Elev8r with 15.8mm coil adjusted to have a snug but moveable fit. Halfway filled with beads. This is the best tasting vaporizer to date this far. Especially dry through a wand. Temps depend on wand or bong. I copied my setup from Labpongs setup. It’s just so amazing I want to share . Dang it appears the image doesn't want to show..

if there is someone in Europe testing or building something like this please pm me. I lack time to build stuff right now but I could need more vapes, exspecially some more with glass airpath.

what size beads did you use? i went to the local shop and grabbed the only size they had and they are just a bit too big.

This looks like an affordable alternative to the Flowerpot. . . So all you need is a glass tube with an 18mm male end, fill it with quartz ballz and insert it into a coil, then use a female 18mm as the bowl?

I can't think how the glass tube can be attached to the coil though.. if it's held in place by friction against the coil, then won't the coil tighten as it cools down, crushing the glass?

The Elev8r is a higher quality vapor producer over the FP's.....because it is all glass....big difference there.

I have never found any reason to add terp balls to the Elev8r heater with torch or coil. I like the 0 resistance drag with it stock, and I feel no reason to change it.

For using a coil on the Elev8r heater, no....you do not get it tight at all....rather loose so it can contract some when heated. Or yes, the coil will get stuck on the heater and possible damage may occur. When at full temp....my coil just barely grabs the heater by the heaters offset in shape...not by grabbing it all the way around. If I twist the heater in the hot coil 90 degrees...the heater falls out.

I always use a sick clip when torching.....when using the coil.....I am super careful and have a protective grabber mitt ready if the heater falls off the coil or bowl when I am opening it up when stirring only.

I was trying to think of how to rig one up using cheap glass parts.... If the heater is an 18mm male-to-male piece with a straight tube in the middle instead of the usual bulge, then it can fit inside a coil...
s-l225.jpg

but how to hold it in place. I guess wrapping steel wire around the coil is a no-no , so then a clip would have to be made, attached to the coil's handle?

UPDATE: Great success!

20200816_142609.jpg

The bowl is a 14mm male to 18mm female piece, with a small screen at the bottom ,where the ground glass part begins. The heater is a 18mm male to 14 mm male (what i had lying around) , with a screen in the middle , and the top half filled with quartz beads... I fired this up with a torch, about the same amount of time as needed for a 25mm banger - basically until the flame hitting the glass becomes orange... and got two full flavour hits.... AWESOME!

Thanks to the pioneers!

Looks like you made yourself a DiY Flam :clap:

Quartz diamond knot enail bangers like these are another cheap n chearful alternative start point for an all glass flowerpot style vape
Ideally, if I were having something made special, the bangers need another layer or 2 to the diamond knot, no mid section, a shorter joint and a clip for the handle ... so I've added some beads to fill the top section, trimmed the male joint back and wrapped some gardening wire round the mid section and bend the tails into a hook to secure the coil.

Not sure you need anything all that speshal tho to be honest as we've seen people like Ryan using a custom XL8R stem and a 16mm coil to do the same. My 16mm coil is permanently tightly fitted to my Elev8R heater so I can't test but I strongly suspect you could do the same with a stem, a bag of beads, 2 gauzes and a 16mm coil .... if you can find a stem that can take the heat, as I remember Ryan saying that was an issue with the standard ones.

Hippie, I was just thinking about the diamond knot bangers... those seem perfect for the job when filled with beads! It is time for the awesome glass makers to step in and make some pieces for the job.. since the beads do not need cleaning (unless you dab on them) they can be fixed in place, so hopefully we can expect all kinds of funky lattices and matrices to be made for the job ( basically a glass showerhead)

Here's a video of the above rig in action:

You can see the experimental subject had to pause at the beginning of the first toke because there was so much milk in the bubbler he thought he was combusting.. but no, that was 100% tasty vapor. I cannot vape such a load so fast, and get this flavour from my e-nano!

You can also hear the subject giggling , at how ridiculously good and ridiculously cheap this is... There is no need for special glass pieces to rig up an awesome all-glass vape!!

The beads retain the heat enough to finish a load in that bowl! and that's with a 14mm top - if it was 18mm it would be even better (more beads)... so there is no need to have the coil fixed onto the glass- once the glass is up to temperature, the coil can be removed and there will be enough heat for a one-person session... I hit this hard all day yesterday and it delivered consistent results. the 1:30 min heat-up time I found was the upper limit, beyond that it's combustion territory... but this of course will depend on bead size and amount of beads and how fast you heat up the thing.

Try taking out the beads, heat it so the blue flame tip hits the glass, and do not point into the heater top.

You should be able to get that heated up in half that heat time you are using!

Using the beads....gives you many draws off the single heating. You also have a huge range of heat your hitting each consecutive draw off that single heating cycle.

Lastly....no offense....but if you clean all that glass out....you will get much much better taste if you desire!

But you made a elev8r concept work well.....vape on!

Just remember that it takes much more time to heat up something with a coil than a torch, expect at least a 5 minute heat up time with that.

Also these glass adapters tend to fail when torched, Ive made a bunch of these sort of vapes.

I've just checked out your work...awesome! Quartz oven with saphires and rubies please

I've just ordered a couple of spare adapters :) The slow heat -up is to try to make the thing last... it looks reasonably thick.
Loving the torch powered glass bead vape! Interestingly I switched to an all-18mm top (ie more beads) but it didn;t make much difference- the load in the bowl gets baked anyway!

