We only have 3 more obsidian dishes left in stock. With none on order. A second request has just been sent to @CCA710 ? Our sapphire dishes are due 7-4-19, We have plenty of sic dishes in stock. If anyone knows where to purchase obsidian dishes please let me know. I'll make it worth your while.

Hi Edwyn - is this obsidian that we use the same as natural stone obsidian (that is, volcanic glass, really) or is it artificial.

Does it go by any other name.

On Alibaba there are a ton of suppliers of carved and sheet obsidian but the carved stuff is skulls, pendants and the like.

Kind of baffling...it has to be coming from somewhere, right?

Do you have any further info on the material at all?

Please keep looking at this is the tits in dab surfaces, IMO.

Yes I'm seeing those same suppliers on alibaba. I've not found one yet that will work from a print. I've got 2 separate suppliers for sic and sapphire and neither process obsidian or can offer any suggestions. I'm under the belief it's the same natural stone material that the jewelry and sex toys are made from. I came across some obsidian jewelry in a store and it really looks and feels like the same material. Some one just emailed me and suggested it might be a coating on top of the sic dish. I had not considered that. It's odd that only the inside of the dish is shiny. Where the jewelry and natural stone all seem to be shinny. Thank you for your help @Baron23

Sound familiar? "After several thousand rounds, the shooter simply wipes the carbon from the surface."

Oh, wow....I had never heard of such a thing as an obsidian trigger group. And its a coating?

Maybe the Obsidian dishes are indeed coated SiC...I would suppose one would have to be sacrificed to know for certain (and, given that the trigger group company says its coating is .0005” (wow), maybe not even then.

I had thought that the reason the outside was not shiny was just polishing...but maybe not. I note that pics of natural obsidian are indeed shiny as they break across what looks to me like crystalline fracture lines.

That's a real stumper but maybe it is coating and that's the way to go???

With such a thin coating, I wonder how this is done....vapor accumulation, powder coating type thing, wtf else??

If Josh figured this out, I'm sure you will too.

Me...I'm just an old idiot and am stumped at this point.

Take care, Edwyn and thanks for the reply.

@NewVape710

This is from the CCA site. Doesn’t appear that it is real obsidian.

“We reverse engineered the best properties of SiC and created a proprietary ceramic material that out shines SiC in all the best ways! Welcome to the world: OBSIDIAN!”

I don't believe the composition of Obsidian was ever released. It was always presumably based off Silicon Carbide. But NewVape's sapphire insert is half the price of CCA's, for the highest quality dabbing experience it seems like a no-brainer to go that route over SiC or Obsidian unless thermal shock is a genuine concern.

I don’t have either, but I haven’t been too anxious to get a sapphire dish just because I’ve seen so many posts about them breaking, people selling them and saying they’re not broken or only a little cracked, etc.

It’s a lot more tempting at NewVape’s prices, but I think a lot of people would rather go with “obsidian” for the combination of performance durability even if sapphire performance in a bit better.

Lot of broken sapphire out there.....not for me, thanks.

Obsidian (Liger insert) is, to me, completely taste neutral, fairly rugged, and impervious to crud. What more to ask for?

There's a lot of broken glass out there too but I still use my favorite American water pipe daily!

Hey, no judgement here. I'm just saying I like the sapphire. :sherlock: I view the fragility as a trade-off for its performance and crisp, clean flavor. I'm more of a banger guy when it comes to dabbing so durability may not be as important to me as others.

You're right, the obsidian fits newVapes bulletproof product line perfectly.

Hey, Edwyn;

Used to be a Liger beta tester. The special thing about the Obsidian dishes is the polish. Per Josh, it's done to Aerospace specs and there are not many vendors who can do this. It's not natural Obsidian but some kind of SIC/ceramic blend (if you have one of the number-stamped ones, you'll notice that "SIC" is spelled out in the middle of the "obsidian" logo with the "sid" part. Not sure where sourced.

So maybe you can try to find a super-polisher for regular SIC and start there if you can't get a steady supply from Josh? PS: Instagram is the best place to hit him up.
