My Splinter and Z are pretty close, but the Splinter has a little freer air flow. Bigger heater in only 1/2" larger space it really is no surprise but as long as there is still plenty of flow I'm good. SplinterZ is still high flow compared to other vapes.

Heya, I have emailed you as well, but thanks for responding to some here.

Hope we can get this sorted! welcome.

Have you got a response yet? I’ve sent several emails and still haven’t got a response about when my Z will be fixed. I’m kind of surprised with the lack of customer service from RBT. Wish I could just get my money back at this point.

I did. she was actually pretty quick, too. You're sending to cyndi@?. Said it was in progress but nothing further, some post said something along the lines of some units arriving without any information- maybe that’s why? Keep me posted.

I got a response about getting me an update 2 days ago and she hasn’t responded again.

Hey all! I'm excited to join this thread! After a suggestion by @YaMon I did some research on these 510 vaporizers.. I was leaning towards the Splinter Z, then I saw a guy on reddit selling the full vape after only a couple of uses + DDave's ultimate cooling stem + 14mm WPA. It was definitely a sign of destiny, the vape gods were calling me to pull the trigger at a very discounted price!

I'll have in my hands a Splinter Z V2 (blackwood) with the aforementioned accessories. I plan on using it with my current mod (Geekvape Blade) which I use for e-juice vaping on a daily basis. It's an amazing vape overall, sadly it just has shitty TC performance, therefore I think I'll just practice in wattage mode.

This will be my first real on-demand convection vape, I currently own a Mighty (which I love) and I've had a Flowermate V5.0 PRO in the past and tried a PAX 3 and a Volcano.

I read all 79 pages of this thread (my head is spinning), and I'm excited to start my learning journey of this vape! I have some questions for you though..

Let's start from the first steps, how do you get the best results when packing the herb? Filled all the way and loosely packed? Also, is it possible to "microdose" with this vape?

Moving on to the actual usage, I understand most people pre-heat before hitting, do you usually use the same wattage for the pre-heating and the first hit? Or do you pre-heat at higher wattages then go down for the hit? How do you usually do it? Like 5 seconds preheat at X watts, then wait how long before setting your starting wattage and hitting it? And do you only preheat for your first hit or do you do it for each hit?

About the actual draw technique, I read this is crucial to get the optimal experience out of the vape. I feel I have decent skills at managing and learning new techniques given my experience with all electronic and non devices (dabs, vapes, pipes, bongs, etc..). What do you recommend for this? Just a steady long slow draw? Or starting slower to then ramp up mid-hit? Do you keep the device firing all the time or stop at some point?

Finally, I'm sure this is very subjective but what wattages do you like? It would massively help me to have a rough idea of how wattages can relate to the temperature in a Mighty as I won't be able to track the temperature with my current vape firmware (not moddable). Most of the time I stop vaping at max 200°C (=392°F), but usually a bit earlier, and I start at around 170°C (=340°F).

Thanks all for the help! I can't wait to mess around and abuse this beast and share my experiences here :D

Welcome @thestallion69. Glad to have you on board.

I microdose somewhere between .1 & .13 maybe as high as .15. I pack loose but fill the bowl up fully, then lightly tamp down the entire top.

Don't have a Mighty.

I preheat only the 1st hit for 10 sec. at 32/33 watts & then take 2 flavor hits @ this wattage & then bump up to 33-36w for a hit or two & then a final hit or 2 @ 36w. Altogether, a total of 5 hits. I let the taste & performance of the herb dictate the wattage of each hit between 32 & 36W. I never get hotspotting, never turn my stem, may or may not stir on the last hit determined by taste.

My draw is slow until I feel the vapor on the back of my throat at which point I speed up my draw for the last 3 -5 sec. Really, whatever feels natural to do during the draw.

Thanks for the exhaustive answer!
For me a microdose is <0.1g yet I'm glad to hear that the Splinter Z works well with that amount, it means is usable with less too. Also, .15g for me is basically a full Mighty bowl or a light/casual bong hit, I wonder then what's the upper limit that fits in a Splinter Z while getting full results!