Lastly....no offense....but if you clean all that glass out....you will get much much better taste if you desire!

I know people here are obsessed with cleanliness ... but I'm not the type that swabs his banger with a q-tip after every hit, because that's just too much routine man!

Seriously though, the d020 bubbler tastes good well past that point of greasiness... at least for herb. ( I cleaned it today anyway!)

Try taking out the beads

No way dude! Shiny beads is what this is all about :haw:

Update: After a few days of bliss the adapters started to crack as predicted, and one of them is already gone... much sooner than I hoped ! And that's despite me taking my time with the torch.... Next up is the quartz banger Hippie suggested... on its way from Chinaaaa!
I only hope it will a) have enough airflow and b) have a notch inside so a screen can be fitted to hold the beads in...

The other candidate for torch use is the quartz nectar collector tips that have a cone shape and an 18mm fitting... There's enough space in there for a screen and beads.

The bangers I linked to have a lip at the base of the top section that takes a 15mm size gauze with little effort when you get the level of the beads in the top section right.
I actually took them out and refitted them today as I received some more uniform 2.5mm beads to try in there, this week.
The new 2.5mm beads are small enough to completely fill the top section around the diamond knot with no gaps and have increased the heat transfer so it only needs 580 on the controller now (630 before), without adding any noticeable change to the restriction, and spread the heat a little better too so I'd definitely recommend ordering some in while you wait (if you haven't already).

Might you be able to post a photo of the setup? I don't know if I am up for the DIY game, but if someone could build what you are describing and just send it to me, I think I would very much like to buy n try that :D

Nice.... 580-624F are my usual Elev8r without beads. How long are you taking to heat soak and be ready for a first good draw?

I usually just leave it for 5mins or so while I'm getting ready, out of habit from using my other vapes really so I'll say at least 3mins if you're keen to get started.
Not sure what this tells us about the quartz as it usually stays cool enough to touch the banger below the gardening wire I've wrapped around the middle, it warms up as you draw hot air through that section in use but there's very little heat being conducted down below the wire.

Damn. My banger arrived already (!) but the airflow is too restricted and the experience is not as satisfying as with the open top adapters... (which are glass and crack after a few days of use with a torch)

That nub in the middle is actually a little bowl so I wonder if it may be possible to drill through it with a diamond drill bit?

I thought about doing that to open up the airflow, ya know, but haven't yet :)
It's really soft stuff to grind so it's quite friendly to work with but that area takes a lot of heat so you'll need to take extra care to smooth off the edges of any cuts to minimise the risk of it cracking if you are gonna brave it.

I'm getting the drill bits :rockon:I think the safest approach would be a single hole straight down the middle of the bowl. I plan to start with a 0.8mm bit and work it up to 3mm...Or, should I go for the final desired diameter straight away?
I think (second) worse case scenario is the entire bowl breaking off fairly cleanly as it's a lot thinner than the surrounding donut, and that would be OK.

I would work it up to size with the diameter of the beads in mind, at first.
You could drill it out big and fill the bowl with beads too then, if that doesn't work out.

Great minds think alike

This is a long way from when I made my first hash pipe out of tinfoil ! I can't believe it took stoners so long to arrive at this tech...:p

What makes this superior to other vapes is not just the crystal heat source, but that , once you dial it in, you can do a kind of "flash vaporisation" where you hit the herb with short bursts of a homogeneous stream of very hot air (so hot that it would combust if you take a longer drag) as you take short (2-3 sec) tokes, and this unlocks the full flavour of the herb, which is just below the combustion point..but because this is not a metal heater, and there is some distance between herb and heat source, it is easy to avoid combustion, and it just tastes good.
You can sort of chug on the bubbler like a tobacco hookah and get rich vapour with no coughing. With most other vapes you have to take long sustained inhalations to get a hit, and it never tastes as good or is as satisfying. This is only really made possible by the very open airflow that the adapters I'm using provide- I can't wait to mod the quartz banger for this... but a quartz piece specially designed for the job would be awesome.
When using the torch to heat this up , I find that it is best to let the temperature spread throughout the piece for about 30 seconds after turning off the torch, and before starting to inhale. This gives instant vapour with the first toke. The timing again depends on amount of beads.

Update!

I finally got a wireless Dremel and diamond drill bits. The Dremel has a flat back end so it can be stood vertically ona table, and so reasonably precise drilling into small pieces is possible without a vice. I attempted to drill 4 x1mm holes in the bowl of that quartz banger. All was going well until, predictably as the drill went through the 4th hole, the entire bowl broke off fairly cleanly. Not bad for a first attempt at drilling into quartz!

I was able to partly block the hole from the inside with a terp pearl (to stop the beads from falling out) and all is good! The airflow is now perfect!

IMG_20200917_1146419.jpgIMG_20200917_1147048.jpg
Because I'm using a torch, I filled the piece with beads down to the bottom ring, to get heat closer to the herb.

I also bought a basic IR thermometer. Not suprisingly it does not work on colourless/transparent materials but it works on the ground glass part of my glass heater, or on the ruby in the quartz heater shown here. With that I can check the temp before inhaling, to avoid combustion, and I have it dialled down pretty well after a few tests... correct actual temperature reading is not important as long as the thermometer is consistent. With my setup I found around 330degC to be optimal.

Been using these things exclusively since the first experiment and am experiencing herb as never before in my 30 years of use! This is seriously next level!
