspended in a bath of silicone oil," then created TFR files from the results. His 316L file is the most relevant to the Splinter:

I added the Celsius and TCR columns. So his TCRs range from 60 to 92.

I'm skeptical about the ohms measurement for temp 482, since that one measurement decreases one TCR to 60 and increases the next to 92, and it would be an unusual material that decreases its TCR, then increases it, then decreases it again in a relatively narrow temp range. So assuming that's an error, and that the first three and last two measurements are accurate, and interpolating those TCR values of 60 and 92, 316L stainless steel's TCR slowly drops from 89 to 70 across the full temperature range.

I thought 185 was a bit steep
In TCR mode I've been using 125 recently so I tried converting that in the same way

I realized there was only one kind of Custom Splinter left in stock at VGoodiez.com and with little hope of more being made by Ryan for the foreseeable future I deemed it necessary to have the pleasure of purchasing this gorgeous Bubinga four hole from VGoodiez.com and I quickly received it a few days ago. :)
The figuring of the Bubinga grain is amazing. Lots and lots of texture!

This was initially meant to chill out as my backup for my Custom Z but this vape instantly stole my heart and found a spot in my daily rotation.
This thing absolutely rips! I was not prepared for how interestingly beautiful this Bubinga is! This is the best looking wood in my collection to date!

Thanks for sharing and that's a nice looking vape. Really like my Splinter too and of course, Vgoodiez. I don't think I've ever had an issue with ordering from them and I've ordered too much. If anything, things tend to ship faster than I expect.

Been a little curious about 4 hole hi-flow. Can you compare it to your Z? TIA!

It is Lacewood actually. The box must have been mislabeled and wifey was the one who QC checked this for defects and didn't know the wood. Whatever the case I am glad @VoidOfCourse likes it!