After you pre-heated, how long do you wait before pressing again and inhaling? Later, are further pre-heatings recommended if I wait one or two minutes before hitting it again? I guess it's all about finding that balance to have the optimal temperatures inside when inhaling!

I saw that ZV2 and was tempted. Good pickup!

Splinters perform differently on different mods and there's some variance even among different units of the same type.

The bigger heater on the Z is a bit slower to get going so you can just hit the fire button for five seconds at 40W or really any wattage before you start your session. Be patient and just experiment in wattage for starters. I wasted time imagining I was gonna craft the perfect TC experience right out of the gate and it's not necessary or helpful.

You can just hit it from a cold start if you want. The preheat is a casual thing to avoid having a wispy first hit.

You'll be able to feel the heat and see the vapor in the stem and that'll assist as you learn how to get the results you want. Draw slowly at first like you're monitoring the air temp and when it's producing vapor you can increase your draw. The technique for wattage and TC are different but both are intuitive.

The beauty of the Splinter is the pristine on demand convection: if you're just shooting for rapid extraction and not chasing flavor then you can start with higher temps/wattage. When you want to enjoy flavor first you can start lower and nudge up every few hits.

Folks who want larger bowls put a screen down in the glass joint and use the basket screen as a lid. You have to kick the temp or wattage up in that use case to make up for the increased distance from the heater.

I recommend one of the these when you decide to upgrade your mod:

A dna-c mod is a great idea too but those are hard to find for under a hundred dollars.

I wonder then what's the upper limit that fits in a Splinter Z while getting full results!

If you want more than like .15, then push the basket deeper into the joint & sandwich it with another basket screen.

After you pre-heated, how long do you wait before pressing again and inhaling?

Immediately. Matter-of-fact, if you aren't using cruise, meaning your timing out at 10 or 15 sec., go ahead & repress the fire button as much as twice throughout your draw.

Only 1 preheat necessary unless you let the vape/heater cool. But if left to cool with the bowl not exhausted, I may or may not preheat for 2 - 3 sec. on re-startup.

Thanks for the exhaustive answer!

Actually, not exhaustive at all, as I copied a previous post of mine. :p

Have fun experiencing your new toy. :spliff:

A question (Maybe unusual) for all users of the splinter: when you're not using it, do you cover the chamber or leave it uncovered?

Oh! I never remove it from Wismec …

Do you think it can be ruined?
I mostly keep my Splinters on one mod if that's what you're asking. I switch them around sometimes though. I've read once or twice about someone having the 510 Splinter base coming loose but I haven't had that problem.

My Splinters are always on a mod laying on their side with a bowl packed and ready, same is true for my Milaana v2. It's a sad day when I go to take a draw and some ass left the bowl completely toasted, But then again I have extra baskets and they are usually packed and it's an easy swap. Waiting for someone to make a nice storage container that will hold 3-4 packed screens and keep them that way.

I have 2 mods with a Splinter and a Splinter Z. I leave them both mounted to the mod I always use with them. I usually leave them empty but I always leave them on their side. I tend to leave my VapCaps loaded, but my Splinters not so much. Given how quick they are to load I would rather load the Splinters fresh before use.

Hey folks,

I have a question, I feel like I may have asked it before but I can’t find it!

I am using my Z on a dna 250 Wismec Reuleaux. I notice though that the splinter profile of @HerbieVonVapster performs better than the Z profile? I can’t outwardly determine why this is, the values don’t appear off anywhere.

It’d just be nice to know if I’m an outlier. I am using the most current profiles I believe.

Funny, I went to use my Omni I keep in the glove box in a Dyanstash the other day and didn't get a hit. I tried it again and didn't get a hit again. Then I took the cap off and found it empty. So, _I_ was the ass...

Oops... I'm in the Z thread not the DV thread. I think I'll leave this anyway. It says Splinter right there... ;)

Thanks for the guidelines. I will first try to master the wattage mode, I'm positive that my mod will work very well! Then I will consider a DNAc one :)

I actually was using the Z profile on my V2 since the main one didn't work right (this was before he made one for Chinese splinters). So I say whatever works for you go for it!

Where can I pick baskets for this and some of those rimless baskets I'm in the UK.

Cheers
