Discontinued Impcognito

In my experience, higher cold ohms = higher required TCR#

I believe one of my buddies settled at TCR200 but his cold ohms were like 0.22

I prefer around TCR180~ but my cold ohms are closer to 0.200

These values can also vary from mod to mod, and Imp to Imp I am sure. I'm not meaning to imply my settings are 100% great but they seem to be a decent enough starting point.

With my PID settings completely stock on the Cuboid Mini (I unfortunately forgot to check these before firing) I got a fucking WILD glow within my first hour with the Imp. Adjusting those PID values and literally not touching anything else fixed those issues
I'm currently enjoying my impcognito matched with an Aster. I haven't had enough time to figure out how to install AF but I did play around, albeit unsuccessfully, with TCR (with the M1, M2, M3 settings). Thought I had it nailed but I'm getting protection warnings. I suspect it's an unlocked cold ohms result bc I cannot, without the PC user interface, modify or lock down the ohms in TCR. Because of this I'm rocking power mode similarly to how I have my movkin disguiser paired with my iheat. Love running wattage in the iHeat but I really want to get the imp online with TCR. More research on my end is needed, then implementation.

General question for Aster users.... Was the PC interface absolutely necessary to lock ohms in TCR? If not, I'm suspecting my aster may be bunk...

Ah yeah I began with your PID values, and now from cold my resistance is .225 so I went back to default 185 M1 value, which seems a little too cool now? Close, but not getting full extraction at 420F, so I guess I should try lowering that value a bit and test some more... Ordering an AsterRT too, wish it used Tubo though!

I did have one instance, where my Aster RT randomly changed from .20 resistance to .22 - modifying the ohms and playing with the coils did not fix performance issues I was having as a result...

I just dropped my cold ohms back to .20 and locked them again, and now it's all good? :hmm:

I do not have the correct tool, and I'm thinking perhaps one of the screws came loose, but the resistance did not change at all on my Tubo mod... so I am not so sure.

The AsterRT can definitely be finnicky, but when it works good I notice no real performance difference between it and my Cuboid Mini.

I still much prefer the AsterRT with ArcticFox, rather than the stock firmware.

I also get the temp.protection message that will flash, but it's not really an issue in operation. It just "bounces" off your set temp, and will begin reheating if you keep the button depressed and the timer has not run out.

This is a wonderful reply to come back to. Thanks! Much appreciated!

Also, you can indeed lock the resistance without needing to hook up to a PC... I would worry if yours does not work the same.

Check the manual:

"Lock/Unlock resistance: In TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR(M1,M2,M3) mode, when the device is powered on, keep pressing the fire button and up button simultaneously for two seconds to lock or unlock atomizer “base resistance”.

The lock sign will appear when resistance is locked and “Ω” symbol will come back when unlocked.

Note: 1. Please lock the resistance when the coil is at room temperature so that the device can display the correct “base resistance”.

2. In resistance lock mode, when you remove the coil and then put it back, the device can maintain the same “base resistance” although the coil resistance may increase due to the rise of temperature. In resistance unlock mode, when you remove the coil and then put a coil back, the screen may display “New coil up same down” as the coil resistance may increase within certain range. If it is the same coil, press the down button and if it is a new coil, press the up button. But please unlock the resistance when you want to change an atomizer or a coil of different resistance.

3. When using a common coil or a coil whose resistance is above 1.5ohm in TC-Ni/TC-Ti/TC-SS/TCR(M1,M2,M3) mode by mistake, the device will automatically switch back to VW mode."

M1 value at 180 seems pretty decent so far... gonna let it ride a bit.

Ah! Found a grey AsterRT on AliExpress for under $15 in the end with a little coupon and free shipping. It'll take a month to arrive of course, but I've got the CuboidMini in the mean time, which will unfortunately make it tough to switch from using TuboFW to ArcticFox lol

Damn those look slick. I think I will pick one up whenever I get around to ordering my second deck. Nice find!

For a veneer type wood wrap they seem to hold up well. I've had a walnut wrap on my vtc mini for about 6 months now, it's the portable I travel with the most and it's the unit that's most likely to get tossed in my pocket. So far no scratches or chips, hard to complain for $10

Hey mate, I posted links to those wraps a while ago but never decided myself to give them a try. My main concern was: how hard are they to apply flawlessly? I've never been very lucky with stickers, alignments, bubbles and what not, if you know what I mean... :)

Oi! I know exactly what you mean. I was the guy who always had bubbles in his screen protector before ballistic glass was an option. I don’t posses the patience for such things.

This was much easier in comparison. The wood is about 0.75mm thick so it’s not like applying a flimsy sticker at all. Here’s a vid of an application on the Vtc mini

Received my Impcognito in the mail today. First impressions are it's way smaller and much nicer looking then I had anticipated, the wood grain is just beautiful. I first tried it out on a DNA 250 with @HerbieVonVapster profile to get a baseline for performance. 4 hits at 420f resulted in perfectly evenly roasted abv.

I then played around with it on an iStick Pico and Wismec P80. Decided the pico felt more pocketable and flashed it with the new arctic fox. 45mins of fooling around later and im VERY happy with performance.

Here's some pics:

How does performance stack up against the splinter z, splinter, or lil bud?

It's hard to compare, they are all really different beasts in their own way and I'm still getting to know the imp. So far I can say the cognito packs a really big punch in a really small package. I find the performance through water is very similar to my grasshopper. @ 410-420f I can cache a capsule in 2-3 lung busters. Flavour is great on low temps, the short wooden dosing stem is harsh but brilliantly small and portable.

The impossible to find VTwo Mini is my preferred mod, otherwise, I use the Aster RT pretty often.

The Cuboid Mini for around 15-25 dollars looks like a mod I really want, maybe not for all but it supports Tubo firmware and I don't really need more than 5 bowls at a time and maybe not even for the whole day.

Yeah CuboidMini is nice, but with the new ArcticFox I feel like the AsterRT will be better, though heavier with two internal batteries. Sinuous P80 is another popular one, plus the Reuleaux Gen3Dual too
